My earlier review, brief as it was, still sums up my positive opinion of Reny's, a truly Maine chain of stores where I have shopped dozens of times without a single negative experience. There is street parking and a small parking lot to the left of the store. They also have a passport activity you can use as a day trip experience, whereby you are given a passport to bring to all or some of the branches around the state and have them stamped and signed by an employee. You get a prize halfway through the 19 stores and another at the end. To quote the chain's public relations, it is part of the Maine Adventure!

We visited the Dexter store during our recent travels and got some great deals on sunglasses, sun hats, household items, candies and more. I still do some of our supplemental grocery shopping here: either harder to find items or those that bear a cost saving for us, such as quarts of heavy cream. If the item is the same price as at our local supermarket, the 2% cash back loyalty program win it for our local supermarket. And we still buy some non-grocery items here, rather than automatically ordering from the mega online company that I will not name here. Another change is that I have switched to the Walmart pharmacy for a couple of prescriptions, one for myself and the other for a pet. The service is excellent and the pricing an improv over our previous pharmacy. A supplemental benefit is that if I want to use up rewards money from my health insurance card, the self-service registers accept the card when other stores did not.

Reny's brings to my mind the old department stores that I now miss, such as Zayre's or Mammoth Mart…read more(or nowadays the equivalent Walmart), where you can find nearly everything you want, from jigsaw puzzles to travel cups to game-playing dice. But the search is easier without the vast expanse of those other department stores I named above. I have found the people are friendly and helpful also. We have a branch in our home town, and this one seems familiar and comfortable in its Reny's "brand." We went there because we are playing their Passport adventure, visiting every store in Maine for winter fun.

But for non-grocery items and even food in some cases (a box of pasta was less here than in a supermarket as long as you aren't stuck on brand names), it makes sense to keep this Family Dollar/Dollar Tree in mind. I recently needed to find a birthday gift bag, tissue paper, ribbon and birthday card, and they had a fair selection and I matched the colors of all the items. Where else could you buy stockings, reading glasses, a storage crate, ice cream and craft supplies in one visit without wandering endlessly around a huge store? So far staff persons have been friendly and the wait times negligible. Obviously some things can't be found here, but it can be a nice alternative for a quick spot of shopping.

Bean clothing and gear is not incredibly overpriced -the least you can get at the outlet besides a very minimal 30% off is a little bit of good customer servicing, but you're not gonna get that here in Ellsworth. They're all walking around talking to each other and ignoring the customers .What they really care about is pushing the L.L. Bean credit card so be ready for that. Sorry to say, but at this rate, L.L. Bean's gonna join all the others like Eddie Bauer and they're going to end up closing their stores because they charge way too much and the sizing is poor and the customer service stinks. Of course it's geared towards the tourist so that's their saving grace cause people want the name ....Honestly, it's really not worth the money. I looked at a man's shirt that was an extra large that looked like a women's medium. It literally was crinkly like it had been taken home, washed and shrunk and returned, which yes customers do this, but shame on L.L. Bean for putting it back out on the rack that should be donated not re-sold You have to be careful at the L.L. Bean outlet because a lot of the stuff is product that was ordered online or from the catalog that the customer wore washed or used for a year and returned So keep that in mind. Once in a while when they have something at 50% off, it's definitely worth looking at but my grievance today is walking around the store and all the sales women working in there; they Just look at you and walk away and ignore you so i personally don't think I'll be coming back to this store in Ellsworth again.
