This store is ALWAYS CLEAN. However, they are also EXPENSIVE, and the advertised prices on the shelves are different from what comes up at checkout. I have noticed that I "usually" have to pay attention to the price on the shelf vs. the checkout price. Just today, 4/18/26, I bought Mrs. Fisher's potato chips. Price on the shelf: $3.99. (GREAT DEAL - Which is specifically why I BOUGHT THEM). Price at checkout: $4.69. Customer Service was very nice (Symone). Went to check pricing, came back and said: That's for the smaller bag. My reply: Well, THIS size (1.5lb) is sitting behind the $3.99 tag. She gave me a DOLLAR back immediately. I made $.30. No need to get heated, she was wonderful, so big deal, right? My issue is NOT with her. NO. This is my most recent experience. It's happened before, and I always get a bit more in refund than what's truly the difference. However, THIS HAPPENS A LOT with Schmucks. We rarely shop there due to their being expensive, and this "price hike at checkout". Usually I have no problem with this place but today I was a little bit upset . I came in there looking for an item which I was unable to find on my own , so I decided to ask the self-checkout lady . She clearly noticed me in the front desk but she ignored me and scrolling on her phone . So I asked her my question and she just seems so bothered . She kind of gave me attitude as we as she was showing me where the item is too . I felt like I annoyed her from her phone time. i zip over since so close to me...when i don't want to drive to aldis,,,i have noticed recently the prices have come down a bit especially the blue bunny vanilla frozen yogurt which is sold no where else. i come for this especially. it's now dropped to 4.99 instead of 5.79? (ice cream cones still high). i do buy the snucks brand cheddar/sour cream chips which are cheap. and i ALWAYS buy a piece of chocolate cake for 2.99?and i always check the rake for reduced pastry. am interested in INSTACART since i'm now disabled...but don't know how much that is. will check next time i come inside but difficult. i may try the driving carts...haven't yet since embarrassing. everyone is very kind and polite read more

Store was very clean. Also has a robot that goes through the isles to check inventory, I found that very unique. However they didn't have as much as I expected. They did have a pretty decent meat selection and some pretty good deals. Not a super store but you get a decent bang for your buck. Just felt like they could have more fresh fruits and veggies. read more

I only stopped by the alcohol section of the store and I found it to be a bit better than other big box stores. I liked their selection of craft beer. The wine and spirits section looked good too. I absolutely found it hilarious that there was a display of ping pong balls and red cups right by the alcohol section. There was a section of beer right in front of that. I guess that's what you get when you're in a college town. Oh, and I enjoyed the flowers in the bathroom - gave it a nice touch. read more

I have mixed feelings about Schnuck's. They do some things very well - they sell organic produce and milk in addition to traditional; they have some interesting international cookies; they have a "healthy frozen food" section, a small organic-ish personal care section with decent prices and a store-brand organic food brand. I like their store-brand yogurt a lot and they always seem to have some kind of ice cream on sale. They have a very comprehensive pizza selection and a small fake meat section. The deli carries some interesting cheeses but I'd rather go to Whole Foods - the prices are high and the selection merely OK. Packaged cheese (block, shreds) is reasonably priced. My biggest complaint is that their baking goods aisle is very small and overpriced. I don't buy baking chocolate here, for example, and I try to avoid buying cocoa here. And I am bewildered that a store that has so many brands of pizza - even brands like Annie's - doesn't carry a vegetarian frozen lasagna. (They carry exactly one kind of frozen lasagna.) Their organic milk prices aren't very good either. Still, while I may complain about the place, I usually spend at least $60-$70 here. Other than the baking goods, which really are pathetic, it's not a bad general purpose grocery. Warning: the plastic sacks they put your groceries in are ultra-thin; bring your own bags. The very first time I came here one of the bags broke in the parking lot. Also make sure the cashier applies your coupons; I've had them missed at least once. read more

This store has gone down hill so much in the past few years. With the Covid 19 changes they have the entrance closest to the handicapped parking blocked. No rideable carts anywhere in site. The shelves are poorly stocked, even items that in stock everywhere else are non existent. Also the pharmacy is closing. I won't be shopping here again!!! read more

I went to Schnucks and got corn on the cob and when I broke it in half a humongous caterpillar fell out of it and when I called them they act like they were putting me on hold and hung up and also they are overprice, way too overpriced read more

Schnuck's has a nice produce section. The other two groceries in town can't compare to their selection of produce. I do NOT buy dairy here. I don't believe it is kept cold enough because it seems to spoil very, very fast. If I buy dairy from Wal-Mart or Jewel I never have this problem. I'm also careful to check the sell by date on every item that I put into my cart. They're notorious for having outdated items still on the shelves. read more

Paid ribeye price for steaks in butcher shop labeled as ribeyes. Definitely not ribeye, maybe strip steak or some other cheap cut of beef. Worst steak I ever had, dry, gristly and tasteless. I eat ribeyes a lot from Sams, Costco, Jewel, butcher shop so I know ribeyes taste and texture. These were not ribeyes and I will never buy meat again from Schnucks, if I even shop there again. I noticed there were no pre=packaged ribeyes and only two left in the butcher case so I am thinking they just put whatever in the designated spot for ribeyes and were out of cut ribeye. read more

I found out about this place through the NIU campus newspaper. Very close to campus with a nice selection of produce and meats. Pricing is similar to a Jewel Osco and the sales are really great! read more

I have been shopping at this store since it opened in my neighborhood years ago. At first I thought the prices were a little high based on shopping at Walmart for so long. However, it did not take long to figure out "how" to shop there. Looking for sales, stocking up, and knowing what brands are decent (the Schnucks brand is comparable to name brands) all allowed me to feed my family in both lean times and in better times. The produce is fresh and well displayed. The meat section has a lot of selections and at times some seriously great sales. The deli counter has fantastic fried chicken and side dishes as well as cold cuts and cheeses. The beer and wine department are well stocked. I literally only shop at Schnucks now. However, I do have one complaint. In the most recent redesign the cheeses were split up and are now located in 5 different areas of the store (including the deli). Finally, the very best quality of this store is the employees. In all the time I have shopped there I have never had a bad experience or rude service. That is a rare quality in a store and that is the best reason to shop there. read more

They have a really good meat and produce section. When you walk in there is a sale section or 10/10 and you can grab some odds and ends. I think Schnucks can be pricey but if you shop the paper they always have deals on something and you save the gas/trip to Walmart. read more

On more than one occasion I have found expired food in the produce, dairy and meat departments.

I like Schnucks a lot better than Jewel, but I only go here when necessary. Their prices tend to be way too high, especially their produce. True, the produce department is lovely, but I'm not interested in paying $6 for a bag of salad so they can have teak flooring under the bananas. They do have a decent natural food section and they do carry several vegan ice creams, which is appreciated. Service is always friendly. I won't do all my shopping here, but in a pinch it'll do! read more

Wow.. Where can I start with this one.. I had herd this place was great. Good Prices, Food Quality, Selection.. Its all wrong. I went in this place and its not cheap at all. I was shocked to see 12 dollar box of Trojan latex condoms (5.49 at walmart). I am guessing that this store is either owned by some ultra conservative religious folk, or they are just gouging the price of condoms because its 1/2 mile from the NIU dorms. Their food selection is OK, but again, Walmart is taking over the world. Walmart is just a fresh and unless you need something out of the ordinary, its not worth it to buy here. This is a classy chain out of St. Louis. With Brown's closing in Sycamore, Schnuck's has the best packaged meat selection in the area and often have great sales. Still, I have to shop. Meat and produce at Schnuck's, but there are a lot of other high priced items. Select canned and dry goods, and some dairy at Wal-Mart but absolutely no meat or produce. Produce, deli, bakery and frozen pizza at Hy-Vee. Meat case looks good at HV but packaged is weak. I make a Saturday morning of errands. read more
