Took my bike for its first service here (and generally my first experience at a moto service shop), and got to interact with this side of the shop now. Freddie is an awesome guy and helped me get my service scheduled and kept me informed throughout the process. Both break-in service and some additional accessory install that I requested were done, and I'm happy with the work. I'll definitely be back here for my future motorcycle needs! Edit 7/11: rental #3 done! Honda Rebel 500 this time around, really great machine to ride! I love that this one came equipped with a wind deflector which helped with comfort riding on the freeway. Definitely nicer having the parallel twin over the single, really enjoyed my ride! As always, it's a pleasure to interact with my favorite people at the store. Nini, Henry, Freddie, Anthony, the whole crew... yall are awesome! I'm happy to have a preferred local motorcycle shop in the books. Looking forward to giving them my business when it's time for servicing my own bike -- Edit 6/20: rental #2 done! Honda Rebel 300, perfect bike for a beginner with short legs. Again what a great experience interacting with an all-star team. Nini, Henry, Freddie, it always feels good to be at the shop and interact with them. Really great people to talk to, I've learned so much from them talking through my ride, what I've learned and could improve on, and generally just progression with my motorcycle journey. Being a returning customer, you do get discounts on the base rate, and I'm looking forward to my third one I'm planning for next month! -- 5/24: I'm editing and reposting my 5-star review with way more details now that I have firsthand experience of renting a motorcycle from there, and just how blown away I was by the overall experience. tl;dr -- local area intimidated total beginner squid had a very good overall first experience renting a moto and getting on the road for real As a brand new rider fresh off my M1 endorsement, I came in more nervous than I'd like to admit. Nini at the front desk was absolutely perfect for the job imo: compassionate, reassuring, and exactly what a first-timer needs before throwing a leg over a bike for the first time for real. Freddie and Henry were great too, really easy dudes to talk to and very helpful with sharing tips and other pointers for me. I'll be honest, I dropped the bike an equal number of times on both sides over the weekend, all at zero mph (embarassing af). Symmetrically bruised ego, perfectly balanced. Returning it felt intimidating, but the whole team handled it with zero judgment and genuine professionalism. I didn't try to hide anything and they made the whole process painless, albeit with some monetary penalties caused by my inexperience (I own up to this though). I'm leaving with my wallet lighter but with my heart genuinely fuller for the experience. The environment this shop creates for nervous beginners like me is genuinely rare, and it made me feel supported and motivated to come back and do better next time. Will absolutely be back for my next rental and keep getting ride time in, because real experience gained like I did is priceless. The human element of the shop is just cherry on top, and makes me feel good I'm supporting a local business. Shoutout to Nini, Freddie, and Henry. You made a squid feel welcome.

After riding for a few weeks, I noticed my forks were leaking oil, so I took it to Nor Cal Cycles for a repair. From the moment I walked in, Alfie greeted me and made me feel welcomed. He took the time to listen to my concerns and scheduled an appointment for me to drop off my bike. About a week later, Alfie reached out with some honest recommendations, including changing my tires which I happily agreed to. His honesty and kindness are truly refreshing in today's world. Where finding folks who take pride in what they do a bit tough. Alfie also shared with me additional advice about my bike once I came to pick it up, which was great. A huge thank you to the entire Nor Cal crew, and especially to Alfie for making this experience so smooth. I'll definitely be returning!

He was very friendly, yet professional. Met him in the parking lot near Lake Merced and the Zoo. When we arrived, he already had the motorcycles unloaded from the trailer and waiting. In our case, my friend and I booked a lesson for just the two of us. Since she is all of 5'2" on a good day, Jonathan selected the low-rider Honda rebel for her. Since I am quite tall, I was given a tall, rough and ready dirt bike (believe it was a suzuki). Both bikes were in good shape. Over the course of the two days, we took two 2-hour classes back to back. Neither of us had any prior experience. By the end of the second class, we had learned to properly mount and start the bikes, shift up and down from 1-3 gear, perform turns to the left and right through a series of traffic cones. I am excited for my next lesson - which happens to be scheduled for today! Highly recommend!

The smaller the bike the easier it is to do this test. I am an experience rider, more than 10 years, but relocating from Canada to California, DMV requires me to redo all of my tests. I have my own motorcycle, but I repeat my self, go for a smaller bike, you will have all the time in the world to show off on your own bike. Bay Rider's Group is renting a small Nighthawk 250cc, it is perfect for the test. Yes you will look like a giant on it, but the circle on the circuit will look big on that bike. The bike is not new, but you will ride it only for 1h and 5 minutes :) 1h practice and 5 minutes test.

I quickly got the hang of it and as of today, I've completed my 15th ride in the month and a half that I've been a user. I've loved how: 1) Easy it is to find a moped around the city. It's not as easy as riding a scooter so the supply of mopeds will almost never be a problem. 2) Easy it is to park. You can pretty much park it anywhere and not have to deal w/ finding parking in the city. 3) I've been able to find joy in the monotony of getting from point A to B. It's always an adventure :) I'm looking forward to trying the day pass for an all-day adventure!

Here is my review of the new Revel scooters you see on the streets…read more I signed up recently out of curiosity and online I found a free $20 credit and no sign up fee. I signed up a few days prior before I wanted to use the moped. The sign up process and safety quiz take about 20 minutes, so it's best to do it ahead of time. It's hard not calling it a "scooter" as thats now the typical nomenclature for the Lime electric scooters you see. When I signed up, I was charged a $5 fee. A few days later after the charge cleared I emailed Revel to see why there was a fee even though I applied a coupon that was approved. Revel refused to refund the fee. I suggested it was fraud and to close my account, but they counted to say I had $30 in ride credits that I would forfeit if I closed my account, so I reluctently keep it open. A few days later I had a couple appointments to go too. I found a moped about a block away. Unlocking was easy. In the rear of the moped are two helmets and a few hairnets (for covid). The larger of the two helmets was very tight on my head, but thankfully it fit. You are required to wear their helmet. It then took me about 5 minutes to get the moped running. I followed the instructions, but it was not intuitive and the display was confusing. The moped has a USB charger and a place to hold your phone. Riding the Revel moped was fairly easy. Its been a few years since I rode a moped so it took some time for me to get aquatinted with it. I got to my destination and parked in a meter spot. I had seen other motorcycles and mopeds parked in metered spaces so at first I thought it was ok. About 10 minutes before my appointment I got nervous about where I parked and decided to call Revel. There was San Francisco specific parking info available in the app. Revel said that parking in a meter spot was not advisable and that I was responsible for the moped 24 hours after I parked it. So I had to hold my appointment and move the moped around the corner to a residential parking permit zone. After my appointment, I had to move my moped again as it was only in a 1 hour residential parking permit spot. So I took it home and parked it where I found it (also in a residential parking permit location). Here are my tips that Revel doesn't tell you. 1) San Francisco allows electric moped companies to park in residential parking permit locations. It doesn't say this in the Revel app or on its website. https://www.sfmta.com/projects/shared-electric-moped-parking-permit-program 2) The cost of the Revel for a 20 minute ride was about equal to that of taking a Lyft or Uber. 3) It's easier to get up larger hills with a moped vs a electric scooter. You basically drive it like you would a car. 4) The rear compartment is filled with helmets. So going to the grocery store with it isn't a possibility. 5) Mopeds are not like scooters. You can't park them anywhere, you have more rules to follow, there are more limitations on where to drive, and you must know how to drive. Overall the Revel moped was nifty, but with the parking restrictions, cost, and limited use, I don't see myself using it more frequently.

The first five minutes of Can's intro is blunt. He's brash. He doesn't soften it. I'll be honest: that opening can catch you off guard. Give it an hour. That's when it becomes obvious this isn't attitude for its own sake. Can has a huge heart, and the entire day is built around one thing: making you a better, safer, more capable rider. The skills we left with aren't just "how to get the front wheel up." They're throttle control, body position, focus, and the kind of confidence that carries into street riding, canyon riding, and everything else we do on two wheels. The team on Sunday was outstanding. Can runs the show and still finds time to coach you one-on-one. Direct. Demanding. Completely invested and seemed to really enjoy celebrating your victories no matter how big...or small. Jill is an impressive young woman. Calm, sharp, and clearly cut from the same cloth. She belongs on that staff. Dean kept the whole day light. Jokes all day. That matters when you're nervous and trying something that feels bigger than you. Mark and Chris were the reason bikes stayed running. They made a handful of repairs on the fly so people could stay on two wheels instead of sitting it out. That's not extra. That's the difference between a class that works and a class that falls apart. We cannot thank this team enough. If you want training that actually changes how you ride, book with Superbike-Coach. We are already planning our next course with them!
