So exploring west London in preparation for Yelp's WestFest I stumbled upon this fabulous shop…read more Ignore the name, antiques enthusiasts look away now, the jewels here are for fashionistas! Art deco designs, 1950s plastic pineapples, Lady Di diamante replica drops, you name it and this shop has it! All with a price tag mind you but if you are looking for a special gift or item that will wow and impress all your friends look no further. You really can spend hours in here, or at least that's what I did. Everything is in a glass case as most of it is delicate and it must be hard stopping people with a five finger discount from snapping up these beauties otherwise. The items are all laid out thematically, so you'll find your scotty dog choker with the houndstooth broaches off course. Head on down if you have some time during the week, that way the whole place isn't over run by tourists and you can look in peace, even better than that, go on a rainy day... Notting Hill becomes a ghost town.

Please please go and see it for yourself. There are no words to describe the overwhelming beauty of the jewellery.

I enjoyed a quiche. My daughters enjoyed strawberries topped with Nutella. We all shared a fish and chips meal from Poppie's which I highly recommend. A real blast from the past this one, Located on Chiswick High Road near the High Road Brasserie,…read moreyou will find a small and unimpressive entrance to this weird and wonderful collection on nostalgia, antiques, American, art deco and retro furniture and other household items. It is a labyrinth of corridors, stairways, rooms and mini shops offering an amazing collection of everything old and antique that you may want to buy for your castle. Go there just for the spectacle, it is a truly amazing experience to walk among all of this clutter and stuff (I wanted to say junk) but I am sure they have some really expensive pieces. 1950's and 60's table lamps, fashion, table, chairs and chest of drawers are everywhere, as are the chandeliers - you don't go here to buy something, you go here to find something.

It's a great place to come if you're looking for something to complement the IKEA or whatever brand forms the majority of your household furnishings. I didn't go with anything particular in mind but then I think that's probably the best frame of mind to be in when it comes to this sort of shopping. This way you allow yourself the true novelty of emotion when you realize you've found the stuffed owl you never knew you wanted. I quite liked the look of a few of 1950's American diner style kitchen stuff, cocktail shakers and drinks trolleys, that sort of thing but on this occasion I left as I came in. It's all about taste somewhere like this, it's eclectic and nothing will appeal to everyone but pop in, have a look around, something probably will.

Oi

Finding this place was random and out of the blue, but I stepped inside Oi! because I got curious…read moreas to what else was in this shop after seeing the cases and displays of jewelry at the front. Right when I walked in, there's sterling silver jewelry pieces on the tables and on the counter (next to the register) with beading, wirework, and crystal/gemstone setting designs. If memory serves me correctly, the back of the shop has lots of other pieces that are fun and funky (and frankly the only things affordable for this poor- uni student's budget!). There are various acrylic bead bracelets, colorful pom-pom necklaces, and I remember even seeing plastic toy earring studs (Legos, or perhaps a British version of it?) in the basket mix. There's also a small side entrance within the middle of the store that connects to a small room filled with cute fabric handbags and plushie charms. In all honesty, as an arts-and-crafts person myself...I didn't really see too many pieces that were radically different nor incredibly innovative (in fact, a wallet clutches I ended up buying...I could've made it myself for less the cost if I wanted to make my own). But considering that it's all handmade, sold on Portobello Road (and that the USD is still weaker against the GBP), I do give credit that the earrings and wallet clutch I bought are still unique regardless and that I won't bump into someone anytime soon that have those same pieces.

This location is very easy to find as it's off the main drag of Carnaby street just off to the side. The black paint and signage make it easy to spot. The inside was clean and not overdone so you can really focus on the pieces there. I've always wanted a piece from here but was apprehensive because of the prices (I'm just cheap, the pieces are quality and reasonable for the craftsmanship) but mainly because since all of the pieces are custom made to your size, the items need to be shipped. Told myself for years I'd just go to their Los Angeles store but never did. It's so much more special getting a piece here though as the Great Frog originated here. Staff member named Jaws helped me out and was a lovely human being. Approachable and helpful, not pushy but made me feel good about my purchase. Walked me through sizing me for a ring and talked prices and shipping. Also was friendly that we got off topic talking about life and overall just a nice person who made the experience A+. I'm so happy with my rock n roll ring purchase that I'll be a fan going forward. If you love badass jewelry with a rock n roll edge and history, this shop is the one for you.
