Just yesterday I got in on their sale of Snow crab legs and my family had a great feast! Their customer service is wonderful and they are so nice every time I come in. Oh I also want to mention their house made sausages. Unbelievably good brats. I particularly like the cherry brats, the cranberry horseradish brats, and the Italian sausage. WONDROUS! So if you live in Alton please utilize this little treasure. It's family owned and it shows in how they treat the customer!

The customer service is what you'd expect from a small town market, personalized and friendly. They offer monthly meat bundles that are budget friendly. Their brats will put, Johnsonville Brats to shame and Jimmy Dean's sausage cannot hold a candle to their sausage. Proof that buying local is a good thing. Some of their brands are generic, but with today's economy that is a good thing. There are lots of single little coolers around the store, filled with perishable products. Take note of the prepared foods near the butcher counter. You'll find some delicious side dishes for those tasty brats. Another end-cap to check out, is their branded spices. They're just as good as those expensive name brand spices. If you haven't shopped the aisles of Schwegel's, I recommend you correct that ASAP. You just might become a frequent shopper.

Great little store for the health conscious featuring lots of organic choices and important…read moresupplements. I found that they carry two of my favorites - Alden's Organic Ice Cream and Prima Ancestral Protein Bars. In case you don't know, Alden's Organic is an Oregon-based brand specializing in certified organic ice cream and frozen desserts. it emphasizes high-quality, organic ingredients while avoiding artificial additives, high-fructose corn syrup, and other common conventional ice cream components. Their products use milk and cream from humanely raised cows, and many are gluten-free or offer dairy-free options. Prima Ancestral Protein Bars are animal-based protein bars designed around "ancestral" or nose-to-tail, real-food nutrition principles. They focus on grass-fed ingredients, avoiding seed oils, artificial additives, refined sugars, and ultra-processed isolates common in many protein bars. Popular options include: Cookie Dough, Salted Caramel (my favorite), Cacao, Mocha, and Mint Chip. This is (IMHO) the best protein bar one can buy. So now that I've totally convinced you on purchasing these two great (and good for your body) products, I'll continue with my review. Along with these two great finds, I purchased some Organic Brazil Nuts, Organic Sourdough Bread, and a couple of Zum Bar goats milk soap (frankincense and myrrh, tyvm). If you've never tried a Zum Bar you really should. Friendly employees and a comfortable family atmosphere store made for a very pleasant and enjoyable shopping experience. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Sometimes they have scones and granola bars too. I love the local granola, the drink selection and the in bulk items. Desperation flooded our bodies like water cascading from a broken dam until I discovered Northway Supermarket - open 24 hours and only 3 minutes away! The gods had smiled upon our plight. We got into our vehicle and made the drive through the darkened streets until we arrived at the destination. Upon exiting the car, I saw multiple individuals of questionable character milling about, entering, and exiting the store. How can you say their character was questionable, you ask? Mostly due to the content of thier speech, the rambunctious music blaring from thier cars describing criminal acts and what they like doing to women, and the manner in which they presented themselves to the outside world in physical appearance/fashion. "AHA, you can't judge a book by its cover!" you yell at me. Yes. Yes I can. Jack and I tentivally entered the building. We were the only white people in the store and everyone instantly knew it. I felt 9 pairs of eyes (so 18 individual eyes) lock onto us (there was a long line at the register) and I swear someone said "you don't belong here, little boys" (maybe that was just my self consciousness, I'm not 100% sure). We sheepishly scampered through the isles, desperately looking for milk while trying to appear as alpha males to avoid any confrontation. The store has everything and anything you'd need - from wine, beer, juice flavors nobody has ever heard of, snacks of various kinds, half-naked mannequins draped with clothes no woman should wear to a whole make-up and eye lash section. I was certainly impressed! Could they pass a state health inspection? No. Could you buy 43 different flavors of wine? Yes, yes you could. We finally found the milk and headed to the register. While we were standing in line, I glanced back at the restaraunt/deli where a giant of a cook tiredly tried to cook something. A gentleman with less than impressive dreads locked eyes with me and drew a line across his throat. Confused, I looked back and he did it again! "I'm going to get knifed over a 1/2 gallon of milk" I thought. At that moment a gangster started yelling at the cashier that he WASN'T in fact a gangster and the only reason the store was there, was because the community WANTED them there and that "You need to treat people with some f*cking decency!" The poor cashier didn't know what he did - he didn't even speak English but apperntly he was used to this kind of behavior because he just rolled his eyes as the "non-gangster" grabbed his $2 ciga-rillo and stormed off. I paid $5 dollars for a blueberry muffin and a 1/2 gallon of milk. Jack and I left the store to the sound of yelling outside (I'm pretty sure there was a dog fight going on around the corner) and jumped in my car. I drove the wrong way down a one way street back to our Air bnb. The nice Chinese lady who ran the Air bnb cooked us fried rice (we had it for lunch the next day and it was delicious) and we went to bed and then drank the milk with our cereal in the morning and I ate the blueberry muffin - both the milk and muffin were delicious and filled me to satisfaction (Jack had 2 bowls of cereal). We then went and played racquetball at a club thriving off white privilege where we got beat by middle schoolers. I am giving the 3 out of 5 stars due to the trauma I experienced inside the store of seeing the half-naked mannequins. As we drift off to sleep with the medals of the "winner of the loser brackets" around our necks, we hear the not-distant sound of gunfire and I think to myself, "This has been fun, till next time Saint Louis."

I love their meat and poultry selection in particular. The free range chicken breasts they have are the most tender and flavorful I've ever purchased! Never buying meat from Aldi again. Also, shoutout to the incredible fresh herbs they grow themselves! Although you generally have to schedule pickup a week or so out during this COVID period, City Greens' curbside shopping process is easy and felt extremely safe. You just fill out a form online, then show up to pay and pick up. You only interact with one staff members, there are no other customers during your pickup slot, and everyone is in proper PPE. I cannot wait to shop here regularly in person!
