Because it's new, the fencing and tables and landscaping are all in good condition. But this park is lacking a lot. The first thing we noticed when we entered is that the gates do not latch, they are push gates. This is very unsafe as large dogs could easily push through and then let other dogs out. They are also slow closing gates which allows the dogs more time to run in and out. The park is on the corner and there is street traffic. This should be remedied immediately for the safety of all dogs using this park. Second, this park had no water available for the dogs! No water bowls, no hose or pools, not even a spigot to run water out of people who had their own receptacles with them. There is zero water available. I don't understand how a dog park gets built with no water station. The park is entirely sand and cement and while sand may possibly be better for some larger breeds joints, it is a very poor material to choose for a dog park. Sand holds in heat and can burn dogs paws on a hot day . It also holds bacteria . For us, it was noticeably messy and is definitely not good for dogs and people prone to slipping. While we were visiting the park, someone from an animal rescue dropped off about a dozen used balls and a frisbee. While that seems more like dumping to me, I hope it's an indicator that the community likes this park and that it will be used and treasured and in that spirit, I hope that they will come together to remedy some of the issues that the designers clearly did not care enough to think through or address. As aesthetically lovely as the park looks, we would definitely not bring our pup back here.

Basically, a private park (at least BBQ/Picnic Table-wise), with all the standard bells & whistles... The rest of the park is up for grabs for visitors, though during our visit, drop-in's were relatively scarce. There's a fairly decent size field to play ball/Frisbee, or whatever... One level up from the picnic area is a full-sized basketball court. Up further is a kiddie-playground & just across the way (via a private walkway, adjacent to Archer) is another kiddie playground off Hoffman St. No porta-potty, though (another plus) as there is a fully functional & CLEAN, unisex restroom (sans paper towels, but does have a modern hand dryer). Considering you're at the top of McClellan Ave., in certain areas you can actually see Monterey Harbor from a distance (as well as feel the cool ocean breeze). Some items required securing to the table as it did get a bit windy at times. The breeze though? Brrrrrr... I used to live in this area wayyy back in the day & assumed I could get by in a short-sleeve T... Nope... After about 2 hours, I jumped in the car & took the short drive down to Lighthouse (corner of Prescott, across from Gianni's Pizza) & picked up a sweater from OTB Surf Shop. Yes, I probably could've gotten by & roughed the cold, but (subconsciously), I think I just wanted to visit the old surf shop at its newer & larger location... Ahhh, memories... All-in-all, it was fairly sufficient/adequate. Not entirely blown away, but having the VIP feel of our own personal park/bbq/picnic tables was a definite & obvious plus. Park as a whole was clean & relatively well-kept. They're literally a hop, skip & a jump away from Cannery Row as well which is another plus... Being at the top of this hill though with the typical overcast sky & chilly ocean breeze had us looking like a family of Eskimo's fairly quickly. That being said, don't forget your jackets! Biggest negative I'd say is the placement of the playground in relation to the picnic area. If you have younger kids, you'd definitely need to supervise as they'd literally be out of site/earshot. (though that's what Grandparents are for) ;-)

The newly established pollinator gardens, the mulching, and regular community clean-up events have made a world of difference. It's wonderful to see this and so many other Seaside parks being revitalized and restored for recreational use.

NO complaints about this physical park.. but…read more. terrible owners. 5-10 pound dogs getting absolutely trampled by 70+ pound dogs in the large dog section because the owners are so irresponsible. Huge sign that signs 30 LBS ONLY in the large side too.. its every single time ive come here its been so many small dogs with big dogs (and the small dogs are nipping and barking because they're scared) and the owners have no respect. Also "because of covid" everyone has VERY unsocialized dogs here. My dog has been snapped on multiple times for no reason because owners havent socialized their aggressive dogs and decide to take them to the off leash park. and he is literally the sweetest boy, he COWARDS when dogs are aggressive. again, ive been going to parks with my boy for 8 months 3 times a werk and it has always been great experiences. BUT THIS PARK only has very irresponsible owners here and i have been here around 10+ times, never had a good experience. It is disappointing because i live right down the street.
