I'll admit that I have a soft spot for Pentatonic Guitars on Franklin Street. I brought my…read moreboyfriend to Pentatonic when we started dating. Because he's a musician and plays guitar, I thought he would appreciate the shop. And he did. It turned out to be a successful date. However, my Yelp rating now is not totally colored by sentimentality. Pentatonic Guitars is a cool little spot on Franklin that adds to the character of the neighborhood. It's a small space packed full of unique guitars and instruments. It's not set up like Guitar Center/Sam Ash - or even Main Street Drag - to get you to buy, buy, BUY! You don't get that salesperson peer pressure. There's relaxed vibe, so you can ask questions and not feel like you're a mark. They know their stuff. If you are into guitar bodies, pickups, frets, etc., this is a good place for you!

If you're in search of a fun outing with a date or friend, look no further. I did the Single Class…read moreTryNight and it was a fun experience. This particular class is 2 hours and you get to be hands on with the clay and wheel. Class is $85/person. FYI, you will get messy, so dress accordingly. This was my first-time doing clay pottery, but the class goes through the basics quickly. Attaining mastery over crafting clay pottery won't exactly happen for first goers in this class. Some people spend decades perfecting their craft, so it made me wonder if I needed to do an intro class beforehand. Rest assured the instructor and aide are informative and helpful - they helped me several times to fix my messes. The teacher and aide were also down-to-earth and held a good sense of humor, so the vibes were enjoyable and easy-going. Towards the end, you clean up and also pick out which clay pottery you want to keep and glaze/fire. They'll call you back when your piece is ready for pick-up. I recommend folks to support this local spot!

Susan and Anthony have built a wonderful business in Treblemakers. As a professional musician and…read morecomposer, I have a fairly high standard and high expectations for the musical training of my daughter. Treblemakers has exceeded those expectations. Susan not only teaches singing; she teaches *music*. Her lessons focus on the fundamentals of musicianship while maintaining my daughter's interest with fun exercises and great song choices. All the while, Anthony runs the office with aplomb, always communicating with the parents and keeping on top of the scheduling. Our kids have been taking piano lessons with Suzan at Treblemakers for a few years. Suzan is the…read moremost amazing piano teacher, musician, and mentor. My kids love her! She creates special programs to suit the interests of the student but insists upon building core competencies such as reading music, scales, singing/comping, etc. Our friends' kids have Alexandra and love her as well. The students in the program are comfortable playing jazz, classical, pop, rock, etc. and aren't stuck in one genre. Treblemakers tailors the program to your kid's interests so you can request any song and they will work out appropriate arrangements. But don't worry - the teachers at Treblemakers all have been trained at the top music schools and have the chops to teach very difficult classical and jazz pieces as well. Most programs will not have the breadth that Treblemakers provides. (Kids can also learn a multiple instruments as well.) Suzan wrote her own method books that have great catchy tunes and they layer and layer until kids gain all the core skills including scales, chords, arpeggios, major/minor, etc. Then all of sudden the kids are really ready to play anything... Treblemakers is a family business with scheduling run by Anthony who also inspires the children, has a deep interest in the education of all students, and always makes sure the kids and parents are happy and reaching goals. We highly recommend Treblemakers and know that our kids will have the love of music and all the skills needed to enjoy playing music for the rest of their lives.
