The moment you enter, you're greeted by an eclectic mix of toys, books, nostalgic candies, stuffed animals, games, and unique gifts -- the kind of selection that makes both kids and adults light up with the same sense of wonder. The staff is consistently warm, patient, and genuinely welcoming. Multiple visits have shown how gracious they are with families, children, and curious browsers. The store itself is surprisingly large, with something tucked into every corner: classic candies like lemon drops and sugar daddies, local history books, adorable plushies, clever games, and cards for every occasion. It's the kind of place where you come in "just to look" and leave with treasures you didn't even know you needed. Many visitors say it's a must‑stop every time they're in Coupeville, and I completely agree. Whether you're hunting for a thoughtful gift, indulging your inner child, or simply exploring Coupeville's waterfront shops, Honey Bear is an absolute delight. A true local gem -- warm, whimsical, and wonderfully nostalgic. Highly recommend!

Candy I found from my childhood, such as, cigarette candies and the waxed bottle candy. The owner was very friendly and funny. We came during off season, it was cool to chat up about the island versus Seattle.

The staff was very friendly. It was definitely a joy to look at some of the toys in the store. The store itself is not big but has a lot of items for sale. Also I liked that it is not too crammed.

If something good makes you happy, go for it! That said, when my partner and I were wandering around Fairhaven recently, he spotted Fairhaven Toy Garden and said with enthusiasm, "Let's go!" I kinda pulled away. "Really!?!?" I probably rolled my eyes. But I love him and like to indulge him and make him happy. OMG! Well, I am just going to have to get over my ridiculous stuffed animal inhibition, because now I have a house-full. I follow my partner inside and lo! He points a lop-eared rabbit puppet at me which is so life-like that, despite my brain saying it isn't real, my hand naturally reaches out to pet it. (I'm sure it was a sneaky ploy on his part to get some petting himself.) I was awestruck. One gift to me later (I have a very sweet man, but we now have to surmise that there is a wee bit of calculation in him), and I'm buying up half the store. I cannot comment much about the store as a whole as they very wisely put all their plush friends right smack-dab in the entry so that you cannot move for at least two hours as you explore and play with them all. I was very impressed with their offerings of Folkmanis puppets and Wild Republic and Ecokins stuffed animals--beautiful! My long-limbed vervet monkey now hangs from the pantry knob where I keep my pet food and where it can protect it from my very real cat who, otherwise, continually claws at the door to open it. Having accomplished that, I now have a little raccoon friend, made from recycled plastic water bottles (you'd never guess this!), to hang out atop my delicate printer so said real cat will no longer jump up on it, risking its destruction in seeking a shorter leap to my window sill. Fun, charming and practical too. Who knew?!?! The staff were wonderful, at the ready to help and smiling the whole while, watching us with amusement. (They probably have some of the happiest jobs in the world.) Highly recommended, and see if you can get past the animals to see what other delights might be inside.

We managed to hurry past it on the way to lunch, but I knew there was no way we were getting back to the ferry without going inside. Not with a two-year-old, a five-year-old, and my mother in our crew. To our kids' credit, I wanted to get them a souvenir, or at least allow their grandma to buy them something small with my supervision (she can't be trusted on her own). The store was colorful and appealing, and I couldn't deny my boys the pleasure of a quick, moderate visit. Calico was well stocked with toys and games, and my two-year-old immediately went for a giant cement mixer set that would board the ferry out over my dead body. I told the kids and my mom that they could buy one toy each, and that it would have to be something we could easily take home. There was a large selection of stuffies at the front of the shop, and I strongly encouraged them to find something in that area. Our older son obligingly picked an adorable baby turtle, but his brother refused every little stuffie I offered. Instead, he found a cheap disposable pinwheel that cost $3.99. He's been obsessed with fans for about half of his life and apparently, the pinwheel counted. My brother and sister-in-law got a couple baby toys for their babies and we went on our way, all the kids happy with their loot. We've been home for over a week and the baby turtle, now named Baby Turtle, has a place of honor in our five-year-old's bed. The pinwheel pops up in random spots in our house, sometimes waved with aggression in front of our faces. I liked Calico Toy Shoppe and would definitely shop there if I lived on Bainbridge Island. I'd recommend stopping in if you're visiting with kids. It's a great place to pick up a little souvenir.
