My dogs love this dog park so much ! Such a big place and literally the best dog park in the area compare to the other ones! There is also a park and big grass area next to it!

Local residents Only, why does nobody mention this till you get there.

Local residents only, if you don't live here, your not allowed in. There really should be something saying this online, drove 30mins here.

We love love love this park and are grateful for it! We got our dog the end of May and as we did our investigating about how to be good doggy parents we discovered the dog park! This is a fantastic place for many reasons...but let's talk about a few. Fenced in! My crazy dog can run wild in a closed baseball field with other dogs until her heart is content. There is no fear of her escaping or running away. Other dogs: some dogs are weird just like their owners...but the majority of the dogs are awesome! This provides our little one to socialize and wrestle and play with her friends. Other owners: we have met some incredible people through this place. And if you're a single lady....grab a dog and come! It's a modern day watering hole.... Poop scoops: dogs poop and there are tools to be able to clean it up---and someone empties the poop bin for you instead of trying to find a place to put it. Two sections: there's a section for small dogs and big dogs...the big dog side is always more fun...the small dog people tend to be a little more uptight....just like their mini poodles or barking Chihuahuas...ha! The big dog people are fun!! (Ok ok...sometimes the small ones are too) :) Cost:: Did I mention it's free?!? Bring your dog for a fun wrestling, poopin', drooling, barking and chasing time!! 33/100

'Small Dog Section' up to 25 pounds. 'All Dog Section' (no size, or weight limit). I think this is my dogs favorite dog park (out of 34 dog parks). We have gone to Schoonover Dog Park too many times to count on both sides of the dog park, at various times of the day and on different days. Overall I am pleased.....even if there are things to fix? I know from experience that they can be fixed. The bottom line is that the people and dogs are good....and the rest I can work with. The small dog side is for dogs up to 25 lbs (see sign). The other section is for "all dogs". Schoonover Dog Park has a small parking lot, a double gated system that is shared by both dog sections. It has 4 foot cyclone fencing that was connected up with an old baseball field and its fence. I saw one trash can in the small dog section, and no bags provided (people who go there bring bags and leave them). There are some pooper scooper tools, too. It has a lot of sand in the "all dog" section and lots of grass in the "small dog" section. The small dog section has lots of portable plastic chairs....and the "all dog" section appears to have bleachers from the old baseball days. Both sections are big and open with trees. The people were nice, the area is big, the grass is nice and the dog park seems to be taken care of by the people who go there. On a down side, there were holes in the fence, but I took care of some of them. As I go back I will fix more things....or figure out who fixes it so they can. Love the sand in the all dog section.....it is easy to have it fill the holes back up. They need MORE sand, they need more dirt to fill holes. The big dog side has some pretty deep, solid holes (like dogs dug them, they are often and packed hard).....be careful. These seriously need to be filled up with dirt. I have been to some 30+ dog parks and have known of dogs tripping in holes and racking up a $3000 vet bill. There should only be one gate in and out....the all dog section has two gates....one of which is a single gate which should never be the case in a dog park (should have a double gate system so dogs can't get out). I think it is high time that gets fixed like the other gates in the all dog side that HAVE been locked up. I think it has very good potential......as long as the people who go are on their game, follow the rules, pay attention to their dogs. So far so good!

Poodle and terrier mix and I give this place 5 stars!!! One big park divided into two sections. Small dogs under 25 lbs to your left and all dogs to your right. I'm not sure who runs this park but there's always water and tons of toys to the pups to play with. We are starting to be a regulars here. Our pups get excited as soon as we pull up the parking lot! Can't say enough about this place!

Big park with lots of room for the fur babies to run. There is bleachers for you to sit on and watch the dogs play. There is big jugs with water for the dogs, since there isn't any running water. And there is a couple boxes with tennis balls and frisbees for the pups to play with. Only downside is that there is little grass on the large dog side, it is mostly sand. I'm rating a four star because of the grass situation. But if there was grass it would be five star.

When is garbage pick up day, here? This reeked to high heaven of feces and garbage. Not a very welcoming sight, for sure.

I've been dog-less for 20 year, but just adopted a dog. So, we're checking out dog parks and I went here, based on the rave reviews. Was I at the right place? The place was deserted-- granted it was about noon on a Wednesday (I'm on vacation). This park is just a sandpit with dried up sparse grass (though, I get it, with the drought and all). There was a huge garbage can overflowing with stinky garbage and dog feces. I almost gagged as I had to open up the gate (uploading picture). I found the place rather depressing and obviously not very well maintained. So, we packed up and headed over to William Pachetti Dog Park...which is like paradise, compared to this sand lot. No thanks.

Cheyenne and Julie are happy and tired. Off to dreamland they go!

Unfortunately this dog park has a disproportionate number of inconsiderate owners compared to other parks in the Monterey Bay. Because of this, you'll often find people walk their dogs on the track instead of using the dog park. I usually do this unless I recognize the dogs at the park.

There is a large portion of dogs in this park which are not spayed or neutered. For the last week I've had nothing but trouble with other dogs attacking my dogs. Today I had a person upon my arrival warn me that their female was not friendly with other females. If you have to warn someone about your dog then you don't belong in a dog park. Sure enough the dog attacked one of my dogs. If your dog isn't fixed it is not a good idea to bring them to a dog park. The chances of altercations increase. I won't be going back to this park any longer. I'll drive the extra time to go to Gilroy which has a much better quality of non-aggressive dogs.

This is a beautiful area to walk your dog, and we met many dogs along the way. We found out that it's not a great place to bring a stroller because of all the tree roots. You cannot walk very far in any one direction because you will come upon a road on all sides of the area. And yet, it is still possible to lose your way because there are many paths, and they are all unnamed. Also, there are no signs to direct you. Because it's new, the fencing and tables and landscaping are all in good condition. But this park is lacking a lot. The first thing we noticed when we entered is that the gates do not latch, they are push gates. This is very unsafe as large dogs could easily push through and then let other dogs out. They are also slow closing gates which allows the dogs more time to run in and out. The park is on the corner and there is street traffic. This should be remedied immediately for the safety of all dogs using this park. Second, this park had no water available for the dogs! No water bowls, no hose or pools, not even a spigot to run water out of people who had their own receptacles with them. There is zero water available. I don't understand how a dog park gets built with no water station. The park is entirely sand and cement and while sand may possibly be better for some larger breeds joints, it is a very poor material to choose for a dog park. Sand holds in heat and can burn dogs paws on a hot day . It also holds bacteria . For us, it was noticeably messy and is definitely not good for dogs and people prone to slipping. While we were visiting the park, someone from an animal rescue dropped off about a dozen used balls and a frisbee. While that seems more like dumping to me, I hope it's an indicator that the community likes this park and that it will be used and treasured and in that spirit, I hope that they will come together to remedy some of the issues that the designers clearly did not care enough to think through or address. As aesthetically lovely as the park looks, we would definitely not bring our pup back here.
