A busy travel day from Basel to Luzern. So after checking in I was asking the desk associate where a nice place to have a cocktail and a nice meal would be. She recommended the Schiff. A short walk across the famous Chapel Bridge. An old wooden bridge lined with art from the 1300's. I should have done a Yelp check in walking across it but forgot. Lol Schiff sits right on the Reuss River which empties into Lake Luzern. A beautiful setting with a stunning view of the Swiss Alps for a backdrop. The service was excellent. I think they can tell if you're a tourist right away and take pride explaining the menu. The Ham & cheese quiche with a nice fresh salad was delicious and delightful. It was lite and so flavorful and the Turkey escalope piccata with spaghetti, zucchini was a tender cutlet and the spaghetti with zucchini was fresh tasty. A delicious meal with a picturesque setting made this a delightful experience. read more

Oh my. One of the best meals in our European vacation. Loved eating outside on the walkway by the riverside at sunset. Had a great waiter who helped us. Got the cheese Fondue and the beef cheeks, meatballs and vol au vant but the winner was the pork belly. read more

Schiff is a restaurant in Lucerne, Switzerland. The restaurant was along the area where the Reuss River passes through the Needle Dam. They have indoor and outdoor seating (overlooking the river and dam) but it was too cold for us to sit outside. My wife and I got a table inside with our two small dogs. My wife got a pork belly dish and I got a breaded pork sandwich (plus I ate some of my wife's pork belly). The food and service was pretty good. As kind of a touristy place by the river, the restaurant seemed to attract a bunch of tourists and was busy, but I had a good experience. read more

I was very pleased to stop by Schiff after a whole day of traveling. We were one of their last customers, however they were happy to host us. I was unsure where even start while looking at the menu and the waiter gave me a great recommendation. If I ever go back to Luzern, I will definitely stop by. One star is far too generous for the appalling service we experienced. We visited on 15 September 2025 at 5:35 PM, and what should have been a pleasant evening by the river turned into an exercise in frustration. The staff--three waiters (a young man, an older man, and one particularly rude woman)--were unprofessional, inattentive, and outright dismissive. The problems started immediately. We waited in the designated "wait to be seated" area, only to be told by the young waiter that we could sit anywhere--but not at a four-seat table. That would have been acceptable if we hadn't watched several couples sit at four-seat riverfront tables without issue. Already, the inconsistency and arbitrariness of the rules raised red flags. Once seated, we waited nearly 20 minutes without a single acknowledgment. No menus, no water, no "we'll be right with you." Nothing. The staff were right there: the female waiter stood chatting with a colleague for over 15 minutes, completely ignoring customers, while the older waiter brushed us off with "one moment" before disappearing entirely. When we finally approached the staff ourselves to ask for an English menu, the rude female waiter snapped back with: "Here in Switzerland we have our time." This was not only dismissive but insulting. We were on vacation, and our time is valuable--we were not demanding special treatment, just the basic courtesy of service during working hours. Her tone made it abundantly clear: customers were seen as an annoyance, not as guests. There was no apology. No attempt to make things right. Just arrogance and contempt. As someone who works in the service industry myself, I know one thing: the customer is always right--or at least deserves respect. What we witnessed was the exact opposite. We walked out before ordering. And honestly, I'm relieved. If the service is this disgraceful, I have no confidence the kitchen holds higher standards. Bottom line: this place doesn't deserve your time, money, or patience. Until management trains its staff--particularly that rude and unprofessional waitress--on the basics of hospitality, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone. Terwijl het personeel vlakbij was: de vrouwelijke ober stond meer dan 15 minuten met een collega te praten en negeerde alle gasten volledig, terwijl de oudere ober ons kort afwimpelde met "momentje" en vervolgens volledig verdween. Toen we uiteindelijk zelf naar het personeel liepen om een Engelstalig menu te vragen, beet de onbeschofte serveerster ons toe: "Hier in Zwitserland hebben wij onze tijd." Dit was niet alleen neerbuigend, maar ook beledigend. Wij waren op vakantie, onze tijd is kostbaar. We vroegen geen voorkeursbehandeling, alleen de basisbeleefdheid van service tijdens werktijd. Haar toon maakte duidelijk dat klanten hier eerder als last worden gezien dan als gasten. Geen excuses. Geen poging om het goed te maken. Alleen arrogantie en minachting. Als iemand die zelf in de dienstverlenende sector werkt, weet ik één ding zeker: de klant heeft altijd gelijk--of verdient op zijn minst respect. Wat wij hier meemaakten, was precies het tegenovergestelde. We zijn vertrokken voordat we iets konden bestellen. Achteraf ben ik opgelucht. Als de service zó beneden alle peil is, heb ik weinig vertrouwen dat de keuken betere standaarden hanteert. Conclusie: dit restaurant is uw tijd, geld en geduld niet waard. Dinner was excellent. Very good food and excellent service. The mushroom soup was an A++.

We had an excellent meal in a cozy indoor setting (very small so if you want to eat indoors make a reservation during busy seasons) We had fondue and fried chicken with French fries. The chicken was very lightly fried (not a heavy crust) and the fries with the dipping sauce delicious. So was the Apple fritter. read more

I think this has been one of our best restaurants in Switzerland since being here mid May to end of May. Service is outstanding, ambiance was perfect. We sat on the terrace overlooking the walkway and river. You have to get to this entrance via back walkway Brandgässli. I had the crispy pork belly, veg and herb butter with fries and a glass of white merlot (first time for me) and hubby had homemade pork sausage with roasted potatoes. Sauces were amazing. This happens to be our favorite places in Luzern. Please stop by and try our favorite on the water. If you have the chance to get the balcony you won't regret it. It also a great place to people watch as well. The crispy pork was the best we've had. And we had it from the USA to the EU. We also had the Pork sausage and potatoes. Those were outstanding too. Now on to desert, we ordered the Warm Apple Fritters with Cinnamon sugar and our fav chocolate cream. Sorry no pics from the mains, we were so hungry. I'm sure you get it. read more

We ordered 1 fondue for 4 people as an appetizer. The waited delivered two. We thought he had split the order so we ate the dinner. We got billed for four dinners but the manager eventually settled the bill for two. Very misleading and disappointing. read more

The service was horrible. All but one staff member was curt. Our waiter was smug, kept telling us that "food and service was good, yes?". If you have to ask that many times you must know the honest answer. We politely nodded because we weren't in the mood to disrupt our meal. To add insult to injury he told us that tip was not included and told us that the standard was 10%. (We learned later that a service charge had been added already.) So he mislead us. We are from the US where we tip much more. Because he said that and because of the quality of service, we tipped just under 10. We left feeling yucky. The food was nothing special. We wanted to have fondue in Switzerland and we got it but I would go elsewhere. It was a tourist trap with a view blocked by other tourists. read more

Many restaurants in Luzern are closed Monday night! Our host brought us to several other restaurants that all turned out to be closed! I am exceedingly glad they were closed and we happened upon this restaurant. Luzern it seems has a big 'cheese fondue' culture, of which we are not at all interested. The woman who greeted us let us know up front they have no fondue. The tables are beautifully set with wine and water glasses, silverware, bread plates and knives, cloth napkins in heavy rings as well as candelabras. A large coat rack with hangers is located at the door and the staff assisted us removing our coats and hanging them up. Somehow, we all settled on either pork chop, steak or boar. Once we ordered, our silverware was switched out to steak knives and wood handled forks. Bread baskets with multiple types of bread and three types of toppings, herbed oil, butter and spice mix, were distributed along our table. All of the bread selections were soft, moist and tasty. The steaks and chops are served with three house sauces. Every one of our group raved about the food. And most of these folks are from Oklahoma - beef country. The service is impeccable. When our wine glasses were low, they were refilled from the bottle we ordered. Our tap water carafes were continually filled as needed. The bread and toppings replenished. The staff had no problem separating the check into several parts. They helped us on with our coats and everyone left completely satisfied. Although it may be a bit hard to find, under a portico and up a flight of stairs, if you are looking for very good food in Lucerne, look no further. read more

A lot of restaurants in Lucerne tend to either close very early, or will only take large group reservations. My wife and I found Schiff after searching for somewhere to eat for while and were not disappointed. We ended up ordering the Fondue meal for two and the Fondue was the best we've ever had! The only negative I can say is the service was a bit slow. At one point we asked for still water, and ended up waiting for something like 15 minutes for it. Overall, I'd recommend giving this place a try read more
