I needed to have my parents ashes separated so me and my siblings could each have some. I called…read morethem on my way out of town and ask if they could separate them (and I asked them ship them to me). The very pleasant woman on the other side said "come on by." On the way to the airport, I stopped at the funeral home. She asked if they had done my parents' funerals. I was a bit embarrassed and said "no, but they lived around the corner." After explaining what I wanted, she quickly separated the ashes into three containers and brought them back to me. I asked her what was the charge. She said "No charge. Happy to do it." I was blown away. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting (a few $100 dollars maybe) but I wasn't expecting it for free. And that was it. I am so grateful to the kind people at Kish and if I sadly had another service to plan in the area, I would absolutely use them.

I waited until every detail was complete to safely speak my mind. I strongly felt my trust was violated. Comments were made to me during the meeting that were unwarranted and left me confused as to why they were even said to me while making funeral arrangements. My one brief encounter with the owner of the funeral home was when he came in the room as we were placing flowers around the casket and I said everything looks good. The owner of Kish Funeral Home exclaimed "this isn't our first time at the rodeo." I found this to be a very insensitive and crass comment to make in light of the loss and grief we were feeling. No signs of empathy or a genuine handshake from a business man who owns a prominent funeral home in town. I was told that our funeral was the worst they have had in the 10 years they were in business. I was shocked that this was stated to me because I did not encounter any incident or cause any problems for the funeral home or their representatives, but when I questioned the remark 3 times, they refused to answer or apologize. During this very sensitive time, I found this comment insulting and injurious to my good character. Funeral homes should never advocate for familial unity when there was none prior to the passing of the decedent. Funeral homes shouldn't pass judgement, exhibit favoritism or discriminate based on status or title even though the deceased resided in the Cobblestones. Mourners certainly will take note of bossy and rude representatives of Kish Funeral Home during the wake and tell me later how they felt. Once your funeral is a sure thing, their next goal is securing the next wake. You can get everything right but if you violate a family's trust by overstepping your place and bounds, you lose everything. Trust is everything to a family when selecting a funeral home. Unfortunately, it is not easy to grab your deceased loved one and walk out the front door once arrangements have been made. Kish Funeral Home lost on all counts.

I must first state that Yelp.com remains the best and most reliable place where the customer or…read moreclient can post their review both positive or negative. Both Facebook and Google reviews are geared towards protecting the business at the expense of legitimate complaints by hiding them in a sugar coated sea of fluff or removing them when you don't expect it, without notification. Recently, I attended a wake at Solan-Pruzin Funeral as I entered for the very first time, I was taken back how light and airy it was inside, so warm and inviting. Imagine that, a funeral home being inviting? Well, the staff on duty was very professional and quite friendly and willing to engage me in a conversation. When I entered the chapel area where the family was receiving guests, I was immediately drawn to the flowers. They were that beautiful and exquisitely done I thought for a minute I did them myself, down to the long flowing ribbons that added such grace and elegance. The family flowers, the end baskets and casket spray were just that stunning. You see, I've been a florist and owned my own shop in downtown Chicago for over 35 years, so I've been around. It's quite rare to see such fabulous design work in Northwest Indiana, at least so far. Most funeral homes know little or nothing about floral design but think they do. Wisely, Solan-Pruzin has identified an extraordinary talented florist with an exceptional eye that certainly will help to enhance this spacious and tastefully appointed funeral home as to set themselves apart from the competition. All this time, some of us may have thought the most prestigious funeral home was in Munster, Indiana. Think again! The best funeral home is Solan-Pruzin in Schererville, Indiana. If you're planning on checking out anytime soon, go with the very best! I highly recommend Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home!

The rooms are deep and spacious so they can fit a lot of visitors inside. The location is great being just off Kennedy Avenue in Schererville, and the parking lot is nice and large so finding a spot is easy as pie. All in all this funeral home seems like an excellent place to utilize when you are in need of their services.

There have been a couple of problems with the way it was made, and Mike is working with me to get this resolved. I believe the problem lies with the company that actually makes the finished stone, instead of with Elmwood. But I bought the marker from Elmwood, so they are ultimately responsible. I expect to have this resolved satisfactorily. I'll update my review when things are finalized." ____________________________________________________________________________ Updated August 2023: Once a marker is sent back because it was not made right, you would expect it to be right the second time. It was not! And it wasn't right the third time either. Mike got in touch of the owner of the company that does all the machine work to make the marker appear as it was ordered. The owner told Mike he would personally see to it that it would be made right this time. We actually have the marker installed, looking as it was ordered. This was a long time coming! Since it was so difficult to have it done properly, Mike offered a discount, which I thought was more than fair. This particular transaction was difficult for both Mike and me, but in the end I think we were both satisfied. The marker looks great, and the original price given was substantially less than they wanted at the cemetery where my wife and son are buried.

This funeral home has a small parking lot across the street that holds perhaps a dozen cars. Additionally, there is a large, mostly empty, town lot less than one block away. Baran and Son funeral home, however, also believes that they own all of the parking along 119th street as well. This morning, they sent the police to bang on doors in the neighborhood and demand that people move their cars so that the funeral home could also use the street. Do you know what else would achieve this same result and be less traumatic than having the police banging down the doors of the local elderly at 8am? PUT UP A FLIPPING SIGN the night before. Just put up a sign asking people not to park. Also, you have "no parking" pylons that I have seen...those would also work. Place them in the parking spaces the night before. OR if you wanted to actually be a good representation of the Christian Soldiers that your obnoxious church bells proclaim you to be, you could try being a good neighbor, directing your guests to the city lot that is literally 2 minutes away, and not demanding ownership of the entire street. I am actually appalled that the Whiting police complied and took the time to shake down the block to demand cars be moved. What a small-town embarrassment this is all around. Shame on everyone involved. #policestateusa
