I m writing this review as a special THANK to the Scout Property Management team, especially Julie Spangler, the Property Manager. I had the leasing service with them for my investment property in Murrieta, 92563. Usually Management Companies would provide less-than-averaged quality service in this type of orders because the profit is slim. However, Julie and her team outperformed my expectations and definitely earn the future businesses with me. Julie shows patience and loves sharing her expertises in Property Management even before she nails the business with us. In tenant selection process, Julie reviewed, led tours, and researched for background info of multiple applications. Before handed the top qualifiers for us to review, Julie researched into every corner of the applicant's background to minimize the risk of having bad apples. Quickly within 2 weeks, we signed a rental agreement with an application with averaged credit scores of over 750 and sufficient deposit. We are happy about the experience with Scout Property Management and want to recommend them to you. read more

Scout did little to help me in my home search. In fact, when I finally did get a person to contact me, I was told one thing and the 'system' led me another. You have cost me money. I went through many 'pre-qualify' exercises, where I met the criteria asked and then, at the end was told that I could use the auto process to book a tour. And after repeated requests I could never get a response on what it would take to move forward. Properties that I did get to the apply state, had nobody to talk to about issues with the forms. So they will take $75 and then not tell why not approved. One Scout property wanted an application fee of $50 and then $175 to sign a lease. No thank you! Fortunately, there are other property managers who have integrity and actually talk to potential clients. And that is where I found my new home. Scout, I hope you get it... finally. read more

I honestly can't believe this company is even in business. Where do I even start. The lady that answers the phone is clearly not enjoying her job as "realtor receptionist." She's condescending, arrogant, dismissive and obnoxious. You can't get ANY response in any questions you have about a listing, you just get "it's hard to say." Well maybe you should look into it, you know .. Since owners are PAYING you to manage their home. Good grief, it's no wonder some of these homes are sitting on the market for a month +. Can't communicate with them, can't get a response via email after you see a listing. They want you to BLINDLY apply and waste $$$ and have your credit pulled when 5 other people may have already applied. They do not seem to work in the best interest of the property owner. The staff came across as rude, arrogant, and unresponsive. They allowed unreasonable requests from tenants (or perhaps were simply looking for ways to bill more) and consistently made the owner feel like the problem. That was not the case--the owner has years of experience managing rentals and have always been fair, kind, and quick to address any issues. Their phone number to talk to someone about viewing homes to rent doesn't work. It goes to a busy line. When we scheduled a viewing, there was 3 other people to view the same home and no one could get inside. This is very unprofessional. Please, my fellow yelpers, avoid this company at all costs.!!! I was one of the lucky ones to not do business with them. Extremely rude, unresponsive, and very very arrogant. As everyone knows even when you buy a home, they go off of your gross monthly income, right? Every other rental place and property management company does the same. Not this one. These morons go off your net income. Which is a very very stupid thing to do. So they actually think that there are all kinds of people in Temecula walking around with $10-$12,000 a month in their pocket looking for a home to rent. I sent an email, interested in a certain property, four days later I finally get a response. Instead of picking up the phone and having a five minute conversation. This email correspondence lasted seven days. I even had to bother one of the C suite level people for some help since the person Melissa I was dealing with was absolutely worthless. If she was my employee she'd be on the street looking for a new job. Finally got to the end of what seemed like a four week process and was just about set to maybe do business and then the arrogant homeowner chimed in wanting to get even more intrusive into my life. That was the point I showed my middle finger, and that was the best decision I ever made! A week later not only did I get a very, very good property management company, but the house was literally two blocks away from this house at scout property management. Please do not do business with these people. They don't care about your business, they don't want your business, and you will have a huge headache if you ever sign up with them. I can only imagine How horrible it is once you actually rent one of their properties and try to get something fixed or let them know the rent is wrong or any other small problem. They probably won't even bother to respond. I don't know what it is about Southern California, but the work ethic is pathetic, they lack basic manners, and that's why people in the bay area will run circles around them. So take my advice, go the extra mile, there are some small diamonds in the rough. I was lucky enough to find one and so will you. read more

I'm not sure how any of the positive reviews are legitimate. Julie from day one had zero communication, when I called her on it, she got mad and responded unprofessionally. It wasn't until I threatened to cancel the contract that she backpedaled. My wife and I lived in the rental for a year, we decided to move out and give notice. I gave 60 day notice, heard nothing back. I followed up and Julie once again got upset and started the same old behavior and lack of customer service. I informed her that I need to know how much carpet cleaning would be and asked them for proof that they had it done BEFORE I moved in, because then it would be justified to require carpet cleaning. I received no such proof. They charged me $305 for carpet cleaning, and then charged me $200 for two carbon monoxide detectors (THAT NEVER EXISTED TO BEGIN WITH) and for replacing the A/C air filters. Air filters were no our responsibility under the lease, they are also considered routine maintenance, which can't be charged to tenants under CA Law. Instead of trying to pull my hair out and walk across glass just to get $200 back, considering they probably wouldn't reply, I decided to chalk it up as a loss, and inform other people to avoid these people at all costs. I had new, good paying, responsible tenants lined up to fill out spot but told my friend to look elsewhere because I cannot recommend anyone this company at all. Avoid at all costs. read more

They advertise places to be rented, but they make it almost impossible for you to see them. They refer you to this tenant Turner company who screens you but doesn't ask you questions where you can answer anything and it rejects you even though you still qualify just to see the property where they want you to apply for the property before you even see it. They are trying to do everything technology wise so they don't have to do any work. Do not fill out an application unless you get to see the property otherwise you're going to lose your money. If you're lucky enough to get someone on the phone, they'll tell you dogs are allowed for a particular property and then when you apply, they deny you because you have a dog just to see it and they're not allowed to deny a dogs it's illegal and then they said you didn't tell them. It was an ESA dog but their tenant Turner application just to see the property doesn't allow you to tell them it's an ESA dog. read more

Owner has a Temper and is impulsive. Not very good in a business! I'm going to be quick because I don't have a lot of time but the owner -- sorry I forgot his name because it's been a while -- ended up being completely unprofessional with us. The first thing was he was too lazy to redo a contract. My mom had asked him to redo it because why should we be signing a contract that says we're going to be paying them a certain amount of money which we weren't going to be paying?? (finding the tenant, which we did so ourselves) Then, on top of that, after deciding it was not going to work out, he actually contacted our tenants to tell them that. Scout Property Management has managed the rental of our property for 7 years. We have currently taken possession of the house back and are very happy to be ending our association with Scout. While most things with the house have been taken care of, timeliness and good communication have been issues. We wanted our renters to have leases, but extensions were never done without us reminding the property manager, and even then, the lease extension was done a couple of months late. One year, we discussed and agreed on a rent increase with the property manager, who never included that in the lease. We believe our rental ended up well below market value, which was sad for us as we do not realize a profit from the rent. Yes, we should have been more active in oversight, but we believed that the management company would take care of us. That really has not been the case. They may not return your phone calls or even tell you when they will be done at your property. Our tenants have been out of the house 11 days and Scout has just finished their work, which mainly consisted of small cosmetics, light bulbs, removing Tennant garbage etc. So, if you want to do business with them, stay on your toes. My parents live in San Diego and own a rental property in Temecula. Living an hour away, tenant issues and maintenance became harder as they got older. They were quick on maintenance responses especially if it had to do with plumbing, but anything else they lacked punctuality on everything else. I chose to end my lease because they became that awful to work with, another PM company had my property and they took over a year prior. They also wanted me to reapply for a lease I was already living in for 3 years. I gave my 30 days after terrible conversations with Julie and Grattan. Their agent that scheduled my walk-thru was over an hour late, to where I could no longer be present and they fully took advantage of that! I would not recommend working with them unless you want unnecessary charges taken from your security deposit. They exceeded the 21-day period, with no updates or communication during that process. It took over 5 weeks to get any information and yet again I can not get ahold of anyone and 75% of my deposit was taken out. If you can, go elsewhere. read more

Beware! A lease came up and 12 families applied. Julie the worker for Scout called and said owner picked someone else. 3 weeks later the same property came on Realtor as "New". I called to see if this was fake or what? Julie replied "that the tenants broke the lease and the property was now available again. So instead of going back to the original pool of applications she re-listed the property. It's a smart way to get more applications which equals to more $40 per person credit checks. read more

We rented from Scout Property from November 20 to October 21 and we have nothing but great things to say about them! Julie Spangler was always ready to answer any questions we had and the speed at which any issues in the home were dealt with were fantastic. We had a few plumbing issues, a fallen tree and a broken door bell during out year there and all wall fixed within a day or 2 of putting the request in. I rented a property from Scout Property Management. It has been a total mess. We were promised the place to be clean upon move in. When the movers arrived the place was filthy. We were not assigned a gate code as this is a gated community. Still a month later I sit and wait for someone to come in the gate so I can get in my own house. The still have the key box on the door a month later letting everyone know the place could be vacant. Everything that was promised to us has not been carried though. Scout property management has made having a rental property so easy. I love how they have automatic deposit and are easy to get in touch with. My favorite part of having them manage my property is the service contractors they have. Having them coordinate repairs frees me from that responsibility.
