The BEST wedding venue we could have ever asked for! We had our wedding April 2024 and was nervous for the weather with the indoor/outdoor venue, but it ended up being perfect. The sun came out just in time for the 4pm cocktail hour and we were able to enjoy being on the grass without it being wet. Our guests kept talking about how amazing the view was - which is exactly why we chose it! This is perfect for if you want a beach wedding, but not directly on the sand. We wanted our guests to be outside for as much as possible to enjoy the La Jolla view, so we had cocktail hour and our buffet table outside. With the help of Personal Touch Dining, we also had bar tables set up outside for guests to still enjoy being outside during the party. Andrew and the rest of the Scripps Seaside Forum team was very easy to work with - always being available over email or text for any random questions I had. read more

We hosted our wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum, and can't recommend it highly enough! The entire space is customizable to bring your own vision to life. We opted to have our ceremony and dinner right on the grass at the Forum, next to the ocean. Our guests were stunned by the beautiful view, incredible sunset, and even some jumping dolphins that joined us during dinner. The food was on point, staff was pleasant. We were dropped off via Uber, but the parking sitch looked sketch. Between it and the fact that a ton of obvious non-wedding goers were both taking photos and filming the wedding from the venue itself is why I gave it a four. (I totally understand a beach wedding will get attention like that... but these people weren't on the beach and were the first people the new mister and missus saw as they walked down the aisle.) My hubby and I got married here on November 20th 2016! This venue is VERY unique I think that is why this place gets booked out pretty much a year in advanced! So, if you are interested in this venue book now! I knew I wanted my wedding back home in beautiful San Diego and I wanted a ocean view which is surprising hard to find in San Diego for a good price. When i first inquired about this it was booked. I checked back a couple months later and found one opening and we booked it before we even saw it in person! Things to note - -Parking is hard to find and expensive! You get less then 20 spots if you do prepay for parking. I shuttled all my guests in from a near by hotel. -You can only use approved catering vendors that they give you -a wedding coordinator is required - your wedding can start anytime after 2PM but has to end by 10PM. You can add a additional hour if you want it to end at 11PM but it is VERY EXPENSIVE. - Giuseppe is the only company that can serve liquor at your wedding. We were able to provide all the alcohol but, Giuseppe still needs to serve it. Just to serve the drinks at our wedding was about $2,000 - you can book a additional room for kids as a play room which we did! We paid for a baby sitter who watched all the kids from 4:00PM - 10PM. - if you visit the venue it look small. ( trust me that was my first thought) but once everything was put together it looked amazing! Overall, we are very happy with our wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum. read more

This venue is breathtaking and very reasonably priced given how gorgeous the views are. The staff at SSF are very attentive to detail and professional. We originally had our wedding date May 2020 and postponed to April 2021 and again postponed to April 2022 due to the covid pandemic. Throughout our postponements the staff were great at accommodating the pandemic as well as our postponed wedding. The day was a beautiful, blue sky, sunny day and all of our guests commented on our lovely the wedding and venue was. So happy we were finally able to have our dream day! Just to note, this venue books out so make sure to save your date ahead of time! Parking can also be problematic so you should buy parking passes for your guests (although you do not need a parking attendant to hand it out, one of the groomsmen/ushers can do so). You also can only choose your vendors from their list. Lastly you can't throw our rose/flower petals, use sparklers, etc. read more

I had my wedding there last week, and this location is as good as it gets if you're looking to host a San Diego beachside wedding steps away from the water without getting your feet in the sand (unless that's what you're looking for). If you're interested in booking this venue there are some action items to consider in order to make the most of your experience: - Sense the Forum provides a preferred vendor list for catering and bar only, you will have a blank canvas to work with to design the wedding of your dreams. Keep in mind that you and your wedding coordinator(s) will be responsible for selecting the vendors you work with and making sure they all provide certificates of liability insurance. - Speaking of wedding coordinators; they are required for this venue. Research and select a team that knows the venue well and can recommend credible vendors so your wedding will run smoothly. - Parking is a drag. We used a valet service which was convenient, but if valet isn't in your budget, I recommend having guests shuttle from a nearby hotel or Uber it there. The Estancia La Jolla was incredible in shuttling me and my guests to and from the venue, but just a head's up: the hotel charges a small parking fee to leave your car there. - They do nickel and dime you a bit. We paid extra to have our wedding end at 11pm instead of 10pm. We paid extra to rent an additional room for the groomsmen. It can take up to 5-6 hours to set up, and if you decide to end at 11, just know that the Forum gives your vendors only an hour to clean out the entire space afterwards otherwise you'll get charged a hefty fee, which isn't feasible; most vendors take more than an hour to clean up a huge space! Make sure you and your coordinators are on top of that. - Currently Google Maps and Waze has a hard time directing people to the venue just by typing in "Scripps Seaside Forum" on your smartphone. On your wedding website or invitations give your guests the exact address otherwise they will get taken to Birch Aquarium or other nearby spots, thus making them late to your wedding. - The weather is out of anyone's control, but if you find that it gets hot have your coordinators or reps from the forum get the AC cranking, and push for it to make it cooler if it's not cool enough. We paid extra to rent the small conference room for the groomsmen and the poor guys were melting inside. When the forum staff were notified they did little to assist. - You will have access to the first and second floor of the space (where Caroline's cafe is located), but I never used the second floor as a recommendation by my coordinator. If you're thinking about creating a large outdoor seating area or bar for the patio on top, ditch it and save your money. Doing this will direct your guests away from cocktail hour should you decide to have one. Whew, that's a lot. If you plan to book it, do it soon: the venue typically has a long wait list! Overall my husband and I were pleased and had an amazing wedding. This venue is beautiful and you will have some phenomenal sunset photos! read more

BEST wedding venue in San Diego! Matt & the entire staff are so incredibly helpful and kind. They accommodate each request and work well with each client to make sure everything goes well. Vendors can access the venue as early as 10am day of - amen! They even allowed us to store some wedding items the night before. The bathrooms & venue are always freshly cleaned and you truly cannot ask for better weather or view. I beg each bride I work with to get married here, they are never disappointed! Beautiful place to sit and have a morning breather on your walking or bicycling route. So peaceful and serene. If you want to have an event here you can plan on reserving the date you want more than a year and a half in advance. In addition to that there is no public parking anywhere so guests have to park far away and hike on over. Vendors are limited to those they have previously determined and have to stagger arrival times so that only one can be parked out front at a time - way too many restrictions in my opinion! read more

Even though it was the winter, this was a gorgeous venue with a gorgeous sunset, and everything was perfect. Didn't even need to really spend money decorating, as the venue was so gorgeous all on it's own. The staff was receptive enough, and their tour was informative. I only wish it was a little cheaper since it was a sunday in winter but they charged us the same price as a summer weekend, and that alumni (we both were UCSD alumni) would have gotten us a discount of some sorts lol. read more

Attended a friend's wedding in this location. Pretty good setup, and easy to find. However, parking is difficult. I got there pretty early so I happened to find street parking, but I don't know where others parked. It's nice that the location overlooks the ocean, and there were surfers and paragliders in the background. However, it was June and San Diego was still cloudy, and it was actually fairly cold on a Friday afternoon. It was a fun wedding though and the food was pretty good. read more

Getting married at Scripps Seaside Forum was a dream! It was of course my first choice in wedding venues as I had been eyeing it for years. Being in the event planning/hospitality industry for over ten years I knew this was a unique venue to San Diego. There are very few venues in San Diego where you can have a private event on the beach with a panoramic view, without the distraction and interference of public beach guests surrounding your event. When it was time to look for a wedding venue, this was the first place I contacted. Friday, June 8th (my birthday) was the only date they had available a year out! When my then fiance saw the venue for the first time, he agreed that yes this was where we needed to have our wedding! I knew how incredible this venue was that I ended up getting married on my birthday, just because of how much I wanted to be at Scripps Seaside Forum! This venue gives you full access to their entire building including the grass area where we had our ceremony. We had our ceremony and reception both at Scripps Forum. Caroline's Cafe closes down for the event, but guests had access to the patio and were able to get a bird's eye view of the beach, going up to the second floor. We took photos on the second floor patio, which turned out amazing! The venue has large modern restrooms for guests and a built in green room/bridal ready room as an added convenience. The venue offers a parking attendant with vouchers to help local guests who drive in and park. The building in general had a very modern feel and open concept layout, which was exactly my style and wedding vision. Guests could flow in and out of the building with ease and still feel a part of the party, even outside on the lawn. With the pipe and drape added that covered the stadium seats of the lecture hall, it immediately transformed the room into a fantastic event space! It was honestly the perfect location to showcase San Diego and our out of town guests were blown away that a location like this existed! The event team, especially Donna was great to work with. Her prompt answers to my questions helped in the planning process and put me at ease! I was lucky to have her! The vendors they offer at the venue are all professional and will do a great job. The vendor list also has a good range in prices so you wont be stuck with a budget you did not want. We got very lucky with the weather that day and took advantage of the gorgeous sunset at the beach just below the venue, steps away. We took sunset pictures that were incredible and looked up as our guests took pictures and watched us in the sand. The view was breathtaking! I would recommend this venue to anyone looking to showcase San Diego and have a waterfront wedding venue! An amazing venue with a lot of flexibility to create the event of your dreams! Had our wedding there this past October and it was completely stunning. Absolutely love the venue - the outside area for cocktails and to watch the sunset was really heavily used - I would really recommend making sure you have belly bars/seating outside - we did three heaters and that was perfect for what turned into a little bit of a chilly evening. The pros - location, I thought the communication was really excellent contrary to other reviews - I never waited more than 24-48 hours for any responses and I generally received most replies the same day. We did a parking attendant for one hour leading up to the ceremony to hand out parking permits which made parking MUCH easier for our guests. The venue was also able to let us lock up decorations, booze, etc the night before which made the day of SO much easier. Another advantage is you can bring your own alcohol (more on this though also in the cons) - we saved SO much money by being able to customize our bar (We did beer, wine, and a signature cocktail only) and being able to purchase from Costco, etc. I would actually say this may have paid for a good portion of the venue fee and also enabled us to have a ceremony that really was more of what we wanted and "us". The Cons - you HAVE to use the Giuseppe's bartender as they have the liquor license. They are not as responsive to communication- to process our down payment took almost a month and a half after we gave them the credit card information. That being said, two weeks before, our event manager called and everything turned out perfectly. The bartender's are very expensive since you have to use them if you want to serve alcohol. If we had known how expensive that was going to be, I think that negated a lot of the savings from BYOB. Also - HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend UCSD Catering - we got SO many compliments on their food, they are located like two blocks away and their facilities are insane (the main facility is like the size of a department store and they have a fleet of vehicles)- they do multiple events at the venue weekly, have a huge amount of wedding's that they work, and they do a lot of really high end events - medical research / university donor events, etc. They were AMAZING to work with - so responsive, really created the custom feel we wanted, their food was amazing, service was five star, and they were much much more reasonable than most of the other caterer's we priced out. Additional info - They only take Visa/Mastercard, you have to book WAY far in advance to secure a date, you have to bring all of your own "stuff" - tables, chairs, linens, etc - it's a blank canvas. This creates some additional work, but really for us created a much more custom feel that we wanted. read more

Tldr: Amazing venue. Communication is very bad. Planning a wedding is hard enough. Don't want to deal with horrible communication. This is an amazing venue! And for the cost, hard to beat if you can get a date! However, I did not get very far in having a wedding here. My fiancé got a hold on a date one year out. The date was on a Sunday on a horrible lunar date (:P) but she still wanted to consider it because the venue was her first choice. We had only a week left to put money down to hold so we scheduled an appointment Saturday morning. We arrived late (10 min) as there were a few twists and turns getting down and I couldn't find parking quickly. My bad. There was no assigned place to park to view the venue and timer were given no contact information other than a time and date. I let my fiancé off so that we could at least not be crazy late. Anyhow, after I found parking and ran over I found out that the person we were meeting for the appointment had left due to an apparent 10 minute rule. We didn't get a call or anything. I understand we were late but I figure for a wedding appointment, we could hope for some understanding as this is probably the least stressful part. We wandered to a few administration buildings to try to get a hold of anyone but failed. Calls to the provided number lead us only to the general seaside voicemail. After about a half hour after our original appt, the person we were trying to meet up with appeared again! She explained that they leave after ten minutes and that she didn't get any information for us so she couldn't contact us. In addition, she told us she was just a volunteer. After some venting we decided not to tour the venue and that the venue wasn't for us. And I paid $4 for 30 min of parking cause we left soon after. This place is BEAUTIFUL! I was here for a wedding was stunned as I stepped out of my Uber because it's right on the ocean. The venue is gorgeous and it's a clearly a great event space. We stepped out and walked over to a concrete area with a bar and welcome area. There were tables with fancy flavored waters, escort cards, etc and then it flowed very nicely onto this large grassy area. The ceremony timed perfectly as the sun was setting and though it did get slightly hot, it was just soo beautiful. The guests went back to the initial welcome area where a cocktail hour was set up with some appetizers and of course the bar again. Afterwards, we went inside for the actual reception where it could easily accommodate 20 tables (ish) seating 8 people at each table. There was also room for a live band and a dance floor and sweetheart table. The restrooms were easy to access attached to the indoor area and well kept, the dessert and coffee area was slightly hidden though around the corner from the reception area. One star off because I think it must be slightly difficult for parking as it appears fairly limited and the food was good not the greatest though their dessert was very impressive. Overall, as a guest I really enjoyed this wedding and the venue was absolutely breathtaking, if you're looking for an oceanfront wedding with a lot of natural beauty and intuitive flow of your party I would highly recommend it! read more

Yeay we're married! Me and my husband had our wedding here and our guests LOVED every element of it. Words cannot describe the venue. it's the perfect combination of modern, classy, beachy and romantic. This venue provides a great ceremony space, several options for cocktail hour and a great space for your reception; all in one site. Coordinator: we had Julie Meola, who is also the coordinator for UCSD catering. She is so sweet and nice. She put me at ease and was there to answer any questions that I had beforehand and was there for the vendors upon arrival. She has done weddings and events for UCSD and for weddings at scripps seaside forum so she is VERY familiar with the space and available options. If you are going with UCSD catering, she is a must. UCSD catering: i'm sure you're thinking "college food???". Yeah they stepped up there game alright. We weren't looking for fancy over the top food, but just good meals done right. We loved that UCSD is focusing on Fresh, local and organic options. THE BRAISED SHORT RIBS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD. When i came back to work, my coworker told me he was still dreaming about the salmon he had. The beets were perfectly juicy and flavorful. My bother in law complimented us on the great food and that he really enjoyed it (food was a big part of their own wedding, so that says a lot). Basically, people were raving about the food! as you probably already know from the reviews, this place gets booked up quickly, so reserve your date ASAP! i started looking last november (before i even got engaged) and was so sad that they didn't have anything this year so started looking at hawaii instead. however, i continued to check back and there was actually a cancellation so i grabbed a date for this summer! i was hesitant to plan my wedding in 6 months, but knew i had to have this venue and so made the time frame work. our venue coordinator at scripps was matthew and he was fantastic. quick to email back and answered all the questions i had. we just got married and this venue was perfect! i was looking for an outdoorsy place with a modern building. most important thing was it had to be on the beach, without being directly on the beach since i didn't want everyone to be in the sand. this place is right above the beach on a nice grassy area and fantastic views. so perfect for me! be aware that you're only renting the space and have to literally rent everything else. tables, linens, chairs, furniture, heaters, easels, silverware, flatware, glasses, etc. you'll end up spending so much money on the drapes for the back to cover the auditorium seats. you are required to have a wedding planner, you have to use one of their 16 caterers from their preferred vendor list (i recommend continental - yolanda was great to work with), all your vendors are required to have insurance, and you are required to have insurance. you have to use giuseppe for the bar since they hold the liquor license. costs definitely do add up so keep that in mind. on the bright side, it's a blank space which allows you to really create anything you want to. i wanted to have more of a rustic and romantic theme and everything turned out beautiful. we ended up renting some lawn games (giant connect 4, giant jenga, and corn hole) and it was a big hit. i would say cons are 1) they don't have a real bridal room, just a small room to the side that you can hang out in or store stuff in 2) parking is a hassle. we paid for a parking attendant to hand out permits to our guests, but a lot of our guests had a problem finding parking spots. even when doing our rehearsal the day before, it was a challenge for our family to find parking and we wasted a lot of time, even though we had prepaid for permits. on the day of your wedding however, you can reserve 16 all day spots for your family members and vendors which really helped. to address the parking issue, we just emailed all our guests a few days before to give them a heads up to allow for extra time for parking and everyone made it on time. i would do it all over again and we had the best day ever getting married here! our guests were so happy and it was such a gorgeous view, especially during the sunset. read more

What a ridiculously beautiful venue! Located right on the beach and below Caroline's restaurant, this venue is prefect for the wedding spot, beachside lecture hall, or private event. I recently attended an event here put on by my volunteer spot and man was I blown away. Parking is a little hard to find, but if you come early, you can find a nice spot in the neighborhood and walk to the forum. The spot has got a great grassy area framed beautifully by palm trees where you can look out at the beach, waves and surfers as well as the Scripps Pier. This picturesque location is a must if you are planning the prefect beach wedding for your loved one. read more

I think most people know how amazing the Scripps Seaside Forum is for a wedding. However, what most people don't know is how amazing UCSD catering is!!! When you decide to have your wedding at Scripps Forum they give you a list of vendors that you can choose from for catering and alcohol. Unfortunately, there is only one option to go through for bar service, which is Guiseppe (they did a fine job, but were very pricey!). The catering list has about 15 vendors to choose from, and UCSD is at the very bottom because it is in alphabetic order. We didn't even get down the list with quotes. It was by chance that we ended up having a tasting at UCSD Catering (since they don't have many Yelp reviews). UCSD Catering was so fantastic, all of my guests said it was the best wedding food they had ever had!!! Please please please have a tasting with UCSD Catering if you are planning your wedding at Scripps Forum, Julie Meola, specifically was amazing to work with! UCSD Catering sits you right inside the kitchen during the tasting, it was so fun! We loved this since all the other companies sit you in a room by yourself and you see the chef very rarely if at all. read more

My company had a party here and I had a phenomenal time ! The venue is steps from the beach and has huge windows to showcase the gorgeous La Jolla coast. The space itself isn't a massive ballroom but can fit a comfortable number of people for a reception, conference, etc, while there is enough room outside to set up tents and house even more people (popular much?). I think between the tents & the actual forum itself we had around ~200 people. There is a small lot and street parking is ample, but be wary of surfers that will probably overrun the street-spots during peak daylight hours. Anyways, if I can ever trick anyone into proposing to me & money just flows freely from 'my' (aka: 'his') pockets, THIS is where I would want to get married. The venue itself is simple, elegant, understated but BAM WOW LOOK AT THE OCEAN TO YOUR LEFT! You can enjoy the view without melting in the sun or having makeup smear in the rain, all while remaining safely enclosed in a high beamed golden wooden shelter. Are you impressed because I sure as hell am. Even if everything else at the event sucked, people would still leave thinking 'wow, that was amazing'. However, it's quite pricey and tends to book up months in advance so plan accordingly ! Side note: If the owner of the venue (Scripps family? SIO? UCSD? They were able to move the ceremony inside and it was still a stunning venue. The big glass windows looking out over the ocean - beautiful. WOW! This place is as good as it gets... I had the pleasure of DJ'ing a wedding here last weekend and I truly was amazed! If you want to have a wedding on the beach then this is your place. It sits up on the edge of a small cliff that over looks the beautiful shores of La Jolla. The fresh sea blown air, the breeze from the ocean, the sun setting over the water and the amazing beauty of La Jolla's view of the Pacific makes for a very romantic setting and perfect place to have a wedding. When we started looking for a wedding venue, we made a wish list: - near the beach - ceremony and reception in the same location - lots of parking - central San Diego Scripps Seaside Forum had everything we wanted, and an excellent staff too! Matt Anderson was exceptionally helpful and accommodated all of our requests when he could. Our guests loved the venue and we heard constantly about how beautiful it was - just a fantastic venue for a wedding. It's very important to note that catering and bar are totally separate from SSF, so keep that in mind as you read other reviews. read more

I love love love the actual venue, and my wedding here was perfect. But it is extremely pricey -- for the venue, for the parking (over $200 which I didn't know until after the wedding), for the extra hour, for the liability insurance I was forced to personally take out. And the people I initially worked with weren't super friendly or responsive. In the end everything worked out great, and any interactions I had with Kim the manager were also awesome. But I think the pricing needs to be reconsidered, and their service could use some work. read more

Forever a perfect memory. Who knew this auditorium was going to be the most amazing wedding venue of the century. Said to tell everyone reading this.. but I'm pretty sure the are booked for the next 2 years haha. We even booked our wedding on a Sunday because we were so in love with this venue space!! Nothing was going to stop us.. and the weather (Thank God) was 100% perfection. Everything was a perfect memory. I've never been to a venue space where all the guests just continued to say "OoOooo's & Ahhh's". It exceeded our expectations that an empty space can look so amazing. And the view was the main picture where very few decorations needed to be involved. I am proud that this was our wedding venue. And Bibiana was the most helpful!! Note: Beware of the parking police though.. they are on there 24-7. But don't worry too much, unless you follow Scripps Seasides directions you will be fine :) read more

Came here for a wedding. There was reserved parking for the wedding which was a huge help. For this particular wedding, they had the seats setup outside facing the ocean, cocktail hour was all outside on one of their patios. The photographers were able to gain access to the upstairs location to take pictures of the entire wedding. The wedding itself was inside and outdoors, it was an open air type venue utilizing both spaces. Overall the food was above average and the wedding was a lot of fun at this great location! read more

Beautiful venue and well priced. Went to a wedding here a few years ago when it first opened and wanted to have my wedding here when the time came around. Didn't work out and I think for the better ultimately BUT I still think it's a great space. They are very quick to respond to emails when looking to book the venue, not sure if that continues once you've booked but hopefully so. Also, you bring in everything yourself - catering, bar, decor, furniture, etc - which can be hard for a bride but can also allow you to make your exact vision come to life. Only downside is that they book up so quickly you seriously need to hold dates 1.5 to 2 years in advance. read more

My husband and I had our wedding here on 4/11/2015. It was perfect in everyway. We saw the venue about 2 years before our wedding and knew it was the one. We did not even look at other venues. In the months leading up to the wedding, the Forum staff were super accommodating and even helped my future mother in law step up a surprise video presentation for us at the wedding that left not a dry eye in the house. We had many guests come from out of town and they were amazed at our venue. The sunset was incredible. The views were amazing. It was like something out of a dream. Picking Scripps was one of our best decisions!
