Color me unimpressed. Arrived mid day to get some ice cream for the little one. Place looked like it was boarded up. No one at the closed service window. I went around the building, checking doors, but found out that there is no inside, and everything is done at the window. After rapping pretty damned hard on the window, we finally got someone to take our order. Ordered a CHILDS SIZE softserve chocolate for my three year old, and it came out to somewhere over four dollars, cash only. (A kids cone from Mr. Softee is $1.50 btw.) Yikes. Shame shame on me .... I didn't notice that it was National Ice Cream Day. Well, actually shame shame shame on my Sunday morning newspapers because this should have been the headline of all headlines! If I had only known ... I would have been cruising around to revisit and discover places familiar and unusual whose raison d'etre is the sale of God's truly perfect food gift to humanity ... ice cream. As my evening was ending friends said 'want to come to 'Scoopy's?' Let's see ... Dave and ice cream with an invite too. This was something I couldn't say no to but my previous experience at this Woodbury purveyor of the cold creamy sugary mainstay was not the greatest. In the moment I was really wishing they had suggested another local spot but it was their treat and their suggestion. Parking is really tight at Scoopy's Too when it is busy and Jersey drivers are wont to step on the pedal when they see an open parking space so one needs to be very careful in this lot. Busy times mean longish lines because there are only two windows serving hungry ice cream dreamers at this CASH ONLY establishment. My eyes grew in stature as I saw the many choices ... an amazing array of soft serve ice cream options, which I knew meant that they were flavoring each person's choice rather than filling cups and cones with an already flavored soft ice cream. Their hard ice cream choices were many and if memory serves me correctly these options come from a well known Pennsylvania ice cream factory that also sells to grocery store chains. There is definitely nothing to indicate that what is in your Scoopy cup or cone was actually lovingly created in a Scoopy ice cream machine. But, the good news ... well first we over heard someone say it was National Ice Cream Day and I breathed a sigh of relief because my friend Jessica never would forgive me if I didn't eat ice cream on National Ice Cream Day although her store does create its own creamy awesome ice cream. The second bit of good news ... I decided to choose the soft serve Irish Cream option and cover it was hot fudge. I was the last to order, the only one choosing a topping, and the young lady said 'for National Ice Cream Day all toppings are FREE.' YES ... FREE HOT FUDGE ... now my friends were treating but still I just saved them a pretty penny, dime and combination of quarters. Good Stuff. In this stream of happy good news I need to pause to mention an oops moment that tugged this rating down. After some careful thinking my friend who was treating all of us decided that her cup of chocolate hard ice cream would be enhanced with the addition of some free topping. So, when hers was delivered she asked if they could add a FREE TOPPING ... nope. That was rather disappointing. However, to finish this ice cream report with a smile ... my IRISH CREAM covered in hot fudge was DELISH!! I was debating buying another but then I thought back on the time in the gym .... I passed. I also was offered a spoonful of my daughter's hard chocolate banana ice cream and that too was a winner. Now, I prefer rich and creamy ice cream (Just look into my freezer and see all the Sunset Ice Cream that I have stored there.) and this ice cream was leaned to the sweet side of life. I was surprised when I pulled up to see that this place looked more like a house than an ice cream shop! Lol I pulled in and there was only a couple of parking spots open, so this is a popular place on a Saturday. There was outdoor seating picnic tables filled with people on the side of the business. I went around back when I could see a line formed to get ice cream back there. I had to wait about 30 minutes and there were only about 5 people in front of me, so it wasn't the quickest service, but I'm not complaining. Their menu is huge and diverse. They have so many flavors to choose from, soft serve, dipped options, sundaes, a ton of toppings, and other foods like pretzels. I ordered a cone with chocolate banana and strawberry cheesecake ice cream. It was so yummy and worth the wait! The girls working were so nice and helpful, even though they were so busy. I've been going to Scoopy's for years and since last year I noticed the prices for their soft serve ice cream wet up and their portions went down. At first I thought it was a mistake made by the girl at the window, but then it happened every time I ordered a medium soft serve I end up with a small and when I ordered a small it was the same size. Why have a medium soft serve if you're going to train your employees to give smalls? I put 100% of the blame on the owner. She needs to retrain her employees to give customers what they pay for. read more

My daughter did a good job on her choirs today so I wanted to get her a treat. Decided to stop here because it was local and I've heard mostly good things. I was also just happy to have a place that was open. She got an orange soft serve and overall it's about what I expected until I notice a note on the soft serve sign "sugar free 80¢ extra". What was this? It's virtually impossible to find a place that serves sugar free and if they do it's 1-2 flavors. I asked about it basically expecting it to be a lie but yea that have sugar free vanilla which works with their soft serve machine. Apparently their machine that does sugar free is limited to only 24 flavors as opposed to the full 32 flavor selection but that's at least 20 more than I expected. So after stopping by just for a simple treat for my kid I'm thrilled to have discovered a local place I can get a full selection of sugar free too! I was in the area for business and just finished lunch. It was a really hot day and I was so tired of getting Rita's. I looked up Yelp and found out that Scoopy offers 32 flavors of soft serve! They also have a lot of cool items here. Some of these are: icecream pizza, it looks to resemble a cheesecake pie, but with icecream! They also have funnel cake fries. There were a bunch but I was already full so I decided to stick with the soft serve. One of the things to mention is that, even though there are 32 flavors of soft serve, the base will always be either vanilla or chocolate. The syrup and flavoring are added to the mix before serving. It was the only let down because you cannot try the flavors before buying, they had to be mixed in. With that in mind, I do believe the soft serve was amazing. I got teaberry and creme de menthe, both flavors came out distinctive and bold. The serving size was also huge. I'll definitely stop by again whenever I'm in the are to try everything else. read more

Frankly, they should be featured on the food network or at least the local news. Their selection is the biggest we've ever seen and I always have trouble deciding what to order. They would not put my mother's banana split (her once a year treat) in a non-boat container even though we explained that we had to travel 20 mins and it would spill everywhere. You will find some interesting flavors at Scoopy's such as Rice Crispy Treat and Red Velvet Cake. The ice cream is good and the prices aren't bad. My two gripes are that the line took a very long time (maybe only 1-2 people working) and the ice cream was extremely melty (freezers not cool enough maybe). Their flavors are interesting, and they certainly offer a nice variety. My experiences here are generally positive, especially when it comes to their soft serve. I would recommend this place to people who are interested in trying a bigger variety of soft serve ice cream without having to make the trek all the way to Philadelphia. It's not too expensive either, although I would say to still bring extra cash in the event you find yourself wanting more. The only negative experience I've had is with the English Toffee. Under no circumstances should anyone purchase this, primarily because the flavor is so weak that it's essentially vanilla. It's not a flavor that exists on its own, they mix two flavors to create it; that's likely why the toffee taste is non existent. It's unfortunate, but then again trial and error. Otherwise, if you're wondering about different flavors then the staff will be happy to provide a sample if you ask. They are warm, welcoming, and friendly towards everyone. Definitely worth visiting again, especially if you enjoy pumpkin or pistachio soft serve! read more
