I went here after trying to find a stylist for weeks that would attempt to lighten the brunette I have in my hair. My normal stylist is in NC and i couldn't get back to her. With as much experience as Chris has, i thought for sure she was my girl. I went to the salon for her to see my color, try a couple tests strips to find a good plan of attack for the goal, and left feeling confident she could help. She even stated herself that it worked well, and that was have a plan and to make an apt. I made an apt and unfortunately couldn't make it, and when I tried to reschedule the text i got was "I honestly don't think I'm the right stylist for your hair, goodluck in your blonding journey" and essentially bailed on me all of a sudden and for what seemed like no reason. I responded saying "i thought we had a plan?" and she never even had the decency to text me back. Now I have random platinum blonde strips in the back of my head, when the rest of it is a dark brunette (very noticeable) and nobody else in the dallas area will touch my hair. For people with so much experience you'd think a little brunette wouldn't scare them as much as it did and does. Currently just waiting it out to get to NC for my normal stylist because unlike everyone else she's not afraid of a little hair dye. read more

WOW!!! So i woke up the other day and decided I wanted to chop my hair. I've never gotten my hair cut in Dallas before so I was just googling places near my apartment I could go to after work and that had appointments open. All I needed was a cut, I don't dye my hair or anything so I'm not super picky on hair places. I came across Scene and saw that Arci was available at 6- perfect! Booked! I get there and I was pretty nervous because I knew I was about to make a pretty big change to my look. I tell Arci, "ok let's do this!!!" She said, "there's no going back now!" and we do it! This is praise more for Kaycee Clark than it is about the salon, because to me, most salons are very similar and you don't go there because you like the building or finish-out (or, I wouldn't think you would). Kaycee Clark is an excellent colorist and gives amazing cuts. Like others here, I too followed her from Dear Clark and gladly make the longer drive. Kaycee is a professional, knows her stuff, and you can relax and not talk, or spend the time talking everything from Texas Tech football, dogs, to politics. Kimberly is wonderful! She always does my Brazilian hair treatments along with a trim, and she's a gem. I trust her with my hair because she's done great work, time and time again. She will talk as little or as much as you want, so you don't need to feel pressured to always have something to say. As for the salon itself, I love it. It's a friendly environment (but not aggressively friendly, if that makes sense), and you can tell that the staff like working there. I can't speak to the salon on the weekends, as I only go during the week, but it's normally very chill and quiet as well. Easily accessible from 35, easy parking. read more

Well... where do I start. I drove to Dallas to get my hair cut and styled because I knew I was traveling to DC and I didn't want to worry about styles. So I found this salon on Instagram and immediately emailed them to set up an appointment. When all was said and done, I met with Jessica. She was such an artist. She asked my concerns and worked with my anxiety about cutting my hair. I totally loved my experience. She was kind and explained the steps to the process and made me feel like a queen. This was my first deva cut and she did an awesome job. I still have all my luscious curls and the shape brings out my eyes. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I normally don't write reviews but I just had to write one about my experience at Scene. I have very curly, unruly hair. A friend told me about the Deva method. Her hair always looked incredible so I just had to try it. She referred me to Kaycee Clark. Kaycee used to co-own Dear Clark and recently moved to Scene. Scene is absolutely beautiful. Warm and inviting and very friendly. Kaycee was absolutely wonderful. I had a lot of questions about the method and she really took the time to answer all my questions, explain the entire process and find out exactly what it was I wanted. I FINALLY found someone who knows precisely what they are doing. Kaycee did such an amazing job on this curly hair of mine. After she was done she explained to me exactly what I needed to do to manage my hair until I saw her again. I will most definitely be seeing her again. (I am predominately 3C - few layers of 3B - Caucasian curly hair for reference) MY SYNOPSIS : * If you want someone to talk to about your week, don't go to Glenn. * If you have very loose S-waves (looser than 2B/2C) and think that a twist out makes you a "curly girl" please don't take his availability (don't go to Glenn). * If you dig "blowing out" your hair and/or straightening it every day, don't go to Glenn. For everyone else, please, please enjoy this man's amazing work!!! I hate to post this, because it's harder for me to make appointments around, but, to my curly sisters, I cannot keep this secret to myself!! Go to Glenn. Tell him Kayla sent you. Tell him to make your curly dreams come true, and realize that there should not be "a" curly girl cut. Instead, let someone make your own curls what they're meant to be, for you. You go! (Please note, curly girl can be replaced with curly dude - don't be another curly guy that cuts those amazing locks!!) I just want to say, for the first time in my life, I do not wash my hair daily. French twists look awesome and are a style-choice, not a requirement because my hair is a reck. My hair makes my face look amazing and chiseled (a dream for any curly girl). I feel like my hair frames and shapes my face, not requires my face to "fill the shoes of what my haircut mandates". My curls are flowy, soft, and angelic. A gel cast is not something I have to weigh the statistical probability of "my hair looks great when it works correctly, but success rate is less than 20% of the time". AKA: I do not weigh the aesthetic appeal of dried Roman noodles with 100% okay factor vs 20% likelihood of bomb-shell factor. IN FACT, I don't wear product at all sometimes. It may get a little out of whack, but my virgin hair is still better 100% of the time compared to pre-Glenn. MY EXPERIENCE So, first thing first, Glenn does not come off arrogant, but he is also no Chatty-Cathy. He is not your "psychiatrist" hair dresser, instead he is your curly hair's psychiatrist. He sees what can be and should be, and makes it so. This is how you feel from the first 5 minutes of his hair shampooing. He loves your hair, probably more than you do. He treats my hair with the type of patience that reminds me of how I, a childless, much younger than my siblings aunt, acts towards my stubborn nieces when they do something that annoys their own parents at Christmas - what they have to deal with daily, I see as silly, because it is not a pain in my rear every day. That is how he sees my hair. What I see as infuriating dead-end scarred curls that have product caked onto them in multiple layers, he sees as opportunity. He does not talk to me about my boyfriends, what's going on this week, or what I want. He instead spends this time studying my curl pattern like the Dead Sea scrolls. He even studies the "tangle pattern" to understand how my hair "tends to knot" so that he can cut those areas later. Curly hair is hard. You cannot always cut all dead ends, or you will never get length, especially when it's damaged. If you always cut all of the dead ends, which begin to occur by the end of the month, length is equivalent to a land of unicorns and rainbow-treasure-chests. Instead of chopping all dead ends, Glenn goes for "best value" snips. He looks for the areas of curls he identifies during your amazing shampoo to snip, that does not take significant length off. I'm proud to say, my 3C curls have grown 3 full curly inches in 8 weeks!! Whoa!!!!!! MY FAVE PART Glenn is no "textbook DevaCurl stylist". He cares about your curls, and he cares about his work making YOU look good. This, my friends, is not talent, it's not a recipe, this is years of cultivated skill. Glenn doesn't make your curls feel like a wig that you have to make yourself fit. He makes your curls actually frame you. This is how I suspect a girl with straight hair feels when she leaves. That is what makes him so special. You walk away feeling like he made your curls fit you. Curls define curly girls in a way that few people understand. We get made fun of for them, adored for them...and in the end they become an integral part of who we are. They end up being a key point of our self-definition and differentiation. I went in a couple weeks ago to get my first Devacut with Glenn Charles and the overall experience was amazing!!! I then went back a week later to get bangs and highlights. Glenn is a true expert of curly hair. He took his time to educate me about the type of products to use and helped explain his technique, so that I would be able to go home and replicate the hair style. I've gone to Charles 3x since I've started my natural hair journey in December (one of those times being when he squeezed me in for an emergency - I tried trimming my own (curly) bangs!! Wasn't a good look!). He is amazing - he listened to what I wanted, what I was looking for and he took his time cutting my hair. He graciously answered all my questions (what products he used, how to use, gave me tips, etc). My last visit I got the devacurl cut plus a color (tried a popular do-at-home brand and it left my black hair brassy where the greys were), and he was verrrry thorough to make sure all the brassiness was gone. I've been seeing Cris for YEARS and wouldn't go anywhere else. I have never left her chair not happy with what's on my head. Her combinations of low lights and highlights are amazing, and the color always looks natural.
