My sister and I were staying over in Vienna for a night, and our hotel was close by. We originally…read morewanted to go somewhere else but it was closed. So while walking back to our hotel, we decided to stop into Schilling for dinner.
It's a little bit more expensive than the other pubs on the street, but a little bit nicer as well. We were only one of two tables. There were a lot of other younger people at their sister restaurant right next door. We sat down and the waitress brought us translated menus in English, which was super helpful in deciding what to eat.
My sister got the beef soup with 2 dumplings. It came with some large slices of carrots. The soup was light and delicious. I loved the combination with the carrots. I've never had Viennese food, but that was some good soup.
I ordered the schnitzel and mixed for about 16.50 Euro. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but the portions were huge. I couldn't finish the schnitzel. The mixed salad was good. It had carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, and sauerkraut. It had good flavor to it and I finished most of it. My sister ordered the beef goulash that came with potatoes. It was a pretty large portion as well that she couldn't quite finish it.
I had to try the rolled pancake with apricot jam for dessert. You could order it with hot chocolate instead of jam as well. It was fresh made, warm, and covered in powdered sugar. It melted in my mouth. That apricot jam was heaven. Even though I was full, I ate most of it. It was that good.
I didn't mind this place at all. They have free wifi for 180 minutes as well! I was a little surprised to learn they didn't take card, only Euros. Especially since their food isn't that cheap. If I'm ever in the area again, I wouldn't mind going back for that rolled pancake!
