We had an iron railing made to order 45 years ago. It was fabricated to match an existing hand rail in the front walkway. It matched EXACT and it's still out front after all these years! Reception S must be really sore losing a good job. Too bad. read more

They came out to assess our damaged fence and then when I got the money from my insurance they told me they can build it but won't install it. I had been going back and forth with them and the insurance company for almost a year. They tell me after all this time that they won't install it. STAY AWAY! read more

If you need concrete, precast products or custom railings, do yourself a favor. Go ANYWHERE else. (I personally recommend Masters Concrete and Railing in Olyphant. They do everything this company does, only without the complications). And I say this in the nicest possible way, because I worked as the front-desk person for the last 3 years. When I started, I was so excited because they are literally an ICON in the Scranton area and they are THE go-to for custom railings anywhere in the Northeast. The original owner who hired me was a great person who really strived to give great customer service. The next generation, which officially took over starting last year, NOT so much. Towards the end, the majority of my shifts were filled with complaints from angry customers, because administrative cutbacks at the financial level have left the company EXTREMELY short staffed, including ONE in-field salesman for the 16 counties that they service. Which means anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks just for a callback on an estimate for a railing or commercial step unit. If you complain about the wait, administration will tell you to go somewhere else. Because the rail shop currently has THREE people working in it, wait times for railing orders vary with the complexity of the product requested. It is NOT at all unusual for wait times on finished products to be 3 months or longer(I took many calls from frustrated customers who waited upwards of 6 months). The new owner has also instituted a mandatory minimum of $1500 for handrails. This means, if your elderly mom/dad/family member needs a handrail and the estimate is $800-YOU WILL BE CHARGED $1500 and wait approximately 90 days. Your installation, particularly of preformed concrete steps, WILL BE RESCHEDULED MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT NOTICE and be prepared to have to deal with attitude from installers who are over-worked, under-paid and tired of the whole situation at home base. Also, be prepared to stay ON SITE during ANY installation if you hope to avoid property damage. Seriously, go to the BBB website for the company. There are MULTIPLE lawsuits at the moment (for property damage and failure to fulfill contracts) against this company, the most notable being a woman who ordered steps, waited 6 months for them(she was told 6 weeks), and on the day of installation the installers tried to PULL the old steps off the front of the house WITHOUT CUTTING THE FOUNDATION BOLTS that she kept telling them where present("We do this all day lady. They are not bolted!"). Finally she had to go down to the basement and cut them herself because no-one would listen and they damaged the front of her home trying to just PULL them out. They replaced the damaged steps(they damaged the new ones trying to hurry), but refused to repair the damage to the front of her house, so she had to sue. In addition to issues like property damage, poor concrete quality, being passed around like a ping-pong ball when you call for updated information on an order, awful customer service and total disregard for any warranty given in your contract, you can also expect to be told on the phone that precast items you need are in stock... only to find (when you arrive to pick them up, usually AFTER paying for them in advance) that they are actually NOT(because they really have NO idea what they have or do not have at ANY given time-particularly applies to precast piers) and if they had them when you called, they probably will be given away to the first person who goes in back to be loaded, regardless of existing orders. In-company theft is RAMPANT, and prices are subject to change in accordance to the mood of the administrators. I was the one who kept track of all private customer orders(not municipal or corporate) for the last 3 years, and I was constantly appalled at the WILLFUL lack of communication between departments and the blame game/passing the buck when eventually something goes awry due to that same lack of communication. The current owner has NO people skills and eventually winds up just losing his temper over such complications and yelling at people(BOTH customers and employees) and taking off to work at his own existing excavation or real estate business sites, leaving the complaints in the hands of a short staffed office crew who literally DOES NOT CARE about you OR your order. I really tried to be the best customer service face I could for this company and to smooth over as many of the complaints as I could, but eventually it became overwhelming and it is a company I was no longer proud to work for. As a former employee, I URGE you to do as much research as possible before ordering from here and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING if you do order. Best of luck! read more

I purchased 10 precast concrete piers from them two weeks ago. Very nice to deal with, and delivery was fine. My excavator bumped a pier and it snapped off the base like a cookie. NO Rebar in it at all like the spec sheet shows. I called and explained the situation and they said they use mesh in the concrete. I was hoping for a refund for the broken one at least but nothing. Thank god my excavator has another pier from a competitor to replace it. I have photos of it. No mesh, no rebar. I would look elsewhere. read more

This past weekend decided to pave garage due to good weather Scranton Craftsman was not my choice but there was a mixup in communication so they showed up, the driver poured had concrete that could barely come out of the shoot, we asked the driver to turn the barrel to mix it and if water can be added, his response was I don't know anything about this stuff I just drive the truck, this driver was extremely rude and disrespectful. We asked him to stop pouring so we could get the hard concrete spread he got back in his truck and poured a large hill of hard concrete, got in his truck did nit tell us anything drove off taking our garage door and causing major structural damage to the garage and breaking off the door then he just left called the office numerous times got a secretary who stated we have to call someone named Gene on Monday. If there was an option to put a -next to the star rating I would. I did not want this company because they were pushy and was not clear on the pricing I would never recommend this place to anyone ever. read more

Had 2 wrought iron pieces made by Scranton Craftsmen and they were perfect, which is saying a lot because one piece was circular for a spiral staircase and it fit the space like a glove. Couldn't have asked for more and their price was reasonable. read more
