First off, I will tell you one thing. Deducted 1 stars (now) was (-2) for : There was a YELP check in offer for $30 for 1hr of paddle boarding and 1hr water park. Will look for the picture. Since, yesterday it has changed to their normal prices. The deducting another 1 star because: 1- There is no formal training. If they think 2 mins of telling you how to row, kneel, and stand than I guess they might as well deduct $10 for that. And just rent out paddle boards lol. 2- I'm a very strong swimmer and found it very hard to maneuver against the wind/current. 3-Things they've failed to mention do not stand if your paddling against the waves. You will flip over. You will go in and basically teach yourself and if you have common sense then you will come out of it learning and teaching yourself how to paddle board. Again you will TEACH yourself how to paddle board. LOL Btw- I did see a manatee up close and that was pretty nice. And yes, I came out an avid self taught pro paddle boarder. Maybe I'm biased because I love manatees, but I thought paddleboarding with Velauno was so much fun. We called ahead to reserve five paddleboards for an hour ($20/person), and were greeted immediately upon arrival. They were very accommodating even though we were a little late. There was even a place to store our wallets and backpacks despite the whole thing being outdoors. After paying with our credit cards (also a plus, since most places in San Juan only take cash), we were given a quick crash course on how to paddleboard as the others in my group had never been before and sent out into the water. The lagoon was pretty calm -- no waves or strong current, so it wasn't too hard to paddle. The best part for me was definitely the manatee that we found swimming the middle of the lagoon. I called this place to make a reservation and they "sure, come at 1 o'clock, see you then" but I had to ask of they need my name for the reservation. Oh... But I really wanted to go now so called back from another phone and asked again and they said "sure, come now"...still no one wanted a name for a reservation. But we went and it was great, once you get there you'll understand. People come and go all the time, you may have to wait ten minutes but no need for a reservation. Just go! They bay is great for paddling, it's calm and we went out on a day with high surf advisories. SUPs are the rage and everyone wants one but get a kayak if you really want to get out and explore. You can cruise all the way to Old San Juan of you like, just know that there is a good current under the bridges you have to fight on the way back. Thats a lot of work of one person on a SUP. read more

We walked here from the caribe hilton because we wanted to paddle board the lagoon and not be stuck in the small enclosed location the hotel had for paddle boarding. For $20 plus tax you get to be in the water for an hour. I felt like we were out for a little longer but they didn't charge us. We got here around 9:30 and they were running late so we watched them setup for the day. Everything about the operation is professional. They were very helpful and if you haven't paddle boarded they will give you a quick tutorial. The current gets choppy by the bridge so avoid it if you want a relaxing day out in the water. If you're lucky you can spot sea life - we didn't. You can also go kayaking or sailing here if you like. read more

It seems they've increased their prices for the 2 hour rate. I didn't see any offers like the ones listed on yelp where couples can get 2 hours for $50. It simply stated the first hour is $20/person and 2 hours is $35/person. This place is located right across from "Playita del Condado" by the way. This was my BF and my first time with SUP and it was an enjoyable experience. They have a van with plastic bags for your belongings/shoes while you're on the lagoon. Then they have someone go over the basics of SUP with you if you're new to the activity. It's a very quick lesson and brief, but the activity is not difficult so it's sufficient. They do offer life vests if you need one, and even though I'm a real poor swimmer I did not take a life vest and never fell in the water. Even if you did, the board you're on is massive and is basically a lifesaver. They also told me the water is about 20ft deep. Some people spot marine life but I didn't see anything! Maybe you'll be lucky and spot a manatee! I didn't bring a watch with me as I was out there, so I don't even know how much time I took, but it appears they're not all that strict about the times. These guys were awesome, we walked down from La Concha, we could have also walked from El Caribe (we stayed 1/2 and 1/2 of our time bt these two hotels). Lee and Carlos were very informative, they were apologetic that we could not paddle-board for 2 hours because of the business that Monday morning around 10 AM. We settled for an hour, they said it would tire us out but honestly if you're in shape (workout/life weights/run/yoga 3x a week) this will be a breeze. I asked for the hardest board, the one that would give me the best workout I could have done it all day, being able to take a break by kneeling and paddling or laying down on the board provides all the rest you'll need. My boyfriend is 6'4, 250 lbs and also really enjoyed his larger, "easier" board. The bay we did it in was spacious and had some current to provide a mini workout! Friendly staff! Very helpful. We called ahead like the website said but they told us to just come and that we didn't need reservations. It was our first time paddleboarding but we decided not to do the class and just go. They suggest 1 hour since it was our first time. $30 for 1 hour. They gave us a quick 5 minute lesson and helped us into the water. We went out and paddled around the lagoon & came back to find we still had 20 minutes left! This business has many aliases, it appears. The reviews for Velauno and VIP Adventures Puerto Rico here on Yelp appear to be the same company. The small space at the beach that they all refer to seems to be the same. Anyway, friendly people, all equipment in good shape, decent prices, and I had a great time. I stayed at Caribe Hilton and walked across the Dos Hermanos bridge to this place near the Condado Hilton and was able to rent a kayak for $20 for 1 hour. I did have my watch on and stayed as close to an hour as possible (a little under), and I'm not sure how they signal you if you are over your time since it's a big lagoon with other people doing the same thing. You do need to ask for advice on everything, and they will give it, but if you don't ask, they assume you know how to kayak, and where, and where not to, etc. (I'm a newbie.) Don't bring any valuables!! I was a little disturbed by what they called "my locker," where I put my backpack in with everyone else's who was kayaking, and it wasn't locked or guarded, and no one paid attention to who was taking things out of it. On the other hand, it's in a secluded area under the mangroves, so there aren't a lot of people who know it's there. (But I had just been to an ATM, and my wallet in my pack was full of cash.) The lagoon is safe and clean, the current varies enough to make it interesting, and I wish I'd done this everyday instead of my last day. Definitely worth the $20. read more

I stay in the Condado area and had seen signs for this group before. I called a few places whose flyers I had and then found Velauno on an internet search. Jamie picked up right away and was very friendly on the phone and suggested I book ahead of time online. I did so and the process was very smooth. Once I got there, I explained that I had not done stand up paddleboarding before and one of the instructors explained what I needed to do. I had a great time. They also have a truck where I could leave all my stuff (clothes, flip flops, beach bag, the works), it was safe and each person gets an individual bag into which their stuff goes. This is my 7th trip to Condado and I can't believe I've never checked them out before. I will definitely be going back to Velauno! read more

My four year old was dying to go kayaking at the Laguna. It was $40 for the both of us which I thought was a little pricey but I guess that's standard. I wish I would've checked in to see if the coupon would've been honored. All in all, it was a memorable experience. The lagoon is open and huge. We didn't get a time limit and were able to paddle til my arms felt like spaghetti. We went out on our own and I really got a hang of how to paddle and maneuver the canoe. If you've been thinking about trying standup paddleboarding in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I highly recommend Velauno Paddleboarding. The staff is very friendly and helpful and paddling on Condado Bay is beautiful. We rented our paddleboards from John. He is very nice and answers any questions you may have. Gino gave a quick SUP lesson when it was time for us first timers to go out, checked on us to make sure we were having fun and took pictures of us before we returned our boards. Condado Bay is beautiful and there's a chance you may see manatees and sea turtles. While we did not see a manatee we did see a sea turtle, which was very cool. After you get done paddling, you are hungry! So we asked John for recommendations about places to get something to eat and drink that were close by. He recommended the chicken pinchos from Diony's Pinchos and the everything lemonade from Mr. Lemonade. His recommendations were spot on and just what a hungry boarder needed! read more

Good place for beginners to learn to stand up paddle board. And they have deals if you are local and want to go regularly. I was reading other reviews now and sure, they don't offer a long lesson, but it's not necessary unless you are a jelly legs. Even so, it's just the sport. You will fall down sometimes. Don't take it personally if you're not an expert on the first try, but despite any winds or currents, I didn't fall once. Some of us are athletes and some aren't! read more

In the spring I saw spotted Eagle rays in the lagoon, this summer we saw doezens of jellyfish! $25/hour + brand new paddleboards. Luis was my friendly helper today! He gave me a quick and simple lesson on paddle boarding. This was my first time and it was Sooo much fun. Really for 20 dollars for an hour (clock doesn't start til you actually paddle away) this was a great highlight of my trip. I hoped to see some manatee or sting ray (both of which they said are friendly and you can touch) but I didn't get the pleasure of seeing either! Still a great way to see the city from the water and with the lagoon being sooooo much more still water you can take in and enjoy the crystal clarity and beautiful green blue sparkling water!!! This company was FANTASTIC!! It was only $25 an hour and well worth more! (They even gave me a little extra time since no one was in line). John helped keep my phone and belongings safe and answered every question I had! Gabriel helped me out in the water and he made me feel so comfortable. What a wonderful person he is!! He even sent me in the direction to find manatee since that was my #1 request. Both John and Gabriel offered to take photos for me with my camera and did a wonderful job with it. Had a great experience except for our reservation not being honored. We had called ahead to reserve two paddle boards. They took our name and said they'd be ready when we got there a half hour later. When we got there, the woman at the check in had no information about our reservation. She even said that the office never tells her about reservations. So we had to wait 45 minutes for the two boards to come available. In retrospect it was fine bc we were able to swim a little and get a bite to eat at the hot dog stand near the beach. But they should not be taking reservations if they don't pass them along. read more
