Remarkably poor customer service !...... sales people look right at you and ignore you i mean literal eye contact and nothing..... it's not as if L.L. Bean clothing and gear is not incredibly overpriced -the least you can get at the outlet besides a very minimal 30% off is a little bit of good customer servicing, but you're not gonna get that here in Ellsworth. They're all walking around talking to each other and ignoring the customers .What they really care about is pushing the L.L. Bean credit card so be ready for that. Sorry to say, but at this rate, L.L. Bean's gonna join all the others like Eddie Bauer and they're going to end up closing their stores because they charge way too much and the sizing is poor and the customer service stinks. Of course it's geared towards the tourist so that's their saving grace cause people want the name ....Honestly, it's really not worth the money. I looked at a man's shirt that was an extra large that looked like a women's medium. It literally was crinkly like it had been taken home, washed and shrunk and returned, which yes customers do this, but shame on L.L. Bean for putting it back out on the rack that should be donated not re-sold You have to be careful at the L.L. Bean outlet because a lot of the stuff is product that was ordered online or from the catalog that the customer wore washed or used for a year and returned So keep that in mind. Once in a while when they have something at 50% off, it's definitely worth looking at but my grievance today is walking around the store and all the sales women working in there; they Just look at you and walk away and ignore you so i personally don't think I'll be coming back to this store in Ellsworth again. I enjoy poking around the LLBean Outlet. They've moved to a new pricing model in the last few years and I don't think the deals are as good as we used to get, but it's still cheaper. The prices on the items are normal retail prices and each rack will have the percentage off above it. Most of the clothes are 30% off the retail prices. If you look, you may find a rack with 50% off or more and they have specials on items they are looking to move. We have the LLBean MasterCard so we have points and can use the points at the store. That makes for some great shopping. Staff is always helpful. read more

The same way I enjoy outlet malls for their deep, deep discounts on designer clothing, I also love buying bed linens and other home textiles. We visited a NY outlet back in early March but were stumped to noticed there weren't any home stores and left us with the urge for 'home' outlet shopping. So on our drive south to Portland, ME from Bar Harbor, hubs and I decided to see this L.L. on Rt 1 in Ellsworth. I honestly think the men's clothing (more so than the women's) are a bit on the cool side so picked up a few casual tops for my husband since he's still working from home and some lightweight cargo pants. While I'm a proud owner of their heavy-duty canvas totes for the last umpteen years (I own 2 large ones), the clothes not so much. L.L. women's clothes aren't my style- and not to say anything wrong about it, but the clothes are more for a certain crowd. There are those duck boots and small wooden furniture on the floor also for sale. But I finally got my hands on a white-grey cotton sheet set and a down grey comforter that I've been wanting. As the cashier scans your items, you'll notice their original, jacked-up prices- so don't let it spook you the way it did to me as discounts are applied at the end. Once we paid, I didn't feel this was my doom-and-gloom outlet visit. Service was nice and respectful by the way. read more

My two daughters and wife demanded that we stop at this outlet on the drive to Portland, Maine. It was a good call. The store was full of discounted high quality merchandises. Everything was well organized and clearly priced. We brought rain coats, duck shoes, hiking socks, and light winter jackets at 30% to 40% discount. Things are still priced pretty high for an outlet store. The store is huge so there are a lot of options but not at a significant discount.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this store on our way into Bar Harbor, and now our wallets are hurting. We absolutely loved this store, and I could have stayed here for HOURS! Some reviews said they didn't have great deals/discounts/a ton of product, but I found the opposite (maybe because we were the only tourists crazy enough to come up to Bar Harbor in February?). They had tons of coats in all sizes, tons of different Bean Boots and other footwear options, a variety of accessories from winter gear to water bottles, and even bedding and pet products! My boyfriend got a green 2 layer ski coat 60% off that he wore hiking the next day and had to take off he was sweating so much! We both bought a pair of unlined Bean Boots for 60$ each (YOU WILL BE SHOCKED HOW MUCH YOU SIZE DOWN! I am usually a 9.5 and bought a 7 (no half sizes)) and while we were a little concerned about being cold, the Bean socks we bought kept our toes nice and cozy! I also bought a zip up fleece for a great deal as well. I could definitely see this store getting picked dry in summer months, but in February they were overflowing with stock and great deals! If you've ever felt guilty about a frivolous return, DON'T. This store is living proof that LL Bean makes a business out of your returns. Imagine this as a Goodwill store for Yuppies. Tucked into a plaza next to a Rent-A-Center, this is the down and dirtier side of those"teal," "heather grey," and "cornflower blue," returns that you've sat on for two and a half years. Here's where once popular products come to die, or at least be sold off at 70%. For the bargain hunter, this may not be your place. In the sense that there aren't great bargains, but instead this store just brings the price down to what it should be. Like that scene in "Falling Down," "I'm rolling prices back to 1965." This store has a lot more space than most of the other LL Bean Outlets, and with their proximity to Acadia National Park, they tend to feature as much outdoors gear as they can. Less emphasis on clothing, but regardless they still have racks and racks of returned and liquidated clothing available for sale. My favorite of this store is all of the embroidered returns. So if you don't mind having a backpack that says "AMY" even if your name is Fred, then I've found the perfect store for you. Parking is plentiful, the people are super nice and they even have a restroom (admittedly it wasn't very clean). read more

This is an outlet store, nothing more, nothing less. As a visitor to the area, we felt it necessary to patronize the iconic L.L. Bean brand, and this was an easy way to do so. They have tons of options for shoes, boots, clothes, equipment. The store is a bit overwhelming, but I think that comes with the territory of being an outlet. However, I was expecting larger discounts than were present and ended up leaving with nothing. read more

This is your typical LL Bean Outlet store with very reasonable discounts on Bean items. The store was immaculate and well organized. I was particularly drawn to the 70% off discounted man's pants, however I was unable to find the correct length size. Lots of great deals. I'm sure that the selection is better after Thanksgiving and winter holidays, when people return their matching outfits they used for holiday pictures and unwanted/ wrong size gifts. But, it was good to try on the clothes rather than order and hope, like you have to do with online shopping. Also good for keeping your carry-on light when heading to Acadia-- just buy your hiking pants, fleece and jackets here! read more

We have been here at least twice since you end up passing through here to get to Acadia NPS. Both times, we felt about the same from the experience. Selection is sub par compared to the larger one in Freeport, ME and decent sized one in Concord, NH. Still, it is worth a visit to see if there are any good deals. I love LL Bean and this store is no exception. Great bargains all around. All men's pants were 50% off when I was there. That is 50% off the outlet price which is already reasonable. Some pants are under $10. Yes some are returns and some are overstock, but they are all new in new condition. They had more than one rack of pants in my size, 50% off. Huge assortment of shoes. Great, helpful employees as usual. Wonderful shop. The only thing it is lacking is Freeport. read more

Their return policy is a SCAM, their prices are OUT RAGES, and, the quality is SUBPAR! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! After approximately five years of owning my L.L. Bean backpack it became simply unusable among many other problems the backpack had developed over the years when one of the two zippers completely broke. The item was purchased new for me from the L.L. Bean store in Bangor Maine so I returned to the store to take advantage of their guarantee. Upon entering the store they had no replacement back packs of comparable style/size so my intention was not to even replace the backpack that day I just wanted an estimate of how much money on an L.L. Bean gift card I would get to replace it and to find out if there was any way they could order me the backpack while at the same time allowed me to keep the other backpack since I do need something to keep my stuff in the meantime. Upon this the cashier started searching all pockets for something and informed me it was missing a tag. I explain to the cashier there never was a tag I never attempted to remove the tag and that there is no evidence that there ever was a tag that was removed! Like I said before this backpack was purchased new! They proceeded to ask for names of people that could've purchased the item my mother was with me so she gave her name and interestingly enough there was no record forever purchasing anything before the year of 2016 definitely not the five year backpack so we proceed to get my grandmother's name who is a frequent L.L. Bean customer and has been an L.L. Bean credit card holder for at least the past 30 years receives flyers at her house frequently buys and return items at her local stores in Connecticut frequently purchases whenever in Maine and even shops online! But yet not in the system! What a LIE! After this we begin to get rather angry and additional staff come over to see what is happening they all start treating us as if we are criminals and are attempting to steal from them! What in the world is wrong with someone trying to return something and follow up on the policy which they were guaranteed when purchasing they didn't guarantee me it would last for a day they guaranteed me my lifetime! Why in the world do I need to keep a receipt for what they're going to be guaranteeing me is a lifetime? Why is it my fault your computer system is a lie and doesn't record anything? The build quality of their items is pitiful! The inability to be able to follow their own lifetime guarantee is ridiculous if they don't want to follow it get rid of it! Stop charging outrageous prices for junk and start to get reasonable prices! I've had similar experiences at the Ellsworth store as well! I have never had a good experience with L.L. Bean! They have SCAMMED me out of the almost hundred dollars for the backpack and then the additional cost to buy a backpack from another company When you do business with this Company you're not guaranteed lifetime quality you are guaranteed a headache and being treated as if you are a common criminal when you are trying to just to take advantage of something that they agreed to when you gave them an out rages amount of money for their product! After this experience I decided to go over to Sam's Club and pick up a Swiss gear backpack for only $40 and it's definitely a better quality than the L.L. Horrible, horrible service. I just got off the phone after being put on hold for 17 minutes and earlier being hung up on after being on hold for 7 minutes. I canceled a gift card because I could not use it - their damn website would never ever load. They need more servers or a new IT department and a hell of a lot more people to answer the phone. Since this is an outlet, you aren't going to find the same selection as you would in a regular LL Bean retail store. We were there at the end of January and they were having sales on outerwear. For the most part I didn't find any huge savings and found most of the prices to still be quite high. They did have a decent amount of clothing and outerwear, but whether or not they have what you like in your size is very hit or miss. They did take back the gloves that I received for Christmas that had a split seam after 20 minutes of wear, so I did appreciate that. I found a close replacement but the cashier tried to talk me out of buying them, which I thought was really odd. Despite the split seam they are by far the warmest gloves I have ever owned, so I'm willing to take another chance on them. It's worth a stop, but don't count on finding a great deal. read more

I'm a little late on this review as I promised to write a review about the customer service I received while i was at the outlet. I had a small duffle bag with a longer detachable strap that had been fraying on the padding. I went to the outlet in hope of being able to buy one on the cheap. Instead I found myself the lucky recipient of a free strap courtesy of an employee willing to do digging in the backroom to see if they had an extra one lying around, and they did! Really appreciate the extra effort to help me out and save me a few $$. read more

This L.L. Bean is an outlet store, which means you can score some amazing deals but finds will be very hit or miss. Although they have a pretty good-sized selection (women's and men's clothing, outerwear, swimwear, shoes, canoes, camping gear, etc), don't come here looking for one specific item, because you'll be disappointed. The clothing racks do tend to be a little disorganized, and the last time I went there, they had a serious shortage of small and medium-sized things, but if you can spend the time picking through it, you may have some great finds. Also, it's worth at least a perusal even if you swear you're not the type of person who would wear LL Bean clothing. I was always convinced of this, and so until I was about 22 I never bought anything there except Gore-tex parks for sailing...but the last time I went there I found a tissue-thin boyfriend cardigan that would fit in much better at Banana Republic than LL Bean for only $20, and a beautiful North Face fleece for $30 (discounted from $80!). So take a look, you might be surprised! read more
