They took 2 xrays and he came in and told me to continue to wear the boot I already had and come back in 6 weeks. They charged $2872 and refuse to reduce the bill. He didn't touch me only talked for a couple minutes.

My father passed away and…read morebefore I could travel to get to Mattoon from out of state, Mitchelle-Jerdan had met with my 91 year old Grandmother and convinced her to sign a cremation contract. I was shocked at the price when I arrived and reviewed the charges. I contacted the other funeral home in town, Schillings, and received an estimate that was $1,200 less for the same services. When I went to Mitchelle-Jerdan's office to pay the bill I presented them with a copy of the estimate and they seemed embarrassed. They had no reasonable explanation for why their charges were more. We ended up settling on a fair price, but had I not done my homework my Grandmother and I would have been overcharged and in my opinion taken advantage of. I expect more from professionals in their line of work. I feel they were taking advantage of a 91 year old lady who was disoriented and under pressure. Thank goodness the people of Mattoon have another competitor in town to consider. I advise people to get an itemized written estimate from both funeral homes so that you can be confident that you are paying a fair price for the valuable services offered. I realize every business needs to make a profit, but $1,200 difference in price is unbelievable.

When it comes to prices when I pre-planned a while ago - they seemed fair, amenable to my requests, and I felt like I was in good hands - I still do. The previous comments which I read shockingly - it seems as if this lady has a more of a personal vendetta against the funeral home's owners if she knows so much about their personal life. Going to a competitor after a service is completed to see what they would have charged and being told a lower price is as old of a sales trick as I've ever heard. I agree - you should compare pricing when in the position to do so but I know when I've been to other funeral homes in the area (and out of state) - I still believe Mitchell Jerdan has the most beautiful and I know my family will be in goods hands the day I pass. I'm not sure a person whose father passed away and couldn't make it to the funeral and comes on here to complain has very good intentions other than to smear an otherwise very caring and otherwise reputable business in my hometown.

Some of the hospitals they serviced were Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Il, Paris Community Hospital in Paris, Il, Saint Anthony Hospital in Effingham, Il, Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Il, Provena United Samaritans Health Center in Danvielle, Il, Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, Il, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville, Il and dozens of small clinics in the area. They provided their life saving services to millions of people since 1976. At the height of their empire they employed around 17 doctors and dozens of other staff for services such as billing. They were pulling in tens of millions and frequently donated back to the community. Some of their donations went to the local school systems as well as EIU and U of I. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. My father and his partners sold their equity in the company to Dr. Aldo Ruffolo (I have a separate review on him). Dr. Ruffolo tried to start a side venture of Cosmetic Vein Clinics and failed to maintain contracts with the hospitals for Lakeland Radiologist. To make matters worse Dr. Ruffolo declared bankruptcy, for his failed side venture, causing all the companies he owned to go under including Lakeland Radiologist.
