One big thing I did notice this year was that they dropped the cell size of the vegetable saplings from 4 to 3 but the price stayed the same $1.99. A lot of places are still charging the same price for a 4 cell so keep that in mind. The plants looked really healthy this year so far. I love their Salad Bowls. I always pick up 2 or 3. It's great having access to fresh lettuce everyday. I also came looking for a couple Lemon Cypress trees. Sadly they don't carry them so that was a bit of a disappointment. We did leave with some herbs and vegetable plants though. TIP: Get here early in the season... The plants that they have in the first week or two of opening are a great deal for their size, a large 4" tomato plant will cost you less than $3.

Overall, it was an excellent event and Douglas clearly knows what he is talking about from his 40+ years of experience! The inside of the building has items from various garden related vendors (except for one - I will get to that one in a minute): fairy garden items, bird houses, yard decorations, etc. They also have food items from several Amish bakeries and oh my, the hand pies are excellent! Thankfully for my waistline I only had a bite of my husband's apple hand pie after we left or I would have gone back in and one of every flavor. Where Salem Gardens stands out is their dedication to plants that are unique. Yes, you will find marigolds (standard for all gardens for pest control) but they have an amazing assortment of other plants that are truly different. They built it by hand, and crafted it to be an incredible community space. They host fun community events like glass cutting and fairy basket making classes. The prices are incredibly reasonable. They had wagons but when it is a busy time, you might have to wait for one. But I now live in an apartment that limits me to 2 pots or planters on the patio and 3 smaller pots by front door. We actually stopped because there was a fruit/veggie stall in front of it and when we pulled into the parking lot, we saw all of the beautiful plants, succulents, planters, etc! We were greeted by a very helpful young man who told us all the succulents were half off: SOLD! (according to my receipt, that young man was Shelton) We ended up with 3 of them.. including a beautiful hanging birdcage filled with succulents, all total $41!
