The property is decorated with twinkling fairy lights, an old truck, and a rustic barn that are good backdrops for a picture or two. The staff was incredibly nice and knows their products really well. They brought our group bottles of all the ciders and took the time to explain each one to us. The honey cider was the group favorite, but I personally preferred the one with beet in it. They told us it was a controversial flavor that people love or hate, and I understand why. It has such a unique, earthy flavor. Outside, there's some fun activities , including ping pong, a fire pit, and Cornhole. It's a great spot to relax with your friends, sip some refreshing local cider, and enjoy the outdoor view.

Situated on the outer edge of the Catskills, it feels like Andes is just being discovered by visitors. To wit, at the cidery, I heard a Brit (conversing in English) with two Slavic speakers, one of whom was responding solely in his native language. Over there, two youngish guys were discussing bodybuilding form, which led to one of them dropping to the gravel to demonstrate his one armed pushups. And that was just the crowd... I sampled two ciders; everything is available on tap, plus guest taps of craft beer. The first (Catskill, I think?) was semi-dry. I usually lean towards drier varietals, but this really hit the spot after a long tour through the Southern Tier. "Wild" is just what the name says: foraged apples, never twice the same flavor profile year to year. Absolutely outstanding, so a bottle came home with me. A local in line ahead of me said their kitchen was slow, so I didn't attempt food. Really nice location, old coal yard or some such, very vibey, and pleasantly situated in a cute little town. The servers were super nice and engaged, which is always a treat.

What a beautiful, CLEAN, friendly, and inviting venue!…read more Aside from incredible cider at more than fair prices (try the classic, the Mule cider, and the Imperial (if you want more bang in your cider)), Nine Pin is absolutely SPOTLESS inside - so impressed with how clean this place is. Also impressive are their Bavarian pretzels with Cider Cheese, the ambient music, the selection of games to play, and their robust calendar of events. The team members working there are super friendly and knowledgeable. One of the highlights of this visit was watching a couple at a nearby table order a cider flight, and it comes as an impressive display of nine tap offerings framed in a nine-pin bowling pin diamond - WOW!!! Though I am not in Albany often, I do have a few friends in the area and rest assured the next time I am in this city, Nine Pin will be where I ask to meet up with all of my friends. I'm excited for another trip here. Well done Nine Pin!

Given my strong opinions on supermarket apples and apple picking, it's no surprise that an…read morealcohol-containing formulation of this fruit gets me talking. Nine Pin serves up excellent cider and impeccable service. Flights are available with four or nine varieties. Signature started things off, signaling that Nine Pin is a purist, or at least traditionalist, rather than a drinkable dessert purveyor. (Availability may vary; Yelpers aren't legally liable for enticing descriptions of beverages that may not be available during your visit). Per the above disclaimer, I feel vaguely guilty about mentioning W.A.R.P., as I may have been there for the final days of this fall offering. which isn't currently listed on the website. This stands for Wild Apples of the Rensselaer Plateau and it lived up to the iconoclastic description. Pear was smooth and subtle. Given Nine Pin's proclivities, Black Cherry may have been the perfect match, sweeter than its peers but not cloying. An encore 4-drink flight meant a tough choice in skipping one of the 9, but the knowledgeable and generous bartender (cidertender? cider king?) gave me a sample of a hops variety (exact name forgotten) that was very appealing. I had feared it would be too close to beer. Belgian, which is Signature fermented with Belgian Abbey Ale Yeast, felt sort of beer-adjacent so it was my least favorite. Ginger Mule was enjoyable, sweet than expected. Imperial was like the movie PCU, great start but lost some appeal by the end. Cranberry was refreshing, one level less sweet than cherry. Since too much positivity is boring, I'll end on this note: why doesn't "the world's greatest city" have a place like this? Wallingford, Salem and Wallkill can enjoy cider flights but NYC? Oh well, at least the brilliant Nine Pin Cider is only a PATH, Amtrak and two buses away.

Before you visit, though, you must…read moreknow that their tasting room is attached to their residence, so when you pull in, it will feel like you're visiting your friends or family and not a cidery. You also need to know that it will be one of the best cider experiences you've ever had due to the uniqueness of the product and location. They specialize in cider that is aged in spirit barrels - everything from Scotch to gin to tequila to rum and everything in between. As a result, most of their ciders are still and have no carbonation. They do, however, have a few carbonated ciders. When I visited, my boyfriend and I each had a flight of four, which came with a tasting glass for $12. It was a great way to try their different offerings. My favorites were the Cranberry Crisp carbonated cider and Cidre de la Porte, which is a carbonated cider aged in Port wine barrels. They also have several cocktail specials that use their ciders. We were greeted by one of the owners, who explained everything they had to offer and brought us out on their spacious deck. There were so many seats outside that overlooked their small apple orchard and property. We were the only ones there at the time, and it was so incredibly peaceful. This cidery is a hidden gem that I hope more people discover - especially with the amazing fall weather coming up!
