Even though it said 'unisex' in the window, the women looked a bit confused at a bloke walking in and asking if he needed an appointment. I didn't, and a young, very amiable girl by the name of Becky ushered me into a chair and gave me a really good haircut. It was so good I would've become a regular there but at the time couldn't stretch to the £13 the haircut cost. I also ruined her good work by shaving it all off on impulse about a month later. When I've walked past since and glanced in, the place often seems to be catering for older ladies getting their perms touched up, but don't let that put you off even if you're a dashing, going places young buck like me.

Thankfully, the only hairdressers my girlfriend trusts work in Vangelis, which is just down in Bearwood. One rare occassion we both had a day off I ended up in there reading the paper whilst she had her hair done. It's a clean and pleasant, functional place - it's not the flashest salon in the world, but it's not stuck in the 1980s either. The ladies who work there - it does seem to be all ladies - appear to know what they're doing. The girl who did my girlfriend's barnet wasn't particularly chatty, but nor was she the false, inane wittering kind of hairdresser. I was just left alone in the corner untroubled with me paper. I think the whole thing cost somewhere between £30 and £40 for a trim.

As I was very happy with the result I rang again this morning just for a quick, dry cut, trim with Anna only to be told that would be an extortionate £20!!!!! When I asked the young lady on the phone why it was £20 when I had previously paid £30 for a wash, cut and blow dry, all she could rudely say was"well that's how much it is"!!!!. Needless to say I will never be going back there again which is a shame as I thought I had landed lucky and found a good hairdresser that I would have continued to use for years to come. A number of times I have been forced to sit and watch my girlfriend have her hair done, because…read morethat's how good of a boyfriend I am... Each time I have been extremely impressed with the level of customer service provided, even towards myself, merely an observer. My girlfriend in particular is a big fan of Cabella, as are the majority of the locals living in the Oldbury area. Every time I have been, I have been offered a drink, which for men is a big change from the typical 'barber' atmosphere. Despite holding a fairly intimate client base around the surrounding area, Cabella remain welcoming and friendly to everyone who walks through the door, including myself! Some logistics now, you can expect to pay £50-£60 for a colour, cut and blow-dry. The staff seem well trained in their field, offering valuable assistance to their customers as well invaluable ideas to those who are indecisive. Despite Cabella's being unisex, I am yet to personally have a haircut there, as I'm to loyal to my barbers, but maybe in the future, especially with this review, I may be persuaded to give it a try!

It was quite busy today, being a Saturday, but they had at least 7 barbers on the floor working professionally and to high standard with each customer. An amazing thing about Turkish Golden Scissors is that even when busy they won't rush the individual they are looking after. When it is your turn, and you see there is a queue, the barber never lets you feel that he has to rush; but your his/her priority for however long he/she is with you. I was asked if I wanted a drink, and I had my favourite Turkish tea which is a great drink to have while you wait. Had a pleasant chat with the barber too who asked questions about me and they were genuine. All I'd say is that there is no uniform way of cutting or styling your hair, so you don't know who you will see, how he will treat you and what will you look like at the end. But, I've not had a bad experience yet, and by the looks of everyone, I don't think I will. However, some have done a better job than others. Overall, will keep coming back for the spar-like treatment.

Offering wash, cut and style from just £10 their services are very reasonably priced. Seeing that they offer a traditional shave and that I'm off camping tomorrow, I go in for this service as I want a close shave so I'm not looking too feral by Monday morning. My face is prepared by the way of a very hot towel; the stylist tells me that this opens up the pores and expands the skin on the face and will allow him to get as close a shave as possible. Then he rubs a light lather into my face. Then the moment of trust is upon me! But, of course I have nothing to fear, and 10 minutes later, I'm out of the door with a face as smooth as a baby's doo-dah. At £10 it may seem steep but it's nice as treat for special occasions.
