My wife was on call on Rig 1 in Le Mars yesterday, so I didn't want to risk grilling up some steaks and having her called out. So, after doing some laundry, we stopped byIowa Barbeque has the best brisket in Siouxland and last night was no joke! I specifically asked for the ends of the brisket and got a whole tray of them. Just look at that smoke ring! If that doesn't make you drool, nothing will! They were so juicy and succulent that I ate myself into a food coma! This brisket easily stays at the top of my list for best brisket in all of Siouxland!Hands down the best barbeque I've had in months!Iowa Barbequehas really stepped up their game! They did some tweaking to the ribs and a few of their sides and it shows! I've always saidIowa Barbeque last night were spot on! The meat was nice and tender with the perfect smoke ring. There was just the right combination of saltiness and smoke flavor. The meat pulled off of the bone with ease, yet it did not just fall off. You've seen me bitch about "fall off the bone" ribs. Those are overcooked! These ribs were cooked spot on! Each bite pulled off with ease. They ate like ribs should eat! No fork was needed! The bone is the utensil and each one was clean when done. Best brick and mortar ribs in Siouxland, hands down!When at a barbeque joint, you also have to get ribs. The ribs we got fromIowa Barbeque for Mac N' Cheese for lunch. She's pretty picky with her Mac N' Cheese and if she says that, you know it's good!My wife went crazy over her first bite of Mac N' Cheese! She loves good Mac N' Cheese andIowa Barbequegets it! I like my beans like my wife likes her Mac N' Cheese. The beans last night had big chunks of meat in them giving them both great flavor and a wonderful texture! They are a true Texas Style baked bean. They pack a little heat, so if you can't do spicy, you're going to want to steer clear. The other is outside of Baton Rouge, a place called Couyon's. I'm adding Iowa BBQ to that list. This place was fantastic, I could have made a meal off of the Smoked Jalapeno Poppers alone. Only complaint, and I'm Southern now, I NEED some fresh sweet tea in there!!!

Very good prices, friendly customer service, and they now take credit cards. There is a small frozen bin at the front where you can buy individual Blue Bunny ice cream treats in case you didn't want to pick up an entire box. Produce was reasonable, there's a small Mexican section, and there is a decent selection of HBA's (shampoo, etc.). There's no Target in town so that's important. Somewhat lacking in dairy selections (pretty much you get Blue Bunny and the generic) but this is a Blue Bunny town (though the milk plant's been sold to another brand.) The frozen food vegetarian selection was kind of lacking, but this is Iowa, and Fareway will order things for you if you ask and if their distributor carries it.

Most tiny towns in Iowa don't have their own health food store, so just *being* there, this place…read moredoes a real service. Anyone can shop there, but the membership fee (about $20) meant you could pick up a catalog once a month and order in bulk at about 5% over wholesale, which I did several times. The staff was willing to take suggestions; they started carrying Endangered Species chocolate bars after I bought them in bulk a couple of times. Small refrigerated/frozen section; some personal care products and cleaning items, in addition to cookbooks. The sale table is worth a look.
