I wasn't really interested in an appraisal, more so information about it, since it belonged to a family member and has sentimental value to me. I am writing this review for 2 reasons. I got a gemstone appraised from Sam and it was a great experience. I had written him that I wanted both to sell and to receive an appraisal on a 26 carat tanzanite stone. He wrote me back and the first thing he said was "I have to tell you - NEVER request both a sale of a stone and an appraisal to the same person. Vince u do that most often the appraisal will be way low so they can purchase it at a reduced cost". I was so impressed by his response as I had no idea that happens. He inspects and appraises your stones. Right in front of you. No switching stones is possible. That went great! What happens next is absolutely mind blowing. I was moving out of state and I went there stupidly with a pouch that had about $9000 dollars in it. To cut to the chase, I went several more places snd when I got back to my daughters I. Priced the pouch was gone. I was absolutely devastated. We retraced my steps including Mr. Schulman's house. No luck. I went to bed that night knowing it was lost forever. Who is going to turn in a pouch of money. There was no identification in it or anything. The next day I got up and was still so sick about my ignorance the day before. In fact I bought a new Camaro the day before and couldn't even enjoy it as I was so mad at myself. Iv got back home mid afternoon and my phone ran. It was Mr. Schulman. I answered and he asked me if I found the money. I said no. He said that was because he had it. His wife found it in a chair. I cried and cried and said "I can't believe you would give it to me" to which he responded "I don't need your money to get it like that". I hurried down there. I knew he wouldn't take the $500 I wanted to offer him so I stopped and bought a large blue orchid and a $100 dining gift card. I was right. Neither of them would take money from me but they graciously accept the flower and gift card. I talked with them for a little bit and then left. I am now in Mesa, AZ and having that money back helped me so much. Most of all, it restored my faith in my fellow human beings. Life has been trying lately snd sometimes we lose hope that people will even help a person in distress. I now know there are people like this that really cared.
