I recently went to CWD late on a Saturday arvo to satisfy a craving for carbs. I'll admit, my original plan was to head to Best Ugly for a bagel, but they were closed, so I finally made it around the corner to Scratch.
I had actually been meaning to go to Scratch for ages - ever since I read raves reviews about their thick crusted, gourmet pies when they first opened - but their location around the corner, next to Brothers, had kept them out of sight and out of mind.
When I went, the cabinet was looking a little depleted but it was just before closing time so if it was choccas, it would of been concerned. Although there wasn't a wide range of options I spotted a lonesome pork belly and kimchi roll. I'll admit, it didn't look overly appetizing but it sounded delish.
And it was, I reckon I inhaled it in 2mins flat. It was ridicky good. Like, top 5 rolls I have ever eaten, good. The pork was tender and moist and the kimchi was more of a crunchy spicy slaw, which went perfectly with the pork and lashings of mayo. All this was encompassed in soft bap - seriously, finger-licking good.
Will be back. ASAP. read more
