I will not be returning. I had 2 broken nails and a job interview the next day. This shop has poor communication and I had felt uncomfortable half way through my service due to the staff. I came in for a gel removal, nail cut and regular manicure. I had told that to her over the phone and multiple times when I entered the shop. I thought due to a language barrier she kept referring to what I was saying as a fill but I regret not being more aggressively vocal. There was no acrylic on my REAL NAILS entering the shop. She knew what I wanted. I had to cut my nail tech off mid service because I noticed she began prepping for something I didn't want. She kept referring to her manager instead of the person paying ME which I believe was due to the manager trying to manipulate me into spending more money. Sad. I've also never experienced paying nor TIPPING before getting my nails done?! No one else in the shop had done this. This shop is "cute" but it's completely unsanitary, they don't clean their utensils and do not care about the health of your nails. Very poor with the drill. I would even assume they're prejudiced. I rather go to my tech but I was in a pickle. Never again. read more

I would give zero stars if I could!!!! Asked for a gel manicure with tips, NOT A PRESS ON NAIL GLUED ON AND PAINTED OVER! I could have gotten these at target and glued them on myself. Literally WHAT????? It's a fake nail off Amazon, with paint over it...and they charged me $115. Absolutely fricken ridiculous. Not to mention, the polish was applied and not cured properly, there are finger prints all over the nails, they FORGOT a step and didn't wipe with alcohol before getting wet so there are streak marks in the polish and the glue on the back of the nails is stuck to my skin. To top of all off, I watched the girl before me get her nails filed and sanded and when I sat down, Janet (my tech) tried to use THE SAME TOOLS THAT WERE NOT CLEANED ON ME!!! If I had not said something, she would have spread those germs to me. Appalling. I have NEVER had nails this bad. Ever. And I spent more here then a real set of gel nails. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! read more

The woman I was paired with was rushed, used too much force, and when I left the chair after my gel manicure, the paint on my nails hadn't dried and ruined my clothes. A nail salon should be a few things in order to make someone become a loyal customer... clean, providing lasting manicures/pedicures, friendly, convenient, and competitively priced. Every time I move residences or jobs I seek out a salon in the area which hits all (if not at least most of the above points). Getting a manicure/pedicure is not only an essential part of my beauty maintenance but also a way to de stress and be pampered. This was the first salon I tried in the area- I really enjoyed it, forgot to bookmark it, went to a few others (where I was disappointed), and luckily came into this one again (remembering the flower pins on the wrist rests at the manicure tables). The women who work here are friendly, accommodating, and do a thorough job making my nails and cuticles presentable before applying nail polish which does not chip for at least 2 weeks (I get gel). The color selection has some variety without being overwhelming. The gel polish brands carried are Shellac, Essie, and Star. The ambiance of the salon is simple. Nothing fancy. Perfect for going every 2 weeks for a new manicure without breaking the bank. From reading the sign while in, looks like they also provide waxing and chair massages. read more

This nail salon does a great job and very meticulous with everything. The lady that did my nails was super sweet and took her time cutting my nails & cuticles and buffing them before doing color gel. I've never have any nail salonist spend this much time and pay this much attention while getting my nails done. I was quite surprised, yet pleased. The color gel nails came out great! It was $30 plus tax. That's like what I pay in queens usually. What a great price for this area. Definitely make an appointment before going. When I went, no one was there around 230 but when I was almost done, people were swarming in all at once! Worst manicure and pedicure of my life . My 5 year old sister could've done a better job. The gel manicure and gel pedicure was 90$ and plus a 20 minute massage brought the total up to $125. I spent 125$ (not including tip) to get the worst job I've ever had done. And I was there for 2 hours or more. Mind you, I have very small baby nails. I'm still beating myself up over spending all this money on a job that looks like a 4 year old did it. I was very disappointed and I would not recomend or come back. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for my boyfriend to get out of work. It came up via a Yelp search for "nail salons cheap"...a well-used search term of mine. I'm very spoiled in that my local nail salon in Long Island only charges $7 for a manicure, so $11 was a increase, but I recognize it's not so bad for NYC. Mani was $11.50 (including tax) and pedicure was $25 w/o tax I only opted for a manicure. Lee, who I believe is the owner and/or manager did my nails, though I could tell their were a ton of regular customers who came in to see certain manicurists specifically. TIPS (no pun intended): -I thought she did a very good job (manicure pictured). -Very good polish selection and very well presented. Brief complimentary massage after manicure. -Not amazingly sanitary, but I always ask them to spray the tools in any event. -I don't know why people are talking about how unglamorous this location is.. I'd rather get a GOOD manicure for cheaper then have cosmos available with my mani.. the place is well-lit, well-decorated, fresh flowers, wood floors.. it's fine!! -Unlike most salons, I didn't feel that the manicurists were talking about the patrons in their native language (Seinfeld episode anyone?). I went in Wednesday night for the gel mani and pedicure special I asked if they were closing soon because i know it takes time and was told no. But than I realized they were closing soon when both ladies started doing my hands & feet at the same time and rushing to get it done. I have always been happy with the service and the consistency of the people at Scarlett. The owner, Janet, is a great gem in this city and cares for her clients. I stopped by this nail salon because it is very close to work. I walked in without an appointment and asked for a manicure. I sat with a lady and she began my manicure. Just under half way into the manicure another customer walks in who I am assuming was a regular of who was doing my nails. She tells me she "forgot" this lady had an appointment and that someone else would finish my manicure. I thought that was strange but she kept proceeding with my manicure when the regular customer was getting a massage. They use harsh nail files and as she was filing my nail, she cut my skin. I understand accidents happen but it was her reaction that was disappointing to me. She really didn't seem to care as long as she got to her regular customer. I have been here before and the experience wasn't as negative but this was a very disappointing visit. read more

Went here because of the good reviews on yelp and ended up very disappointed. My friend called and booked appointments for us and they were ready for us when we got there. For my pedicure, I looked at the foot bath and there were pieces of dead skin floating. EW! I asked them to clean it and they did but still disgusting. Also, during the pedicure the water was cold, not even luke warm. I asked them to use hot water and they said the building didn't have hot water right now. Shouldn't they have mentioned that when we called to make appointments? Someone went and filled a bucket with warm water from the back, but I was grossed out that they were using what looked like a cleaning bucket. The manicure was just ok. I left with polish on my fingers all around my nails but it's fine because I can just wash it off. My nails do feel a little jagged on the edges rather than smooth. This place not only did a not so great job, but they try to cheat you out of money. I walked in and asked if they had the $49 gel mani/regular pedi special they have advertised. The woman said yes, plus tax. Sure. But then from there the woman doing my gel mani and pedi did not do a good job (although she was extremely nice), and on top of that made my toes bleed (which has never happened during a pedicure before). When I went to pay, the woman who did my nails was trying to input the services into the computer, which included the $49 plus tax. It calculates on the computer the $2.21 for tax, but the woman sitting at the station next to the computer (probably an owner) told her to charge me $2 more than what is was saying on the computer. I didn't get any extra services or anything. Why would I need to pay more on top of the price already calculated with tax? It was clear she was trying to take advantage of her employee who didn't know any better, as well as take advantage of me. Avoid this place as they'll try to scam you for any extra penny they can, on top of a subpar job. read more

I found this place using Snailz the app. Snailz gave me a promo code so I only had to pay $0.50 +tip for a manicure. Using the app was super easy and they didn't question anything. I had a reservation for 7:15 but they were so busy I didn't get seated and worked on until about 7:30. I took this as a good sign that it was so packed. They used a fresh pack that included a file and buffer so the nail file was a little flimsy but it was brand new and worked fine. The basic manicure is $11.50 and my manicurist did a good job. I usually get gel so I'm used to the mani lasting longer but for almost a free manicure it was worth it. I'd like to return and see how the gel lasts. read more

I have no words. This happened 2 days after my gel mani, regular pedi. 2 DAYS. I just recently moved here and thought I'd try this place out. Right as I left and saw my nails in the sunlight I realized that they were completely uneven coats. Some had big lumps, parts were see through, and others were so thick they already chipped off. The nail tech didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. I was under the UV light 3x for some fingers and only 1x for others. I was actually heading to a different place but got lost so just decided to pop in here. Good thing I did too. Jenny gave me the best pedicure and manicure I have ever had (including some 5 star hotels and resorts). I was a walk in, late afternoon, and they sat me right away. A week later and there is not a single chip on my polish, a stray cuticle, and my pedicure looks like it was done this morning. Amazing. They also ended the service with a quick shoulder massage which was a nice touch. Price was relatively inexpensive, about $35-40 (with tip) for a mani pedi. The women who work here are entitled, careless, and snarky. I've given this place now 5 visits since it's right down the street from me...but every time I am disappointed and now have reached my tipping point. I've had a few different women here - had similar experiences with each. This time, my manicurist rushed through my manicure (again), was annoyed when I asked her to cut my nails shorter, and was talking about me angrily behind my back when I went to choose another polish color. She was so disgruntled throughout my 10 minute manicure, and yet at the end was so demanding of a large tip. So be warned, if you don't tip $10 for a $12 manicure, they give you evil glares and treat you like a second class citizen - I tipped her $3, despite having had a pretty bad experience...she looked at the cash and laughed, as if ridiculing me and then walked away as if I now longer was there. I realize we're on the UES, and she might be used to large tips...but this is ridiculous. I feel like money is being ripped out of my hand, and I'm not even getting a decent experience. On top of it all, the paint job was awful. Each layer they paint on is so thick, and she got it in my nail beds too. read more

I had a very bad experience here. Decided to come because i had to kill some time after work. I'm pretty sure they didn't know what they were doing. Never had I have someone take off my nail polish in such a manner and so roughly. I had to repeatedly ask her to stop what she is doing because she was hurting me but she either didn't care or didn't understand. I have been getting manicures for a very long time and have had powder gel for the last 2 years and have never experienced this. Sure it takes longer but an experienced nail tech knows how to safely and comfortably do it for their customer. I then got the worst gel manicure. It was streaky and weak and started chipping after 1 day when i know they should hold up for at least 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure they water down their polish, base, top coat, and everything else and that's the only reason why. There were nail techs who were soaking their own feet in the tub while i was there. pretty sure that you should at least wait for the customer to leave before you do a free-for- all at leisure. I wasn't intending to go here initially, i was heading to a somewhat nicer looking place a block away, but the nicer place had a long wait, so i decided to check this place out. it was perfectly fine ... the women working there were pleasant, i didnt have to wait, things seemed pretty clean, salon definitely wasn't the poshest place i've been to have my nails done, but it was nice enough (much nicer than some of those hole-in-the-wall nail places on random side streets). susan took her time with my pedicure, i didnt feel as though she was rushing, and she did a really nice job. cost was $21 - not cheap, but pretty average for most places in the upper east side. best part? the massage chair worked! i would't take my bridal party here for a pre-wedding nail fest, but for your average "im due for pedicure" moment, i'd definitely come back. read more
