I volunteered here with some coworkers on a friday afternoon, we sorted through donated materials and helped organize. The place is fun to dig through. read more

Came for Teacher Giveaway. Less stuff available than I expected. Used to come when I was teaching in SF. But I was teaching science then and always got ideas just walking up and down the aisles. Cannot come looking for specific things. Have to come with open mind and let creativity and imagination flow. Re-use and re-purpose. read more

Unbelievable. This place is THE ONLY place you need to go to get your scraps for whatever project (especially helpful during Halloween costume creation). Even the trek to the place is magical! Go there NOW read more

My friends and I found out about this place at Maker Faire, and decided to pay it a visit the other day. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed about having access to a scrap heap so I could obtain random art materials... Now I know where to find one. This is, hands down, the most bizarre and random collection of items I have ever seen in my life. I'm not sure where it all comes from, but it makes me deliriously happy to have it all in one place. Not only that, but the "prices" (if you can call them that... They seem to be entirely arbitrary) are so cheap they make the Discount Fabric place in the Mission look expensive. I walked away with three or four big rolls of fabric, a few little rolls, a handful of buttons, some glass vials and a couple of tiny red velvet pillowcases for $5. Needless to say, I am a very happy Kat. read more

So much fun to come in here and go on a hunt! Yes, you must come with an open mind because the inventory is constantly changing depending on what is donated in. Nevertheless, I guarantee you'll find something you like. read more

Love SCRAP. Whenever I am looking for supplies for my middle school classroom, I go here first. Today, I was looking for colored copy paper for my interactive notebooks. I found most of a ream of light pink paper. Perfect! I've also been able to find easel pads for anchor charts, sentence strips, and raffle tickets to use as bathroom passes. In the free area, I've picked up boxes of envelopes that my students always need for something. I also find a lot of things that I don't really need but need to come home with me. Luckily, the prices allow me to indulge my impulse buys. Great place to visit. read more

Old school heaven. There're a lot of interesting "scrap" from 35mm slides to hair dresser's dummy. Also it's a great place to find big firm white paper for a very good price. read more

If I had to use one word to describe SCRAP, it would be serendipitous. Great place to pull together affordable pieces for art projects. Personally I use SCRAP for themed party decorations / costumes. There's always something interesting you won't expect to find! Nice jewelry too. read more

Where else would you be able to treasure hunt and end up paying under $10 for actual treasures! Not only I love roaming back and forth in this warehouse to find little knick nats for arts and craft, but I completely support their concept to recycle and reuse what other considers as trash. Honestly, sometimes you find things in there that makes you think why people wanted to get rid of it in the first place. Oh wells, boohoo for them, but SCORE for me! read more

I love this place. Madly. It has so much cool stuff! My brain melts slightly when I come here: too many ideas flood through my brain. Mercy! read more

A serious treasure trove of awesome randomness. It's the first place I go when I'm in the mood for crafting or just need to get inspired. The trays of old photos and weird prints can not be missed. There is always something new to discover...so go often and don't expect to find the same stuff every time. Oh, and the have old National Geographic mags for 25 cents each! This place is too good not to share. read more

Most excellent place for unexpected treasures. If you are an art teacher, artist creative recycler or just plain curious check this place out. They have classes on how to reuse materials and they are helpful and friendly. Have a project and don't want to over spend on supplies go here first it could change the entire way you thought you were going to construct it. Love them for helping to make our world greener. read more

i don't know what i would do without this store at my fingertips! i get a good majority of my supplies for art pieces here and this is ALWAYS the first place i go to when i am in need of something! they have all and any of your needs covered. and better yet, you can feel great about not creating more demand for things, everything is second, third or fifth hand. it is also the first place i go to when i am spring cleaning, as i really appreciate all the other folks who have taken their items here to be turned into found treasures for the rest of us. this place is the BEST and i love, lovE, LOVE it! read more

SCRAP is absolutely the best place to find things to use for projects - there are bins of "free stuff" in the very front. A must visit for any artist. read more

Im a student at CCSF and I love coming here for ideas and project supplies for a very affordable price.BUUUUT there are signs outside the front entrance stating dogs are welcome on leash. GREAT I THOUGHT..... Little did I know I would be verbally attacted by the old woman with short grey hair who workes behind the cash register(who by the way was in the middle of a transaction with customers and had at least 5 more people waiting in line). She stopped everything she was doing to tell me to never bring my dog in here again, in front of everyone which was embarrassing and upsetting. I told her that my dog was a support animal prescribed by Dr. And the signs say dogs welcome on leash. She replied the sign doesnt say anything about support animals! (That makes no sense lady). I ignored her and went in anyway...someone please talk to this lady. I will be sending.email to.director also. read more

Whenever I need random or hard to find items for a project, or whenever I just feel like I need project or artsy stuff

I wound up here many year ago on a field trip with my son and I've been hooked ever since. I'm one of those that always has an unfinished craft project & this is the place to get your craft fix. I guarantee you can find something you could use there. read more

As an artist I have been going to SCRAP for years. It is a great resource for cheap items to use for most creative projects. This is the ideal place to shop on a low budget, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I tend to spend hours here shopping, it's hard to leave! read more

Went for the first time today. So many things! I found what I needed for my Halloween costume easily and the prices are so reasonable.

HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH. i love this place so much. they always have an interesting selection of things which constantly inspires me to create. super nice clerks and great stuff. :) read more

looking for something random to inspire your creativity? head to SCRAP and find it. whatever 'it' is, it's probably sitting in a corner waiting for you there... After a few trips you will get used to what they normally have and can go in looking for specific stuff, but until then- wait for the inspiration to hit you while shopping- prices are wonderful and there's a cute cat mascot as well :-) read more

So I went here for the first time 2 weeks ago. After reading some of the other reviews, I was prepared to find it unorganized, dirty, and with piles of crap everywhere ready to topple over and kill you. Couldn't be further from the truth. SCRAP is quite organized, albeit somewhat dusty and dirty. I had a field day here because I collect vintage sewing patterns, and they had A TON. I bought 20 patterns and other miscellaneous crap for $5.00!! Several of them were "Vogue Designer" - Jean Patou, YSL, and Christian Dior. If you sew, definitely stop by this place. They have all sorts of notions and fabrics. I didn't really waste time with the fabrics, because I was so distracted by the patterns. Plus, a lot of them are DATED. If you are looking to reupholster something, and need a neutral beige fab, go here, they had rolls and rolls of beige-y fabrics. A list of the other items at SCRAP that day: buckets full of those flat glass marbles, apothecary bottles (no lids that I could see), silk flowers galore, Xmas crap (they had many many rolls of awesome wrapping paper -- not the cheapo Walgreens kind -- the good stuff), upholstery fabrics, burlap, PAPER, all kinds of paper, beads, yarn, frames, old family photos, weird office crap from businesses long gone, assorted metal doo-dads, foam-core, etc, etc, etc. Be warned -- people are not lying or exaggerating about the mean lady at the front counter. I was one of the first people in there that day, and the first thing I heard was her yelling at another customer. I thought, "oh shit, I'm going to find all this great crap, and she's going to charge me twice as much". But NO, if you time it right, you can be lucky to get one of the young hipsters to ring you up.... hence my brimming bag for 5 dollah. Check this place out. read more

Great collection of random items - everything from mannequin body parts to medical drawing posters to test tubes. Definitely a good place to go for art projects... Also cheap greeting cards, school supplies and general used craft supplies.... read more

I go to SCRAP at least once a month to buy creepy photos, charming cards, reams of paper, fabric, buttons, stickers, and other random stuff piled on the shelves. It's so cheap, surprisingly organized, and there are cats. The staff has always been friendly to me (didn't give me grief about using their bathroom) and even if they were mean---even if they punched me every so often---I'd still go to SCRAP for the randomness and cheapness. Plus it has an area with free stuff! read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER donate to this place. I recently went out of my way to drop off a donation of jewelry, felt, postcards, rhinestones, etc. I was met by an old woman that was the most unpleasant and ungrateful person I have ever encountered working at a non-profit establishment. I was so put off by her attitude and rude words that I actually took back my donation and left. I will never ever return and I will do my best to spread the word that this place truly sucks. I'm still in shock over the experience. read more

Like most other customers I found myself loading up on stuff with cool potential. I did resist the loose china doll arms, and regretted it because they would have made such cool hooks hanging on my walls. Then I had the awakening: You don't have to drag it all home -- This can be your place to store the stuff! I gathered up fabrics and buttons and pencils and pens and wrapping paper that I hadn't used and brought them all to SCRAP. Now if I need such things I go get them. No more hoarding! And, yes! They had a nice cloth bag with a tie when I'd been meaning to make a bag for my friend whose Scrabble set still had the nasty gray plastic sack for picking the tiles out of. Add space to your domicile by taking all those unused supplies to scrap - before the paint dries out in the tubes, when you admit that the huge bottle of white glue you bought because the price was so good is just taking up space. Then drop by now and then and pick up what you need right then. The prices are right to use the place this way. read more

What happened, my friends? I feel betrayed! wouldn't be so upset except - this place used to be so Great. You are overcharging by a huge amount now for JUNK.... that you have been GIVEN. Artists, crafty people, teachers and children are your clientele ( not the fattest wallets in town) and I expect their numbers are dwindling at the repeated rude shock at what once was a friendly, and reasonable reality at the cash register. I hate to say it, but I won't come again, and neither will a number of friends, former diehard supporters. Whopping Pity. read more

This place is amazing fun!!!!!! If you are a digger, you've come to the right place!!!!!!!

The people here are friendly and helpful. It's great to recycle and reuse!

I have been shopping here for about a year, but I will no longer be shopping here nor will I make donations to this store. It is a much needed store, We waste so much in this country and make so much trash, but the founder of this store is a very odious and poorly behaved human. Her name is Anne Marie Theilen, she is the little old woman with a very sour look on her face that I do believe permanent. I have experienced her nasty disposition in the past but I put my feelings aside because I believe in reusing and shopping at second hand stores for almost everything that I use. But after my last visit on Friday August 9, 2013 I will not be back. here's the story: I came in to the scrap on Friday August 9th at around 4:00 to pick out some zippers and of course see what else might be there. I picked up 5 zippers and 3 bottles elmers glue all. 2 bottles of glue were 7oz and each bottle was less than half full, the 3rd bottle was 4oz and it too was not full. Anne Marie was at the front counter and when she saw what I had she quoted a price of $7. I was taken back by the quote because I had only come in with $5 cash. I asked her to break down the cost, I thought maybe the cost of the zippers had gone up, the last time I was in the store the zippers were 10 cents each and I thought the price was higher now. She told me the price for the zippers was 10 cents each. I guess she wanted to charge $6.50 for the elmers glue. I needed the glue but I had to leave it at the counter because I didn't expect for it to be that much. As I walked away I heard her say "these people are always trying to get something for nothing" , I was really offended, because that's not the type of person I am, and I was a little embarrassed that I had to put something back, I make a decent living its not that I don't have money, I had only brought in a little cash. I have made many quality donations to scrap because I know the items that I don't need will find the right home. And every time I shop there always put my extra change in for cat food and supplies I have a pet I know how much that can add up. I say all of this not to brag but to really show that I have no issues with giving money when I know its an amazing cause. But $6.50 for that used glue? and I don't know if it is glue, because everything in there is used you have no idea what some one else put in those bottles. In the craft store Elmers is $1.99-4.00 for a full bottle, a gallon is $12 at Lowe's just down the street. and every decent person knows that the terms "those people" or "these people" can be fighting words, if you know what I mean. she was given the Jefferson award in 2011, I have to wonder if they read any of the reviews on YELP or asked around about the nature of character. If this behavior is what Scrap is founded on then it needs to fail. the bottom line is the following: If you do good in the world it is a beautiful thing, but it is all washed away when you don't do it with gusto. Could you imagine Ghandi, Caesar Chaves, or Dr. King doing all they did then burning down an orphanage? read more

That old lady at the counter was soooo rude. She grabbed the merchandise back when we asked about the price and was disrespectful. The stuff there is awesome but the service was so bad I am never going back. read more

I usually love going to SCRAP, you can find all sorts of unique and amazing thing for art projects etc, they always have an incredible selection of materials. But their customer service is probably some of the worst I've experienced. After getting verbally assaulted after entering the door to "sign in" the staff gives off the vibe that they definitely do not want to talk to you. I went in today and went to buy a stack of items (whose prices were clearly labeled), and when I went to check out they wanted to charge me 4x the amount for each item! I was going to give in and pay with a card but I couldn't even do that. Would love to go back once the staff is a little friendlier. read more

I went to Scrap for the first time in months today. Recent experiences there (not with the founder) as well as the higher prices had discouraged me from going. I put back everything I picked up, for example a bag with 4 small balls of wool yarn for $12.00? Remember folks this is old yarn, not something you could buy in a store today. Finally, I found some cotton yarn and came to the counter expecting to leave it behind, like my last three experiences, and to my surprise, the lady at the counter said Hi! She then priced the yarn pretty reasonably. I was encouraged and will return. Keep improving, Scrap. Remember your customer base supports you and wants to support your cause. read more

SCRAP has gone downhill. The fabric selection is practically non-existent now, and has been for a year or more. The warehouse is messy, prices are way way up, the clerks grumpy. I'm not sure what's happened here, but one of my favorite places to shop has gone way downhill. And they play such grating "music" I want to leave as quickly as possible. I understand it's being run by a failed medical student - perhaps that explains the depressing vibe. So so sad. read more

tucked away in bayview and hunters point sits scrap. there is stuff outside for free but their condition could be described as well loved. even inside i feel like some of the things are very well loved and would rather get them for free but its nice that i dont have to contact a boatload of people on craigslist to find a couple of things. its convenient. purell your hands afterwards read more

Folks. I'd try and call first if you plan to donate. Even though the website says they take donations on Sat. 10 am -4 pm I drove 40 miles to donate only to see their sign that said, "No donations today". Really?! How about mentioning that on your website or ask folks to call first so they don't have to drive far for nothing. The staff blamed their "boss". That didn't help me any. read more
