I had a very bad experience at this office, went in for a deep cleaning thought they were only doing half my mouth at a time, but did my whole mouth at once giving me 8 injections of epinephrine with lidocaine as a numbing agent. When I got home I started feeling strange, bad headache, and strange sensations in my head, was told to take something for the headache and try to relax. Later that night ended up in the ER, having severe panic attacks that lasted for 4 weeks. I believe they hit a nerve with one of the injections that led to all of this, but they didn't even investigate or check up on me. Also was given an electric toothbrush that I didn't want and charged over $100 for, insurance doesn't cover that! read more

Not sure at all what the other review is talking about, but Creating Smiles is a wonderful place to go for dental care. Dr. Kapers is great at what he does and a really nice guy, and so are all of the techs there as well. Even though I only really go for cleanings anymore, I really enjoy going every time and enjoy talking to Maria. They definitely aren't just in it for the money, and will always remember you and be happy to see you. If you're looking for a new dentist or just need a dentist, Creating Smiles is the place to go. The most unprofessional atmosphere! Unskilled from the technicians to the doctor, if one must call him that. Meat market treatment, just take a number, they won't remember you anyway, just want your money and cannot even provide quality dental care. Beware!!! I had two different experiences. Creating smiles with Marybeth and dr. Ornelas was very pleasant. they left and I felt very pressured to have all of this work done. I knew I needed a cleaning and my wisdom teeth taken out. I said no to the cleaning several times. Dr. Kapers was going to take my wisdom teeth out. nobody told me that there was an oral form of sedation that any dentist can get licensed to do. Kayla and dr. K Pressured me into a cleaning with removal. Was told it would cost $1100 and my cleaning would be free because I really needed it. The price went up to $1600. they charge $750 for pills and nitrous this price is about $200 more than normal. Then they insisted there needed to be a 2 minute appointment the day after to see how sedation went. for $155. I don't know if that's normal for oral sedation, but i knew it wasn't common for sedation and it felt weird. Not once did they say it was because it's oral sedation protocol. Bc that would have suggested there are other options. I asked "what can we removed to make it cheaper?" Kayla said nothing then Made me feel really bad "Lindsay, Doctor Kapers already cut costs a lot for you." I look at the list again I go "what's the $110 for?" It's a toothbrush. I said remove it. She JUST told me there was nothing i could remove! I was told several times I had to pay for everything beforehand. So I did (dumb I know). I signed paperwork with my kids in there & being In pain. I was explained the paperwork page by page. Nothing stated that i was aware this was simply oral sedation. I called back later because I was really confused about the sedation after asking friends. Asked "there is an iv drip right?" She said no they don't do that there. THEN explains to me what it was all about. They refunded some $ but charged me $143 because I signed sedation paperwork. That's the most immoral way to handle things. Dr. Kapers was in there too said nothing. It just felt shady and I was right. No wonder dr. Joe and Marybeth left. I highly recommend going to ornelas family dentistry in crown point. Dr. K creates a culture where his employees give vague or round about answers and make you feel dumb or unappreciative just to get money. Ill admit i asked Kayla if they were out of their damn minds haha. I was so upset. She got VERY dramatic and loud "DO NOT SWEAR AT ME." I said "I do not swear. Damn is not a swear word so don't go around saying I was swearing at you." She was trying to compare their practice with a restaurant. Then told me I signed paperwork for sedation and that that appointment is $143. (Which no one told me before.... I wouldn't have signed had I known that) I could go on and on about all of the little things they did to hide costs and guilt me into paying. I will be reporting the office to Indiana and the American dental association with a detailed account of every little thing that happened. Had I known there were options and the details of oral sedation i would have never signed paperwork so they could have never charged me $143. I completely understand they cannot give the medication to someone else once I was sent home with it, but 2 low dose pills of diazepam and triazolam do not cost $143. honestly, if they gave me all of my money back and apologized for not communicating correctly, I wouldn't be leaving this review & I would not be reporting them because that would prove to me they can take responsibility and learn from mistakes. Dr. k should Make things clear to his patients and Kayla should most definitely be fired. After asking around, apparently I'm not the only one who has had an experience like that with her. I was taken advantage of because I was with my children and because I was eager to get my wisdom teeth taken out but scared to go to a different office. I should have known something was up once the two good people left the office. I have poured so much money into that office, and I have so much more work to get done, but it probably doesn't matter because they squeezed as much money from me as possible. read more

Great staff and informative! I've seen post about this dds group being all about the money, they were very cautious about my insurance and assured me of some stuff insurances might deny. The staff was professional and eased all my fears regarding my procedure. I never once felt like I had the finger wagging at me about oral care and Dr. Kapers was great at explaining follow up visits. read more
