Of my three wisdom teeth, I think two were pretty severely impacted and had to come out in bits and everything went more flawlessly than I could imagine. The recovery had virtually no pain which I didn't think was possible after surgery. I was prepared for torment and intense discomfort. Nope. Just some swelling, medication, soft foods, instructions on how to wash with a syringe after a week or so and I was set. I had a bone spur or exposed bony torus jutting out of my gum causing pain after injuring my gum with some crunchy food. Typical textbook approach is to open a flap in the gum and grind it out, but Dr Baird said that approach would likely cause it to get worse, and he said that I should let it work itself out of my gum instead. That advice was spot on and when the spur worked itself loose, I went back for him to remove it in seconds, pain free. A great surgeon is one who practices restraint when warranted, recognizing that it's sometimes better to let the body heal itself. read more

Do not make a surgical appointment with this business at this time. During the winter months, you may have a separate medical issue. They will charge you for any cancellations. I have so far been charged $750 for cancellations. That is more than the surgery itself. In addition when you call to cancel, they look at your age on your chart and treat you like a child if you're past a certain age. I do not recommend this business at all especially for someone nervous about their services. The first time I came in for a consultation the doctor wanted to pull the tooth then. Our family has used Dr Baird several times for teeth extraction - at least 4 separate times so far. Three separate visits for stubborn baby teeth removal for both kids and once just recently for all 4 wisdom teeth in my oldest child. The office is efficiently and so kindly run. Dr Baird is very proficient and has a nice bedside manner as well. His back office assistants are amazing - super eager to sooth and help. And very upbeat. Okay over 3 years ago, at the request of my dentist I needed to have a consult with Dr. Baird regarding something the dentist found on my Xrays. I was a complete mess and nervous. From the moment I stepped in, the staff from Elaine to Tiffany to Maria were all so excellent and helped reassure me that I was in great hands. Went in to have all my wisdom teeth removed. Was advised just to have the top removed. Fast forward a few years, and I'm having problems with the bottom ones which generally are harder to remove and cause problems. Seems like he just had me remove the easy ones and left me to deal with any further issues myself. Now I'm having to deal with removing the lower wisdom teeth at an older age (which makes it even harder and problematic). read more

My wife needed to have one wisdom tooth emergency extraction in Oct. 2021. Dr. Baird checked the tooth situation, and advised to have the sedation, due to inflammation and sensitivity. My wife at first was hesitated and worried about the sedation and risk. Dr. Baird communicated it very well and assured my wife. The procedure was very successful and it turned out very wise to make the sedation decision, due to the depth of wisdom tooth root and difficulty otherwise. While Dr. Baird is competent he is also arrogant. My daughter had her wisdom teeth removed, I was also there for all the appointments. He was arrogant and ignored her questions and concerns (she was over 18). He also treated me with a condescending attitude, especially since I seemed knowledgeable. Our overall experience was very bad, she was in tons of pain because he did not care to listen and when she went back, he basically said "Oh well". So I investigated with many other friends who went their for wisdom teeth removal and the experience was universal. I have seen so many videos and heard so many stories of how everyone's experience was with having their wisdom teeth removed and, needless to say, they sure did made it sound like it would negatively change my life. Well, fortunate for me that I waited - Dr. Baird made the experience painless and fast! CONSULTATION / SURGERY SCHEDULING Scheduling a consultation was easy, but finding a closer date was hard. I was pretty shocked (including my co-workers) that the earliest date they had available for consultation was 3-months out. I thought to myself, is he that good or he just has a whole lot of referrals. Anyways, I'm already in 3-levels deep of referrals, sure - I'll wait for 3-months for a consultation. The Lady who confirmed a consultation date recommended that I also confirm a surgery date as it would also be a 3-month out situation as well should I plan on scheduling something day of consultation. I am so glad I did that. I dealt with the dentist assistant and technicians mostly at the consultation, but for a brief moment that I met with Dr. Baird, he was polite, nice, and professional. I felt that was a busy man as he came in with full energy, but the moment he introduced himself and sat down and went over the details on what is going on with my wisdom teeth, what he recommended and what it will be like day of surgery I felt at ease and felt he provided me adequate attention. That said, I decided to follow through with the surgery. DENTIST ASSISTANTS / TECHNICIANS I must have been super dyslexic that day, as I could not find the office so someone from the office had to step out and wave at me. I felt so silly. The check-in and check-out process went super fast and smooth. Everyone there is friendly, sweet and patient pre-surgery, during surgery and post-surgery. DAY-OF SURGERY No pain. No really, no pain. I honestly felt like bragging because I felt that I could have gone to work the day after if I needed to. All I remember about the surgery is laying on that recliner chair, answering some questions, having this thing over my nose and breathing through it, slowly falling asleep, see Dr. Baird walk in, recalling him saying, "here is the laughing gas", out, felt my chair moving, woke up, get escorted to the back room to wait for me to wake up a little more, and see my friend come to sit next to me and then get escorted out through the back door. I do not remember thinking to myself, "man, I am in a lot of pain." Everything went perfect. VERDICT I told my co-worker how well it went and that it was painless, and he asked (probably thinking I am exaggerating about it going so well), "would you do it again?" I paused and said, "yeah!" My dentist referred me to Dr. Baird's office for a consult to determine whether or not I should have my wisdom teeth removed. It took a couple of months before I could get an appointment, but felt at ease with Dr. Baird. He took the time to show me my x-rays and explain why I needed my wisdom teeth removed, and explained the whole surgery process for me. He made me a little nervous by telling me I was a bit old for this surgery, being 23 and all, but explained what type of pain may or may not happen after the surgery. He only recommended I got my bottom teeth removed and explained why, so I knew he was doing only what was necessary. I don't remember much of my actual surgery of course, but I guess it went well! I cannot thank Dr. Baird and his team enough for everything! I came in for my wisdom tooth extraction (I only had one left). I was extremely nervous and anxious and the entire office put me at ease. They used the nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and local anesthesia so I was awake for the procedure. They were all so patient and kind and took such good care of me. Desi (Dr. Baird's assistant) was absolutely amazing at making me feel comfortable and less anxious on the day of the extraction along with Dr. Baird who was just amazing. Dr. Baird is a rockstar oral surgeon. I fainted and hit the floor with my face and knocked out three of my upper front teeth and drove two other teeth almost into my nose. After a ambulance trip and 7 hours in the ER my dentist referred me to Dr. Baird. I live in the East Bay but we made the trip to Palo Alto anyway. I was in his chair less than 20 minutes after arriving at his office. In 45 minutes he removed the two impacted teeth and the remains of the other three. He was able to repair the fractured bone so I didn't need a graft. I'll need implants in the future but he did everything so that would be complication-free. His medical staff were very friendly and genuinely cared for my well-being. A week later at my followup appointment each of them came in to see how I was doing. They all assisted my surgery in some way. They even gave me good suggestions for continued care for my facial lacerations and other associated injuries. I couldn't have asked for a better experience under such severe circumstances and I highly recommend Dr. Baird and his entire team. read more

It is very difficult to review an oral surgery place, because treatment is different for every patient. As a medical researcher, I understand that, so I review just for my wisdom teeth removal. I had my lower 2 teeth removed. First, consultation and decide local or systemic anethesia. I chose local. I think it's better. No point to treat for systemic. Then schedule a surgery day. Surgery is just 45 min. Quick. No pain of course because of anethesia. I got a prescription for antibiotics for 3 days and 20 tablets of acetaminophen with codein. Pain starts about 5 hours after the surgery. Acetoaminophen with codein was not good for me. I am a good respondor for ibuprofen and codein made me so lazy and I couldn't work the next day. It should be asked that. 7 days after the surgery, there is a follow up. then got a syringe to clean up the sockets. Overall, it's good. Negative points: 1. Receptionist should have calld me about the price but didn't. So I called. Delta Dental Premier covers well. 2. the schedule is hard to set up, if you work busy. read more

I recently broke four teeth after a bad fall. I called Dr. Baird's office to see Dr. Baird. The person I spoke with was very uncooperative even though I was a former patient of Dr. Baird. Among other things, she indicated she had first to speak with my regular dentist. Remember, I just broke 4 teeth in front. Well, the next day I called Dr. Baird's office and was transferred to the same person. She said she had to call back my regular dentist again to get more information and for now I did not have any reservation with Dr. Baird. Remember. I have to be exact 3 broken teeth and one that is very loose, all in front. I promptly ended the call and had to make other arrangements very soon, surely before the week-end. I just wanted to share my frustration with the business this surgeon is running!! I think his ego got the worst of him as I'm one of the patients who was referring my friends to him in the past. I'm his patient for over 10 yrs now. Recently I took my twins for wisdom teeth removal. Even though their dentist recommended some other surgeon, knowing his bed side manner, I thought this would be the best option for my 17 yr old teenagers. Long story short, the staff who is running the office, are the worst communicators to accommodate with your interest. You have to work around their schedule not yours. I wasted whole my summer being on waiting list to get this done before school starts. Then they canceled my daughters appointment on surgery day right when I was almost getting there, knowing that I had to commute to get there after 45 minutes drive. Then instead of accommodating with a proper appointment to make up, they offer me a 5:30am surgery time in 2 days to add more agony to deprive my daughters sleep time as well. After I agree to 6am surgery, his office manager calls & cancels both of the kids appointments since Dr. DOES NOT FEEL LIKE working with us because we got upset with the way he runs the business. Dr. Baird isn't an oral surgeon; he is a magician. A wisdom tooth extraction magician. After putting off getting my wisdom teeth pulled for about 5 years, I knew it was time to bite the bullet and get the things removed. They weren't violently impacted, but I was sick of dealing with the hassle of gum irritation and cheek biting and bacteria in those hard to reach places. Better to just get rid of #'s 1, 16, 17, and 32 altogether. I decided to go to Dr. Baird and Dr. Lakha in Palo Alto because they came highly recommended from all my friends who saw them during high school. On my first consultation (which was free of charge - possibly because I scheduled surgery), I talked to Dr. Baird about what was going on with my wizzies, and he recommended extraction of at least 2, possibly all 4 teeth, but left the decision up to me. He also recommended full anesthesia during the procedure as opposed to local anesthetic, but again left the ultimate decision up to me. I opted to get all 4 teeth removed under full anesthesia. It was nice to have the choice. On the day of my surgery, I was nervous (my first surgery) but as soon as I sat down in the chair, Dr. Baird came in with his cute tortoiseshell glasses, gave me a high five, stuck a needle in my arm, and I was out in 5 seconds. I don't remember anything more than that, but I woke up at home minus four bothersome teeth and a hearty prescription of codeine. About 24 hours later, I feel awesome. Besides very very minimal swelling of my cheeks, I have virtually no pain at all. And a hearty prescription of codeine. It was pretty miraculous. I'm going to stick to soup and yogurt for the next day or so, but I feel like I could run a marathon and eat pizza if I wanted to. If you need teeth extractions, go to Dr. Baird. The only reason I went to have my procedure done is because I was highly referred by my primary dentist. In a two week period from consultation to recovery I visited the office 5 times, and here's why you shouldn't go: - At the Front desk everyone there was talking to me with their back turned when I was asking questions regarding my procedure. - I was overcharged for my surgery and was in a lot of pain and had to fight for my refund, which I should not have to do. I was repeatedly told I was wrong, no apology, only incompetence from front office team and giving me the run around. I want to say people who work in the office should not have to do billing because clearly they are not able to calculate what needs to be charged and have very bad bedside manners, especially when this office was referred to me. - Instead of taking time to recover from my difficult procedure, unfortunately, had to deal with people that are rude, unprofessional, and seem to hate their jobs, which left bad taste in my mouth after all! read more

If you're looking for someone to make you feel comfortable and at ease about getting your wisdom teeth out, Dr. Baird is the right guy. BUT if you're aiming for a quick recovery, I definitely suggest looking elsewhere. Dr. Baird did a great job explaining the whole procedure and what I would experience in the following days. He made me feel comfortable the whole time I was sitting in the chair before he started. I had all 4 removed and it took less than 45 minutes -- impressive! When I walked out of the office, I felt confident (at least from what I remember) in the work Dr. Baird had done. But about a week later, the pain was not easing up like he had said it would and like I had heard from others. I had iced, iced, iced my cheeks and had taken all my prescriptions, so I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. When a friend stopped by to drop off some ice cream, she asked how I was doing with "the syringe." Syringe? I was never given a syringe after my surgery. I called the office to find out if I was supposed to be given one, and was told that I should have been, but they must have "just forgotten." Because of THEIR error, my recovery period lasted for OVER A MONTH! Long story short, I had a great experience at the office, but a very unpleasant one for the following month... read more

In October I had a tooth extracted after making arrangements for a payment plan where I'd pay monthly. The extraction went well. Dr. Baird was awesome, the healing went smoothly and everyone I met in the office was wonderful. Sadly the woman (using that term loosely) who manages the accounts is the monster behind the pleasant mask. I'm very good about paying my bills. I pay at the beginning of the month and the middle of the month because I have a very full life between those twice a month scenarios. I received my first bill from them around the 19th or 20th and the very next day this "woman" calls and starts badgering me. Apparently I was supposed to have paid them on the 16th. I don't know about you, but if someone expects me to have a payment to them by the 16th, I expect to have that bill in hand before that date, not after, and certainly not a call for payment the very next day. I was in the midst of crazy computer problems and had a call coming in so I told her I'd have a payment to her around the first of the month. I was totally appalled to discover this morning that she'd taken my payment information and withdrawn the payment amount from my account on her own. Apparently even cold-blooded creatures have God complexes. I do think Dr. Baird did an excellent job and the staff I met was very personable, so if you're in a position to pay up front as is generally expected, you'll be fine. Avoid the snake lady though. After getting over having to use the syringe to shoot water into the bottom holes, recovery was a breeze! They still aren't completely filled in--but almost. I never got the dreaded dry socket and pain and discomfort was minimal after the first week or so. My face didn't swell up AT ALL. I'm so glad I got this procedure done. On a scale of 1-10 on the fear scale, I was at a 22 for about a month leading up to getting my wisdom teeth removed. I'm talking sleepless nights, real tears, and wanting to call it off a million times. My visit to Dr Baird's office made me feel much better. After the consultation I could sense that he and the nurses were super caring. Still, I was very anxious going into surgery. In hindsight, I get the sense that my wisdom teeth were difficult to get out. The surgery took a little longer than expected and the nurses said something to the effect of, "you couldn't have waited another day to get those out!" But with general anesthesia, I don't remember a thing! It really works and Dr. Baird did a phenomenal job!! I'm in the healing phase now with very little swelling and pain I'm managing with Advil. Dr. Baird removed my wisdom teeth (all four) in January 2008. He was amazing in every way and if I ever have to have any kind of oral surgery again I will be sure to go to him. I had never had surgery of any kind before and I was extremely nervous, particularly about the anesthetic. Dr. Baird was incredibly patient with my questions and concerns; he explained how the anesthetic worked and showed me the specially marked drawer that contained the antidote to it. He didn't dismiss any of my concerns and was honest with me about how important it was to have the surgery (no pressure at all). For the surgery itself they didn't give me a chance to get nervous or stressed out; as soon as I was in the room they quickly (but calmly) got me unconscious and I essentially woke up at home in bed a couple hours later. They gave great instructions on how to care for myself afterward and I had no complications. They made the whole experience amazingly pleasant. read more

Dr. Baird removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth about a month and a half ago. I had already seen another oral surgeon and was so turned off by him, so meeting Dr. Baird was a huge relief. I was extremely scared about getting my wisdom teeth out, and he was great at calming my nerves. He also leveled with me about how critical the surgery was for me. I didn't want to get them out unless it was absolutely necessary. He told me the bottom 2 absolutely had to come out, but the top 2 could stay in for a while if I wanted. He discussed the pros and cons of getting all 4 out vs just the bottom 2, and then let me decide what I wanted to do. When I came in for the surgery I was crying in the chair I was so scared, but seconds after he put the IV in I was out and I woke up in the recovery room 45 minutes later with my boyfriend and a nurse by my side. Later that day Dr. Baird, not a nurse or a receptionist, Dr. Baird himself called me to see how I was doing!!! I was miserable of course, but even in my drugged state I was so appreciative of him calling to check in on me. Nearly 6 weeks later my holes are almost completely closed up, and I still can't quite open my jaw all the way, but I'm feeling great. I had no complications with the recovery.
