I love that he encourages our family to have healthy lifestyles i.e. exercising, eating healthy, taking whole food vitamins, eating organic and locally grown when possible. Before rushing to prescribe a bunch of antibiotics or other pharmaceutical drugs and saying "good luck" like most doctors do these days - he'll suggest more natural, holistic remedies first, depending on the medical nature of the problem. He implements a logical sequence and balance of utilizing modern medicine, research and pharmaceuticals as well as natural remedies, as needed. Another thing that I found interesting is when asked at different hospitals (Rush, University of Chicago, and West Suburban Medical Center) who was my or my kids general practitioner , all the nurses and doctors said "you've got a great doctor" or "he's really good at what he does". That's totally reassuring when, if they wanted, could have instead advised me to utilize one of their staff doctors. Dr. Shauttauer came to the hospital after my second child was born and ensured she breastfed immediately to get the colostrum and that the baby nursed properly. And he was very concerned that I was doing well also. That experience was completely different from the hospital ended up at after delivering my first child (before I found Dr. Shauttauer) where the staff wanted to immediately take my son to see some random pediatrician and my husband had to debate with the staff to keep the child in the room with us or he was going where ever they were taking our child (and he did - they called him "the crazy man that won't leave his child") and they also gave our baby formula (which caused him to vomit multiple times) after we told them not to...sorry, had a short post traumatic stress moment there. Anyway, Dr. Shauttauer insured he was at the hospital on a Sunday to check on my newborn so the staff didn't have to whisk her away. Just be aware you have to pay out of pocket for office visits and hope to get reimbursed from insurance. I never remember to submit my claim to the insurance. So my visits were never counted towards my deductible. But, I'd rather pay out of pocket for good care for my children than let my insurance pay a crappy doctor. I can't say what the prices for everyone else will be, but I paid a ranged from like $50/visit to $150 for hospital visit. It may be different now because I had my daughter in 2015. Call first to check the prices before making a visit, to be sure.

From the start, the staff was unhelpful and disorganized. After confirming with my insurance that the office was covered and accepting new patients, I went in for my first appointment, confirmed everything, and had my initial visit. However, when I arrived for my next scheduled appointment, I waited as usual, was taken in, and began the appointment. Then, out of nowhere, the front desk came into the room and told me they no longer accepted my insurance and couldn't see my child anymore. They claimed they weren't taking any new patients, but my child had already been seen before--this was her second appointment! Why was this not communicated when we scheduled? Why check me in and start the appointment only to stop halfway through? It's clear this office cares more about what kind of insurance you have than actually providing care. This is both unethical and morally wrong. I left feeling frustrated and unheard. I expect much more professionalism and care when it comes to my child's well-being. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Ayuste Pediatrics and would not recommend them to other parents.

I told her the ENT said we didn't need to take them out and her response shocked me. "Did you see Mahoney?" She said the decision to leave them in was negligent. And in a more shocking turn of events, we found out her adenoids had grown back. That's very rare (less than 2%) but what's even crazier, is that I talked to another mom who went through the same thing at the same doctor, one year later. I can't guarantee this, but am convinced she did not properly remove them. We ended up seeing Dr. Kevin Casey for a tonsillectomy, second adenoidectomy, and turbinate reduction. I HIGHLY recommend him - he did a great job. I later found out that Dr. Mahoney sent a little girl home after some complications and that little girl bled to death so please please please see another doctor.

The nurses are so incredible with our girls and always go above and beyond. We have seen almost all of the doctors but Dr. Roberts is our favorite. Most recently, our infant daughter had RSV and was hospitalized due to it. Dr. Roberts followed up with a phone call several times to check in on us while we were at the hospital. After speaking to our nurse further she made sure to let us know that their policy is to give kids 36 months and older the multi dose flu shot (w thimerosal) but the single dose preservative free is available upon request. Besides being insanely irresponsible, she did mention our daughter had the preservative free in 2017 without ever giving us an option. I wonder how many physicians in that group will go on record showing us their own children this age getting the multi dose. Shame on you Elmhurst Pediatrics. I'm not sure if those two things are related but that has been our experience for the last 8 years with 3 kids. Seriously--bring a notebook and don't plan to get out of there within 60 minutes. Dr. Shakir and Dr. Gronli are our great favorites, but each doctor we have interacted with at the different branches has been very good, and I think most or many at West Chicago are bilingual. Biggest tip: the West Chicago location does not have its own phone number. You will be directed to the main office location in Naperville which is extremely busy. Two hacks for avoiding the long wait on hold: --Schedule your next checkup at the end of each visit (obviously) --Start a conversation via text in order to schedule an appointment or get a call back from a nurse with the main phone number. I didn't know this until another patient's parent told me because it is not well advertised, but it saves a ton of time. Would not hesitate to recommend this practice to anyone. We went later that day because I was nervous (we had a hard time getting her weight up after delivery) and it turns out she is in the 32%. Which is great news, but i didn't need to pay for that visit... all in all I Didn't get a great feeling.
