She did a really good foot massage too . When it was time for my back massage they have a chair that you sit in and the face goes into the hole . I asked the tech if it was sanitized before my use She said yes She out a paper towel on the face part and proceeded to sit . A few mins into my massage I opened my eyes and seen long strands in light brown hair stuck to the massage chair . This was HORRIFYING especially since we are actively In a pandemic and I asked her if the chair was sanitized . This lead me to believe that they aren't as clean as they seem and that was enough to make me uneasy about the whole experience. Solid UES choice, 3.5 stars. I had a groupon that included a spa pedicure+10 min foot massage+10 min back massage+ gel like essie manicure. I made an appointment for 6pm on a Monday night, and I am glad that not only did I do that,but that I also came about 25 minutes early. The place gets "packed" after 6pm. This was my first mani+pedi since COVID, and they take a temperature check at the door. Social distancing was maintained, everyone complied with wearing masks,there is plexiglass dividing all the pedicure stations, and between the manicurists and clients. I was the only client for about 30 minutes and then a wave of clients who were both walk ins and appointments emerged (pro tip, try to come before 6pm). They asked some walk ins to return at a later time, which kept the salon still at a nice number of people total. After 6pm it seems the rule of thumb at the salon is that everyone is treated as a walk in, even if you had an appointment. Kamala was my technician for the day. Another person took off my previous ancient gel ( $5 gel removal) while I was at the pedi chair. Standard pedi chairs. Kamala did a decent job, the massage was good. The spa pedicure includes what appears to be special exfoliation and moisturizer, no callus removal. She placed paraffin wax for my soles at the end. I wouldn't necessarily call what I got a "spa" pedicure, as my previous experiences included more bells and whistles, such as a complete callus removal, and leg mask at other salons. My manicure was solid, Kamala did a great job. Good light conversation. Polite staff. They clean up the chair right after you leave it- a nice visual bonus for these pandemic times. My back massage was more a back rub but boy oh boy, she works magic in the neck muscles. For the price of the groupon, it was worth it. Cleanliness was my biggest look out, and they satisfied my criteria for trying to be as safe and clean as possible. A regular manicure is $14 here,so I would return for the manicure. I would not do a spa pedicure at this salon as the normal price is around 40 ( can't remember off the top of my head). There was a sign posted for a mani pedi special somewhere in the 35-39 range. Since I didn't have enough cash with me I had to pay with card and I told them that I will only tip 15% because they already charged me extra. After that they left me at the dryer for half an hour. She returned, I told her square but slightly rounded, very short and no polish, and she did a rush job. When I saw how they looked, not short, I asked her to make them shorter so she clipped them and said "done." They were rough at the nail edge so I insisted she file them smooth. Terrible experience! I took my gf here for a nice Sunday mani/pedi. Big mistake! The moment they realize you have a Groupon they bombard you with extra charges. We prepaid for a spa pedicure and only rcvd a reg pedicure. We also paid for a 10 min back massage and the manager claimed that it was not included and we would have to pay for it. So I went last week with a friend to get a pedicure, the service was alright. The pedicure itself was nice, ambience was quiet. The pedicure comes with a "free manicure." I ad a polish change for my hands because I had acrylics on but the girl literally did not know what to do, even explaining to her prior that because I had acrylics on and all I wanted was a simple filing and shaping- which is basic with a manicure, I did not get one. Not even an attempt. No lotion to the hands. No warm towel. Nothing. After I was done, there was no open dryer available so I had to wait with just having a portable fan blow at my hands. Once a drying station did open, I had to walk over with my belongings and plop myself down. The girl that did my hands ignored me. Now I know that getting a few second massage is complimentary, but I clearly didn't get one. It would have been nice to been acknowledged. And lastly, it's been less than a week. Update: initially gave them two stars but now I'm lowering it to 1 because i made an appt to come back to the salon after my vacation (1 week). I booked the appointment WHILE on my vacation to make sure I had a day and time available to drop by. Confirming it'll be fine when I come back to repaint the nails over the phone, turns out when I arrived to the salon she rejected service because she said it's been too long. She knows when i came in and this review shows the date (showing 1 day after I got my nails done) & with a pic showing the nail polish chip here. (I was reading other reviews to see if anyone else got the same chip that quickly and someone got a polish that "peeled" right off her pedicure-- so maybe there's a problem with the salon's top coat/ quick dry?) i attempted to show her the review with the pic of my chipped nail and she said it's because it's regular polish of course it'll chip. And then i was like .. no I've gotten regular mani's before .. it doesn't chip in 1 day. Then she changed it up and said she doesn't believe in pics because it could be a lie-- i could've been done somewhere else and that they always do a good job. And also if i got it here, their polish doesn't chip in 1 day. So she basically called me a liar. I pointed at the nail polish they used, and even pointing at the nail specialist who painted my nails who was at the salon, which I said my experience with her was fine, it's this nail polish color that's the issue (we all know nail salon dilute their nail polish so I was afraid this was the case for mine, that it was diluted too much it didn't last for a day). Ladies, we all know we want good looking nails for vacation, what use is it to spend that time and money getting it done to have it chip unexpectedly-- i didn't plan extra to accommodate this last minute inconvenience. I stressed the fact that I couldn't lie for this picture --you see the rest of my nails are perfect and I posted that review NOT after my vacation but just one day after i got that painted so what can I be lying about. She goes ahead to tell me she can't do anything for me that I should've came back the next day to fix it. She didn't sympathize for anything and her logic was unrealistic and very profit business oriented. I'm not asking for a new mani, cuticles cut and all just repainted nails for the "nail polish" color I paid for but took off since it started chipping. I'm not ok taking pictures with chipped nails If Im going on vacation, what makes you think I can come back the next day and spend another hour in the nail salon? I didn't plan any additional time. It's 2 weeks but let's take into account the logic of human time. I got my manicure Saturday night. It chipped in 1 day. I take the picture post a review on yelp. I leave for vacay the next day. My flight is a day long. That's -3 days already. I land and call to book the appt for MY next available date. What I mean about that is I'm at my vacation for a week so my next avail time to repaint is not " the next day". 7+3 days is 10 days. I arrive back to New York on the 11th day at late night. On the 12th and 13th day is a thurs + Fri that I work late, the next avail date i can come get "my moneys worth" is Saturday. It's not like Ive been taking advantage of the 2 weeks to finally comr, I PHYSICALLY CANT come in the matter of 1-2 days to get that polish fixed because I'm away! The proof and evidence that it chipped in 1 day is there in the photo. We all know what 1 week old chipped nails look like and it's not this. Its unacceptable to treat any customer like WE are crazy. Been here several times, but only have good experiences with one nail tech. Recently went in and the owner did my manicure. I needed a silk wrap done on a cracked nail. She left the one on from my previous manicure that happened 2 weeks ago, filed my nail, put on one coat of superglue on the old silk wrap, and still charged me for a silk wrap. $65 gel manicure and regular pedicure, and the nail with the now 2+ week old silk wrap chipped. It chipped a day after my manicure but with my work and travel schedule, I didn't have time to get it fixed. The owner seems to always add extra things into my charge and isn't very up-front with the price, so kind of frustrating. One other occasion, a tech miscommunicated the price to me and collected a $20 tip on a $25 service. As she was pocketing my money, I calmly said to her, "Oh, I think I misheard you, I was trying to give you $6 tip, how much is this again?" And she smiled, said nothing, and went on doing my nails. THE BEST NAIL SALON! Everyone working here is SO nice, the polish selection is high quality, and I never leave disappointed! First off, the polish selection. They have better and more updated choices, especially for gel polishes, than other salons and specialty beauty stores. Second, the salon is so clean. They clean the salon throughout the day as well as at night. The only cleaner nail salon I've seen was at the Four Seasons in Hawaii, and you pay WAY more for a mani pedi there. I'm someone who is very concerned with cleanliness and germs, and I always feel confident that I don't need to worry here. Third, the quality of the service is outstanding. My gel manicures last a month when I get them done here; the only reason I ever go in sooner is because my nails have grown so much. Even when I get regular polish, my manicure lasts about two weeks when I get it done here, far longer than my friends who spend way more at places like Paintbox or Ten over Ten. The women who work here are bigger perfectionists when it comes to my nails than I am, and that's saying something. They always take the time to make sure things are done right. You get much more out of a manicure here than you do at other salons in the city. Fourth, it's a relaxing experience here. No one has ever made me feel uncomfortable by pressuring me to spend more by getting additional services, they always play soothing music, and there's just a generally relaxing atmosphere here. They do a special heel soak that smells nice and a coffee grind exfoliant that tickled so I had her only do one foot- but that was part of the regular pedicure! I pass by this salon almost every day and I'm always intrigued by the $25.25 mani-pedi deal advertised in the window. Today I decided to try it out since it's one of the cheaper mani-pedi deals on the upper east side. The place is very bright and clean, and automatically attracts passerbys to peek in the windows. The utensils, hot towels, etc. are all properly cleaned between customers. The service is friendly, but reserved. They don't speak english very well, but they are very considerate: they ask about the shape you want your nails, how you want your cuticles, etc. At the end of it, they give you a back massage for a few minutes while your nails and toes dry under the dryer. They are cash only, but they have an ATM in store in case you forget. I also recommend bringing a magazine or two (they didn't have any magazines when I was there).
