Nightmare experience with Schede Plumbing Schede did some work on my house. The major items were: 1. Fix HVAC ducts 2. Remodel bathroom, rearrange plumbing and install new tub, new toilet and sinks 3. Install half bath in basement 4. Install antique outdoor shower The project began in June 2024 and was supposed to be completed by October 15th. It is now Spring 2025. From items above: 1. They were asked to fix HVAC, make it more efficient, we had asked them to install an air recycling unit, but they said that was not necessary. They insisted on adding a secondary return to my basement. When spring came in 2025, my HVAC installer told me that shede had incorrectly added a secondary return, which causes too much cold air to flow back into the system, causing the line to freeze. No plumber would've added a secondary return in a basement. 2. They finally got their act together in November. I called Nick Schede to complain. We found blue tape stuffed down the drain of the tub and all of the showerheads were broken. They didn't replace pressure valves previously installed. Everything they installed was loose on the wall. Bathtub needed to be resealed and the drain repositioned. They installed the sink hardware upside down and backwards. 3. When they installed the half bath, they caused a Uline to backflow on a freezing day which sent septic back up out through a vent near the front door of our house, causing waste water to pool and freeze right outside our front door. It also flooded our basement with sewage water. They said they would help and repair this problem, they never did, they left a mess. They said they would get me a quote for the repair, but they never did. During this time they put so much stress on my septic that it broke the septic pump and I had to have a new one installed. Every Plumber says that this is totally normal to prevent backflow on older houses. 4. I asked them to install an antique shower at a specific height to avoid contact with the eyes, and they purposely put it at my eye height. "deal with it". They gouged the outdoor shower with their tools and caused lots of scrapes and scratches on a shower from the 1800s. All of their plumbers were extremely rude, and they all made comments about me behind my back. My Electrician and other handymen on the job that I've known for quite awhile, had said that the plumbers from Schede were talking trash specifically about me all the time when they were on the job. One guy went as far as to say " I could care less if we get one star reviews, screw this guy". Other plumbers from Schede said worse things. When the holidays began to get close, I had to call Nick from Schede. When we spoke, he was rude and dismissive. I told him that they were supposed to finish in October and they complained that it wasn't their fault, but it clearly was their fault. They destroyed things and sabotaged my plumbing and HVAC. One of the things Nick complained about was that there's no supply store near my house. One of the biggest plumbing supply companies Inter County Supply is located in Bedford Hills, 10 minutes away. They said that they would go to their supply house which was 30 to 45 minutes away, so this is clearly a lie. Also, there's a plumbing supply in Elmsford and Thornwood, which is only 15 and 8 minutes away respectively. I have known a local plumber for nearly 40 years and when I called them to look over the stuff that Schede had done, they asked me if Schede was licensed because it looks like they are not based on their work. We were not able to use parts of our bathroom until Spring 2025 because of Schede. Our HVAC system still does not work because of what Schede did. I cannot stress enough the poor quality of work and the unprofessionalism of all of their plumbers, HVAC guys and Nick Schede. The lies and complaints were just ridiculous. I would avoid this company at all costs. They would send two guys to do a one-man job every time. Overcharging and rude does not make for good business. Schede? More like Sh**ty read more

After searching for a reliable plumbing company for some time, I was referred by a friend to Schede P&H. They have now done multiple jobs for us including replacing our kitchen faucet and replacing/winterizing our outdoor water spigots. Terrible service - do not answer the phone ever despite numerous calls and waiting many weeks just to schedule a service

We had an unfortunate occurrence on Friday night, April 19, 2024. I water detector we had purchased for our basement and place near the hot water heater began to go off at 3 am, waking my wife and I out of a sound sleep. Once we figured out what it was (our hot water heater which had been installed in 2004 was leaking). Now the water heater was still stable but we had no idea for how long that might last ( we had visions of a flooded basement with the water still streaming into the basement) so we followed what directions we had ( I think we googled it) and manage to shut off the gas and the water to the hot water heater. Well, obviously the pilot light went out and by morning we had no hot water and couldn['t figure ouot how to re-light the pilot light. So, after perusing a few names on the locasl internet, we called Schede Plumbing and told our story. The service desk said we would get a call back and took our information. We almost immediately got a text from Lou Schede, 4th generation owner of Schede Plumbing who asked me to send a couple of pictures of the hot water heater via my iphone by texting him back. Soon thereafter he was texting and calling us to say he concluded that the water heater appeared to be stable but I said it had been installed in 2004 and Lou agreed it should be looked at more carefully. Then he tried to explain to us how to get the pilot light turned back on after turning off the gas cut off and reigniting the pilot light, saying he could have a new relacement tank available for installation as soon as Monday. But we couldn't get the pilot light to reignite. So Lou, in Lou fashion, drove out to our house on a Saturday morning and reignited our pilot light ofr us, giving us back hot water for a day and a half (we were going to have a new water heater installed on Monday anyway but Lou felt we shouldn't have to go without hot water for the balance of the weekend). So we called early Monday morining, or texted him late Sunday night, I forget, and by 8:30am on Monday morning we had a new water heater dropped off by one of Schede Plumbing's teamm and 15 minutes later, an installation team of two showed up and worked tirelessly for the next four and a half hours draining the water out of the old tank, removing the old tank, installing the new tank, attaching an automatic shutoff sensor which would stop the water flow if the unit began to leak and explaining the whole system to us. by 12:30pm, just in time for my scheduled appointment with my eye doctor, our new water hearter was up and running. These guys really knew what they were doing and had a family owner who actually cared. Pretty cool. read more

I needed to schedule a dishwasher installation and valve replacement in a condo- the lady who answered the phone was polite and friendly, provided all required documents to the condo management promptly. I ended up hiring company after I shopped around for my Boiler, burner and Indirect hot water tank replacement need. I extensively researched prices and companies in my area. Lou the owner returned my call on a weekend in case there was any emergency. After he only asked to send him photos and videos. And instantly gave me quote for two scenarios (Which btw he honored all the way). This was stark difference from other companies who had to set an appointment to come measure my house with expensive equipment or software (Which size and BTU output I needed I already knew). And tried to upsell me something I didn't really ask for. Schede beat others on price which was most important to me in addition to reviews. After I picked them company clearly communicated when Job will start and were very punctual. David and Guy (I didn't catch name) where very punctual - cleaned after, daily. Clark and Enfi (I hope I spelled the name right) joined them the next day. Also very punctual and professional - all worked with minimally disturbing my day, as I had to work from home. And Job taking one extra day, they did it, leaving everything clean. Explained me and gave advice on maintenance and tune up. I'm not a professional in this area but what they installed looks good after years of watching my rusty boiler and Tank started leaking ;-). Pretty much rebuild everything with new pipes and motor pumps. I hands down will recommend company without any hesitation. Definitely shop around. But have no doubts Schede will do the Job as well if not better than others with great quality to price ratio. read more

These folks provide first-class service. I have used them several times for basic plumbing jobs at my condo and have always been satisfied.

Schede was called to come to my house last week to investigate why one of my heat zones was not operating. They had recently installed a 4 zone oil burner so everything should have worked. The technician mike started by checking the control panel in the basement. The panel had power. He then checked the thermostat for power. The thermostat works because we used it all summer for air conditioning. Yet he tells me it's bad. So he goes to his truck and gets a new one and installs it drilling new holes into our Venetian Plaster walls and then tells me it's not the thermostat Bc the new one doesn't work either. So now new holes and no thermostat since he takes the new one off the wall. After all of this he diagnosed my problem and said the wiring was bad and needed replacement. Call an electrician. I said can't you fix this? Temps were dropping into the teens. "You can't leave me without heat!" I said. He tells me nothing he can do. He is not an electrician. And says you have bad wires. I then suggested why don't you jump the bad handler with the good one so that I would have heat. He says great idea and does so. He then gives me a bill for $154.00 after doing little to fix my problem. I end up calling another heating company and they come out and locate a loose connection. Problem fixed. So now I have paid two bills but fortunately saved running new wires through my house for no reason. The Schede service guys are mediocre and spotty. I asked for a refund from the owner today and he has not returned my message. I should not have to pay someone else to fix something their tech was not qualified to find and repair. Very unhappy with lack of response. Btw, the new furnace job was just under $9,000 last April. You'd think I would get a response. read more

We had a great experience with Schede Plumbing & Heating! We were looking for someone to replace our AC filters and ispect the HVAC system for the season. The company was very responsive and was able to give us an appointment within a week. The technician, Randy, did a fantastic job - he called on the day of the job to give us a specific ETA, arrived promptly, replaced the filters and did a very thorough check of our HVAC system. When we mentioned an issue with the airflow in one of the rooms, Randy was able to troubleshoot the problem and helped us remove the extra insulation foam over the airvent that was restricting the airflow. In addition, he also checked out the condensers outside to make sure everything was in order. We will definitely be using the company in the future! read more

I am very shocked that how rude the people there could be. I called few weeks ago and was told that they could come to do an estimate for us. One week before the appointment I called them to confirm and I tried to explain what I was told last time and the person said"I don't care what you were told.?????!!!!!!!" They are courteous on the phone, always accommodating and come when promised. Most recently I had two faucets leaking badly in my kitchen. We hired Schede Plumbing to clear the tub drain in our condo unit in Stamford on May 29, 2012. Schede sent a subcontractor who proceeded to snake the drain. It turns out that the snake broke through the pipe. Eventually, water leaked into the two units below us and into the parking garage. The condo association billed us $1,170 for the resulting damage. Schede refused to accept any responsibility for its costly mistake. To add insult to injury, Schede cashed our check for $290 for "services' rendered even though the drain that we hired it to clear remained clogged (another plumber had to be hired to clear the clog). To review: 1. it cost us $1,460 NOT to clear a clogged drain 2. Schede has refused to accept any responsibility for its mistake 3. As a first time home owner Schede plumbing has been very responsive and professional. Schede plumbing oversaw the oil to gas conversion and installed a new boiler. As stressful as this was and every other plumbing issue in our home, Lou has always answered our calls even after hours to troubleshoot what could be going wrong. If we can't fix the issue over the phone there is someone at our home the next day. His staff, specifically, Kelroy have nothing been short of exceptional. Kelroy always comes to our home with a smile on his face and will not leave till the problem is fixed. Plumbing and heating is the last thing any homeowner wants to deal with but Schede and Kelroy make it an easier pill to swallow. read more

We called Schede Plumbing to fix a draining problem with our washing machine. They sent somebody over the next morning who cleared a filter in a water pump and ran a snake through a hose. Whole process took about 30 minutes and appeared very simple. Job well done. Great. Charge: $235, due immediately! Okay, it was steep, unexpected and inflexible, but I gave him my credit card number and it was done. Shortly after the plumber left I noticed the heater in the same area as the washing machine was blowing out cold air. I couldn't imagine the connection. Did he flip a switch somewhere? What did this guy do? I couldn't figure it out. We had never had a problem with the heater before. The fact that it broke down at the exact time the plumber was there was unlikely just a coincidence. Before I could call Schede about this, Vivian Schede, the co-owner was calling me to say my credit card was declined. Funds were available so I called the bank. The bank said she was entering the expiration date and/or the security code in wrong. She denied this, but then called me back to say the card went through. Okay, again, problem solved. While on the phone about the credit card, I mentioned to her the fact there is no heat in half the house and I need help. She said she would send somebody over. Hours later, nobody and no call. I called her again, but she was no longer reachable by phone. Several calls went unanswered. Her husband called me back in the evening and said somebody could come in 3 days. That was unacceptable, as they are likely the cause of the problem, and we had no heat in the dead of winter. Soon, they vanished. Wouldn't answer the phone. Never called back. Here's why I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SCHEDE PLUMBING: (1) Excessively High Pricing: $235 for a very basic, simple job was a robbery. (2) Greedy: when she claimed my credit card was declined, Vivian Schede was very proactive in calling me to get the problem resolved. She was in a big rush to get paid. But when confronted with a problem possibly created by one of her workers that needed immediate resolution, she couldn't care less. (3) Dishonest: I spent all day Friday waiting for the heating guy to come by, because Schede told me they would. Nobody ever showed up. In the evening I got a call from her husband who said they were too "busy". (Not too busy to get paid, though). (4) Unprofessional: A professional operation would have at least called during the day to say they can't help, thus giving me the chance to call somebody else before the weekend. A professional operation would have made it a priority to check why the heat went down on a Friday in the dead of winter at the exact time their plumber was at the house. read more

I called them to come over to fix a faucet that was dripping a good amount of water steadily. We were going away the next day and didn't want to leave it dripping that whole time. They came out and spent a grand total of 15 minutes at the house with my wife, and told her we needed a new part for the faucet, and it would be about 2-3 hrs of work to install the part. They then showed her where the ater shutoff valve was, collected their $125 minimum charge, and left. When I came home, the faucet was still leaking terribly, I went online to the manufacturer's website, found a link for how to clean the valve, and spent 15 minutes cleaning it and then putting it back on. The leak COMPLETELY stopped and has not leaked a drop since then (2 weeks ago). I called them up and the owner called me back. After talking to me like a 3-yr old and explaining his 30-yrs of experience, he couldn'r grasp the fact that for $125 his plumber should have attempted to ACTUALLY FIX THE LEAK. If they told us we still needed a new part to make sure it was a permanent solution, I have no problem with that. But to walk in, not even take off the fixture to inspect it, tell us we need a new part (which by the way they said would cost us about $250-300 to install), and then leave, is the definition of lazy, poor work and serice. The owner also told me that if they came in and "cleaned the thing off and told us it was fixed" that we would think they were crazy. BUT THEY DID NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO FIX IT in the first place. I have no doubt they also took advantage of the fact that it was just my wife home, and had I been there I would not have accepted that lack of effort on their part. She was managing taking care of 2 newborns at the time so it's not her fault, the least they could have done was spent 15 minutes trying to get it fixed. What might be the WORST part about it...the owner acted like he was doing me a favor by offering to take $25 off of the NEXT service they came back to do at our house. Nice consolation? It would be, unless you know that anybody can go on their website and print out a $25 dollar coupon for service. So he offered me as a "concession" the same exact coupon they put on their website for everyone. THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE I have experienced dealing with a local tradesman. I honestly will be calling Roto Rooter next time and strongly advise NOT TO USE THIS COMPANY. read more

I had the misfortune of going with Schede and got ripped off. The office quoted $175/hr. When they showed up, they charged hourly and then almost a 100% mark up for a part. That's double what everyone charges. When I questioned the enormous bill for a 20 minute job, the owner said he has to make a profit. So, a $285 part in his view of how the business should be run, became a $575. He shamelessly took advantage of me not having water. If you want to get ripped of, get treated with disdain and disrespect, and have someone lie to you about their supposed warranty, then you can go with them. read more

The drain in our kitchen sink was no longer connected to the drain pipe, because it had come loose over time. A woman at Schede said it was going to be $125 for the service call, which included the first hour, plus materials. The plumber fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes and replaced two small plastic gaskets. We needed two plastic gaskets ($3 each at homedepot) and some calking ($5 for an entire can at homedepot). They gave us a bill for $220 for 30 minutes (tops) of work and two plastic gaskets. We complained, of course, and they charged us $150, $125 for the service call and $25 for the gaskets, which we paid just to get them out of the house. First time and last time we will call them for plumbing. I can only imagine what they would try to charge if we had a real problem. Big thumbs down! read more

I have mixed feelings about Schede Plumbing. They did a good job and were reliable. The problem is that they will likely try to overcharge you for their work. It seems like they try to charge as much as they can get away with and do not disclose huge "hidden" costs. I needed a replacement of a garbage disposal. They quoted me about an hour of work at $125 per hour plus $90 for new disposal. It was about $10 more than amazon so I agreed for them to do everything to make things simple. So I expected to pay about $215 plus tax. The work took less than 50 minutes and I was presented with a bill for $495! When I questioned the bill because it was more than double of what I expected, they told me that they also charged 1 hour for driving time (Stamford to Stamford) and have additional 20% mark up on the disposal. Even with these fees the numbers still didn't add up. Then the guy that was actually doing the work figured that they're trying to charge me for a different garbage disposal that costs a lot more. After that the owner Louis told me "Just give me $350 and we're done". They tried to make me feel bad as if I didn't want to pay them for the work. After 15 very stressful minutes and a couple of phone calls, the last words that the owner told me were "OK, pay me what we originally agreed to and never call me again". This is not a unique experience because after I told a neighbor of mine about what happened, he told me that he had had the same experience with Schede Plumbing a couple of years earlier and swore to never use them again. read more

We had a catastrophic leak in an upstairs shower that was sending large amounts of water into the wall and the downstairs ceiling. Lou is extremely professional and took the time to carefully explain what were the likely causes. As I don't have any expertise in this area, he was very patient to explain each detail repeatedly and even came out himself to inspect. We had to open up the drywall downstairs and replace the lower 2 feet of tile, concrete foundation, and pan liner for a natural stone shower. Needless to say, this was not going to be cheap. However, as this loss qualified for a claim on my homeowners insurance, it provided an excellent test of Lou's assessment and pricing that he quoted as the insurance adjuster also made a detailed inspection and of course, had every incentive to make sure they did not overpay for the repairs. Lou's initial assessment was spot-on according to the insurance adjuster and the amount they would allow for the repairs ($4000+) was almost exactly what Lou had initially quoted me. Although the shower door that was remounted has a slight alignment issue, we're satisfied overall with the quality of the repairs for the shower (especially the match on the stone) as well as the drywall that they took out downstairs. Not only would I use Schede Plumbing again, I actually just placed a call to Lou a few minutes ago for a problem with our ejector pump in the basement - so I'm now a repeat customer. read more

I hired this company for two pieces of work. Both times the plumbers who came were extremely courteous and professional in their manner, but that's where the positives stop. The first piece of work involved replacing a shutoff valve under my sink. The second piece involved running hook-ups for a washer - to connect to pipes under the sink where the shutoff valve was. Not only was the job drastically underquoted (the cost at the end was twice their estimate!!) but the second plumber said he could not complete hooking up the new pipes to the water source since the shutoff valve (installed by their company a few weeks previous) was not properly installed. I immediately called the company and they said no problem I would just need a building shutoff and they would come back and fix the work. So I paid for the work already done (mistake) and the guy left. Over the next three weeks I called Shede Plumbing repeatedly and was treated like dirt. Not only did they refuse to come back unless I agreed to PAY for them to fix their mistake - an estimated $300 according to them - but while explaining my issue on the phone to first the owner's wife then the owner in what I viewed as a reasonable manner and tone I was repeatedly told to "calm down", "be reasonable", "stop shouting" and that there was "no reason to be so upset". I was also told I couldn't possibly know they had done the work wrong since I'm "not a plumber". Once I brought up that their plumber was the one who had told me the work was wrong they switched the story saying it was done that way because my building superintendent was "rushing" them (something I don't believe was true either since I was there and saw no signs of it). As a side - the only reason the super was there was because he said there had been past issues (in his words) with plumbers taking advantage of young female condo owners in the complex. Three weeks I called them and put up with this derogatory behavior - three weeks they promised to discuss the situation and get back to me. Zero times did they actually get back to me and each time I called them back when they failed to call me I had to remind them in exact detail who I was and the whole process started over again. Finally I gave up which I am sure was their intention. I would rather pay another company $300 to fix their Schede job than work or indeed talk to them ever again. Yelp shows our address as Massachusetts, but that's our second home, we also are in NewCanaan/PoundRidge. We found Schede Plumbing on HomeAdvisor. They were highly rated there. I called on a Saturday and expected a call back for an appt on a weekday. Our problem was not enough heat from a heat pump.Nothing urgent. I spoke to the owner Lou Schede who said he was on his way to a call, but if there was time he would come afterwards. If not, did I want him to come the next day Sunday. Wow he was going to come on a weekend. He called me later and said he could come saturday afternoon and when he showed up he suggested some solutions to the problem. 1. replace air filter. 2 contact mfg to see if speed of air blower could be increased. 3. add inexpensive auxiliary electric heat. He said he felt adding a heat zone or increasing duct work would not give a very economical return on investment. I was impressed that he didn't try to sell me anything, just offered suggestions and said call back if they didn't work. And, he didn't charge for the consultation. So, to sum up: came on a weekend; diagnosed problems and offered solutions; didn't try to sell any product or service; didn't bill for his time. As far as I'm concerned he our guy for any future problems. I couldn't wait to write this review. And, I'm delighted to recommend him to others. read more
