There have been hiccups along the way but Adam and Sam and Jim have been nothing short of amazing to myself and staff. While there have been a lot of calls for service (not because of their workmanship) they have always been responsive and kind and upbeat when they arrive and fix our issues. Thank you so much Colley!

Colley Elevator has been our building's elevator specialists for years, handling maintenance,…read morereworking and buffering the pumping system, and responding promptly and effectively to emergency calls. The removal and replacement of the piston was wisely planned in advance and the part pre-ordered for custom manufacture. Colley's technicians neatly mustered their tools and materials, protected the carpeting, safely blocked the work area, and gave a progress report. The elevator inspection was also wisely planned. Fortunately, there were no problems with the pit or the piston hole, and this could only be verified once the crew was down there and extracting the old piston in sections. The happy result was the elevator was back in service well before the best-case estimated completion date! Thank you, Colley Elevator!!!

Unresolved Property Loss and Lack of Communication…read more I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Honest Junk Company and Chicago Furniture Bank. On July 11, 2026, an Honest Junk employee came to my home for a scheduled furniture pickup arranged through Chicago Furniture Bank. My 13-inch MacBook Pro was sitting on my portable desk immediately before the crew arrived. The desk was not authorized for pickup. My home surveillance footage shows the employee carrying that desk out of my home. He was also carrying a clipboard with an object behind it that appears consistent with the size and shape of my MacBook. The footage then shows him placing the desk onto the Honest Junk truck. Additional footage shows the same employee handling dresser drawers before leaving. After the pickup, my MacBook was missing. I reported the issue on July 14 and provided surveillance footage, Apple Find My information, documentation, and a detailed timeline. On July 20, Chicago Furniture Bank's VP of Finance & Operations told me I would receive an update by the following day. I followed up on July 21. On July 29, after still not having a resolution, I submitted a formal written request documenting the incident and requesting approximately $2,600 to replace my business computer. I was initially offered $500 and later $1,000. On August 25, my attorney formally contacted Chicago Furniture Bank regarding the matter. As of September 14, I still have not received a resolution following my attorney's communication. I have been informed that the employee involved is no longer employed by Honest Junk Company. While I acknowledge that action, terminating an employee does not resolve the property loss or replace the computer. This was not simply a personal laptop. I am the Founder and CEO of The Sailor Justice Project, a grant consulting firm, and the MacBook was my primary business computer. Its loss disrupted my ability to serve nonprofit clients, including work on a $790,000 federal grant proposal for another nonprofit. What is most disappointing is that I chose this organization because I believed in its mission and wanted my grandparents' belongings to continue serving the community. I tried repeatedly to resolve this privately and professionally before involving an attorney. I am leaving this review because consumers and community members deserve to know not only what happens when a service goes wrong, but how an organization responds afterward. I would not recommend using this service until this matter is resolved and the organizations demonstrate that they will take responsibility when property is lost during a pickup.

I love old houses and radiant heat. You know- the kind of heat that is constant without out all…read morethe blowing of hot and cold that forced air heating and cooling gives you. Radiant heat (from radiators or from heated floors) keeps you warm and makes your home cozier because of it. But no one likes the looks of those old radiators. Many have been painted over the years and with the heat are now peeling and they are eye sores in your more formal rooms. Oh sure- you can push your furniture in front of it- but a custom made radiator cover will go a long way in making your radiator less of an eye sore. Enter Barker Metalcraft. Barker will custom design metal radiator covers for your home. Metal is better than the old wood covers as it helps to disperse the heat and they can also be designed to have a humidifier pan installed in the top so you can add water through an access panel, and keep your home comfortable throughout the winter months. I have used Barker for all my old homes over the years as well as my rental properties. They are quick, reasonably priced and will ship where ever you need them to. With the choice of grill patterns, colors, etc, you can be sure to create covers that will add to the elegance of your old house. Give Ron and the team at Barker Metalcraft the opportunity to bid on your next old home project, I think you'll be happy that you did!
