Had a horrible experience with customer service in this store today. I drove to this store from Alabama with the intent of supporting a local business despite their prices being significantly more than most online retailers. I made an appointment to play test alto and tenor saxes, and after spending three hours in a practice room and deciding which horns I wanted to purchase, they told me that they had sold one of the horns I wanted to purchase online. Me, someone with an appointment, standing in the store, who had asked for the horn two hours prior, was not given priority over an online sale and I was told there was nothing to do. I decided to take my business to the significantly cheaper online retailers if this store is going to prioritize online shoppers over someone who drove nine hours and is standing in the store. read more

The shop was recommended a couple of years ago to take care of my saxophones. I tried them out with a vintage restoration project and they did not disappoint. Note, I shipped my saxophone to them, we talked over the phone on the work to be done, and they shipped it back. Best playing horn I've ever had! I recently visited the shop, and had the opportunity to talk to the tech that performed the previous work. I brought the saxophone to see if they could adjust an issue. Great meeting! The guys are great and they tweaked the horn in a short minute. They answered some questions and I bought a few things. Great saxophone museum on the 2nd floor too! (The National Saxophone Museum!) As I was strolling alongside Cherokee Street, looking for a great antique store...I stumbled upon this music shop, thinking they sold music. I was half-right: they don't sell records or physical media but they sell and repair musical instruments. I don't play an instrument, so it didn't do me any good. But before I waltzed out the door, one of the workers encouraged me to check out their upstairs museum. Whaaaaaa? A museum? Turns out they created a museum for the public based on the saxophone instrument. Kenny G would be proud. St. Louis never had an instrument-making factory (to my knowledge), so Saxquest used several vintage photos of a factory based in Elkhart, Indiana. Several saxophones are on display, with notes accompanying them. I was told there would be young men practicing on their instruments but I could still explore the museum. Very interesting, I'll say. The workers at Saxquest were very nice and helpful, and I asked them plenty of questions. I feel like I discovered a St. Louis hidden gem, at the end of the day. read more

They were supposed to tune-up the horn and play test it before shipping it to me. Pretty sure that never happened. I had to spend a couple hundred dollars to have a local tech put the horn into good playing shape. read more

Tuned up clarinet and replaced old pads, etc. Comparable price and gave me a loaner which was greatly appreciated. Took about a month. They're pretty busy! They also have a large amount of accessories available. Street parking seemed easy to get during day. read more

Wow wow wow wow. I can't say enough about this saxophone i just bought from these guys. I repair my own instruments and generally don't purchase instruments at what I consider "retail". I have a 1947 king super 20 tenor and have been looking for a matching alto of around the same year. These guys had it and I purchased it. I paid top dollar and was afraid I was going to regret it. This Sax is for my personal use and I can't say enough about the set up and feel. The key heights and voicing is spot on with no airy spots. The tech that worked on this horn knows what he doing (rare nowadays). Kudos to them for having such a bad ass tech. I can say this is one of the best saxes I've ever played. Their employees are leaders in the industry who play saxophone themselves. They bend over backwards to ensure the satisfaction of their customers. Well. I didn't want to do this but... I ordered a Hiscox Artist model Tenor Saxophone case from Saxquest on 10/01/15. It is now 10/11/2015 and still no case. It was supposed to be here on the 5th. UPS has lost it and is currently doing a lost package investigation. I know that is not Saxquest's doing, but I needed this case for a trip with a vintage horn and they offered no concessions, or help. Just, "oh sorry, this has never happened and we are out of that case now", yet it is still on there website for sale. Now they have my money, I have no case and have to wait 30 days, because I did pay with PayPal, so at least there is that. One way or another they don't get to keep the money forever. Great store. The staff was very helpful and the museum was amazing to see and get to play some extremely rare horns.

This is a high end store and I bet they are good for the pros with all the money and time in the world, but for goodness sake don't take your student-level instrument here for repair. Unbelievably long wait -- 6 weeks! They don't do loaners. Numerous emails went unanswered. Repair guy had an attitude. When I called the morning it was suppose to be done, I was told the repair guy would call me when he got in. No call. I had to call the next day, when I got him he was like, "Yeah it's done." When I said I was told he would call me the day before he was like, "I didn't do the repair and that message wasn't relayed to me." The guy was all attitude. Pricy, of course, too. Really disappointing as their location is not convenient at all. read more

Probably the best prices in town for reeds. They also stock products typical music stores just don't carry in the area. The museum is also pretty cool. Lots of horns there you don't see everyday. Staff is pretty laid back and know their stuff. read more
