I love bao, but it came with two for an order so it was really filling. I was given a beeper when the food was ready then choose from a lot of seating options. The Caribbean Café may not look much from the outside, but much like many of the places in the market, the effort goes elsewhere, and I'm not arguing with what this guy has chosen to focus on: fresh-cooked food, conversation, and atmosphere (which, despite the rather modest premises, is far from lacking. You can feel the buzz as you walk into this place. The owner is chatting away to the people at the tables, keen to know about them, inform them, and just generally make them feel at home, so they can linger over their food. Nevertheless, he somehow manages to juggle this with quick service, and within minutes, I'm sitting with a perfectly presented plate of goat curry, my choice of salsa and salad, and my rice option (charmingly sand-castled into an upended cone!), while he freshly fries my side order of plantain (only 50p!), and serves a couple of people popping in for takeaway with other food I wish I had room for. At one point, I find myself alone, and rather than feeling awkward or imposed on, I enjoy chatting away to the owner about our jobs, backgrounds, upcoming events he'll be involved in, and of course the food (it's hard to say which of us loves it more)! He is happy to give me a free taster of his jerk chicken, and to recommend a place I can buy my own plantains. By the end of my meal, I don't want to leave. I want more. More of the tender meat and flavoursome (but not too spicy) sauce, more steaming hot plantains, and more friendly chatter. And the good news is, he caters for the reggae evenings at Outlaws Yacht Club, and he'll soon be doing breakfasts... so there is more to come, and as I leave, I find myself promising to be back with friends, because this is the kind of place and the kind of person that I would be proud to introduce my friends to!

I didn't try the ribs that were brought around, but I did watch other Yelpers tuck into them and they seemed happy so thumbs up for the ribs too! The bubble tea was certainly an experience too! A weird but tasty refreshing juice drink that had small bubbles of juice floating around at the bottom. Occasionally one would fly up your straw and, if you avoid choking on it like I did, they pop and release a different flavour of juice. Very odd - but very good. If I'm in Alty Market again soon I'll be paying them another visit!

I'd already decided to treat him, but the question was - where to go? Since we didn't wish to trek into town, we opted to head over to Sukhothai after a few at Arcadia. And it's safe to say this was an excellent choice. You get the royal treatment in all of their venues, with beautifully dressed and attentive staff, ready to welcome you in. We were seated and treated to the Christmas menu, which was too tempting not to try. We went for the 'Snowflake' (I think, that or the Santa) which meant sharing three starters, three mains, and a dessert each for £50. Not bad at all. The starters were delicious, with the prawns being beautifully arranged like little birds, and the chicken satay was to die for. I'm not sure what the creamy sauce is that was slathered on them, but it was beautiful! To follow came one of the most delicious coconut and steak curries I've had the pleasure of eating - the steak melted in your mouth, and the flavour of the dish was exquisite. The duck dish was just as lovely, but much spicier, and the chicken (deep fried and breadcrumbed) was equally well made. Basically, all of it was incredible. The range showed a good number of flavours, and it all came in good time - in fact, they checked to see how soon we'd like them to come. I'd no room for the dessert, but they even popped it in a box for us to take home. The staff were all wonderful, and the whole experience was a real treat. We shall be back for certain!

I had the chicken noodle soup (£4) followed by a red curry (£8) and both were insanely flavourful, and the fact that you can wash it all down with genuine Thai beers such as Chang just ices the already impressive cake.
