Schooner's is a great mini-golf spot, with a few fun Maine-themed decorations including a giant lighthouse, boat, and lobster statue. The course is in great shape, and there are some fun and unique hole designs (and most holes provide an opportunity to get a hole-in-one, which is a major factor in making miniature golf more fun, in my opinion). The only two suggestions I would offer is adding more umbrellas/shade for guests who play during the day and add more fun themed obstacles to the holes themselves, rather than just having visual themed objects outside of the putting areas. In my quest to find the best mini-golf course in America (ME is the 29th state I've mini-golfed in), I would give this course an A-. Definitely would come here again if I find myself in Maine! read more

A little bit off the beaten path, but a solid mini golf course if you don't mind driving a little. They also have more flexible hours than some other courses closer to the beach, which we greatly appreciated. The course was clean and we were allowed to replay as many times as we wanted with one admission which was very kind. Some of the holes are more fun than others but you do get to adventure around a waterfall, pond, lighthouse, bridge and boat - great for pictures! They also have a nice patio for enjoying an ice cream when you're done :) Overall we had a fun time at this course, it's my second favorite in OOB! read more

We went here on vacation a few months ago on a day that finally had a break in the rain. The staff was very nice, and they took the time to have some friendly conversation. The option to bring alcohol on the course was something that definitely sets this course apart for the better. It makes it much more adult friendly and offers another layer of fun. You definitely don't have to drink to have a good time here though! The course was in amazing condition, and there were no issue with bunched up green or debris on the course that would affect the game. If you're looking for a good time for adults and kids I would definitely consider checking it out here. We'll definitely be back in the future for a rematch! read more

Very friendly guy working the counter. The course is in pretty good shape. It was sort of damp when we were there, so the greens we're playing a little slow in the shady spots. They obviously put work into keeping the place up. The bricks lining the greens were all in place and nothing looked broken. The bathrooms are clean and the putters were in good repair. I would really love to give this place 5 stars because it definitely beats all the other places around the area. It's so much cleaner and kept up much nicer by far! But the greens of the mini golf course really need some serious upkeep! AND, unfortunately, that is why you come here. To play mini golf. They actually have green masking tape over several of the holes fixing spots where the holes are in serious repair. It's what's keeping me from giving it 5 stars. The water around the huge ship is crystal clear! They actually have chemicals in it to keep it clear like a pool! It's too bad because this place is really fantastic. It can really outdo all of the other golf places nearby. FIX the greens...because this place is really a true gem. The pirates cove nearby is absolutely filthy..we went there a few weeks ago and I was truly disgusted..This place is where I will definitely be playing all my mini golf! I have been coming here forever. It is quieter and much nicer then pirates cove and far enough from the beach it isnt always packed. It is cash only. They have batting cages and ice cream as well. For you city folk, they close at 9, even on weekends which I find to be way to early and the bugs are awful so wear your bug spray! So the mini golf: It is $8 for an adult, not super cheap but could be much worse. It is a nautical theme. They have a parking lot which is unpaved and a little chaotic when they are busy. The focal point of the course is a lighthouse and 75 foot ship. Both have holes and its always fun when the decor is actually worked into to the game. They have moved things around over the years. Some holes are newer, others are in terrible need of replacement. The astro turf is missing and covered in duct tape. The other major downfall to this course is when they are busy they will start you on random holes. While nice not to wait it gets confusing. read more

Mini golf is my son's favorite thing to do. We come to old orchard every year. We will defiantly come back. Only downfall is wear sun block as there is no shade. Went here the other night and was disappointed. Originally we were going to Pirates Cove but it was extremely busy so we decided to give this place a try. I had gone a lot as a kid but hadn't been back in many years. I know they had done some renovations which it clearly needed as many of the courses had been falling a part. We went at night and the lack of lighting was horrible. We couldn't see our ball most of the time or the hole. The courses are the same as they always have been. The updating is only new greens. They should have updated the actual course. Most of the greens are flat and are just in different shapes. Also everywhere you look there are signs to not do things. Don't step on bricks and don't walk on rocks on almost every hole. Okay, we get the point. For the same price as Pirates down the road which has better holes I wouldn't waste my time or money here again. If you do go, ask about their mystery hole. They give you a free game if you get a hole in one on that hole. read more

We've always gone to the other mini golf spot near the beach (Ahoy!) and decided to try this one for a change. Should have been coming here all along. Great course. Read some older reviews about the condition of the turf but they must have updated since then because it was in very good condition. Lighthouse and ship are well done. This place is really cool. They are a very large 18 hole course and it is laid out in a nice little part of Saco right around the corner from Old Orchard Beach. The place is decorated with a nautical theme including a lighthouse and a large 75ft Ship where you actually play a hole on the ship. There is water around the back and the holes are both fun and some a real challenge but none too hard for all members of your family. There is ice cream and batting cages as well! The only bad part about the place, is that it is really buggy and we almost got eaten alive until one of the friendly staff carried around bug spray for all the players. If you go make sure to put on bug spray. The prices are moderate and it is a great time! read more

A visit to Schooner has become a tradition, at least once a summer, on a weekend trip to Maine for my husband and I. Compared to the other courses in the area it is much calmer. The holes are not the most challenging, but they are also not super easy. They require focus, but still allow you to have fun without becoming overly frustrated--we are both very competitive people. I will agree that the course needs a little work. I am still giving it 4 stars though because it is a family friendly place and fun for all ages. read more

It was drizzling when I was there, but that didn't seem to deter the large number of happy customers still playing through. Schooner sells ice cream & treats, too, and there's a pleasant little deck alongside the course. I don't live in the area, but if I did, I'd make it a point to go there on a summer night, enjoy some ice cream on the deck, and take on the course. An earlier reviewer complained that the course was poorly maintained, but I didn't find it so. There was tape in a few places, but not anywhere that affected the ball or the game play. Singularly the most unfriendly tourist attraction I have been to in years. We checked the website and it stated they were open until 10 pm. We arrived at 8 pm and the owner said to be done by 9 pm and I told him that his website stated they were open until 10 pm, he said his wife was supposed to change it. Otherwise the course was poorly lit and all the AstroTurf was worn down. None of the course has an level areas and the balls rarely stop rolling. Another family told us that when they were here on a previous visit the owner turned the lights off on them at 9:15 pm instead of 10 pm and told them to come back another date to finish. I love this place!!! I have been coming to Schooner for several years and am so impressed with all the repairs and upkeep the new owners have done since they bought the place. I have never had anything but a warm welcome and great service. I have often arrived with 15 - 20 kids from my afterschool program or our church youth group and Donna and Kevin don't even blink an eye. We have a blast everytime! Do yourself a favor next summer....get off that beaten beach track and try a game at Schooner. And save room for ice cream! read more
