My wife and I have done a number of classes at Kitchen Conservatory. All of them follow the same…read moregeneral pattern. The class will have a handful of different courses, and participants are each assigned to prep one dish. At the end of the night the dishes are all pulled together and everyone eats a meal together. We have taken pizza throwing, a couple pasta making, a Great British Bake Off, and a "Low Country" seafood class. We have enjoyed all of them. A couple things to note. The quality of the classes can be hit or miss based upon the person organizing. Some have been absolutely fantastic, and others are just okay. No matter what I've still enjoyed myself. The classes are expensive, there is no way around that. However, for all of the classes you end up with a good meal and then some alcoholic beverage (mixed drinks or wine). So I view the $120-$160 per couple cost as the equivalent of a nice dinner, along with some entertainment and a fun activity. Some additional notes. The new facility on Manchester is just beautiful. It is a huge step up from the spot in Clayton. They also have a great selection of high end cooking/baking accessories that I highly recommend. I have a pie pan I got after one class that is one of my all time favorites.

It had been many years since my last visit to Kitchen Conservatory, we had gone to the previous…read morelocation and had an average time but after a decade or so I decided it was time to try again. Wrong. There were two simultaneous pasta classes going. Our group seemed to have no clear direction. There were two pasta rollers and each kept malfunctioning with the handles falling off. It was at this point one couple left. It only went downhill from there. My sister kept saying we should just leave but I wanted to learn how to make pasta! And I paid a lot for this class so i was going to learn! But I did not. The revolt began and people just began cooking on their own (which in the end turned out quite well!!) just so we could eat at some point. We could hear the other class drinking wine and sitting down to eat, and our lasagna wasn't even in the oven yet. Another ominous sign. Our chef was very kind but it was clear he was not ready for this. It was my second and last visit to the KC, I walked away with no additional skills. Waste of 3.5 hours (though the class was scheduled for only 2.5) and 65 bucks.

As a student enrolled in the Esthetics program:…read more Crave focuses on students learning the Why's of Esthetics from skin, tools, diseases, etc. 4-weeks of in-class studying (book knowledge), daily tests (definitions, history) and 2-days of hands on learning the motions of client etiquette and the motions of what it's like to become an Esthetician. Also during the the 1st 4-weeks we were visited by: * A Dermalogica skin care representative. Crave/Pivot Point has a contract with Dermalogica (textbook, videos, skincare products, etc.). The representative gave us a 'Show-N-Tell' of Detmalogica (Who, What, Where, Why) company and products we'd be using at Crave. * We were also visited by a business owner who owns a Fantastic Sam's hair salon franchise owner who spoke to us about the many facets and careers in the beauty industry. * We were visited by The European Wax Center who also gave us an intimate look into their company, a 'Show-N-Tell' about waxing, types of wax and how important it is to choose the right type of wax for various waxing procedures. We received a Crave apron, our name tag, a Crave water bottle, our student Esthetician professional license so we can purchase equipment, product and tools for training and upon our 4th week our student insurance certificates. I am pleased with the learning phase. I also learned that Crave Beauty Academy teaches each student Esthetician the very basics of becoming a professional Esthetician but does not have the latest equipment for each student to perform the latest skincare method. Everything is done via hands-on using a facial steamer & magnifying lamp. We are told, we can ask for some equipment if the instructor seems it necessary to use on a client. But they only have 1 electric mask, 1 infared machine, 1 this and that..not enough for each student to learn during the 'on-the-floor' hands-on client training phase. The student Esthetician will receive professional products to keep for themselves and for client use (in their kit), which you'll receive 8-weeks into the program: *Crave jacket (it's chilly in the building) *Crave Smock/for use when working with client *waxing kit *Makeup & makeup tools *Skincare products *Eyelash kit *Etc. Check out the vids and pics of the school and I hope you choose the school you'll want to visit! I'll see if I can post videos on Google reviews.

With wedding bells less than seven months in our future (for our oldest daughter) and at least…read moreeight left feet among us, my husband, daughter, future son-in-law and I started taking weekly swing dance lessons at Just Dancing. And we are getting so much more out of the time spent there every Wednesday night than the triple swing and single swing skills. What we love: Our instructor: Jane The price: $10 per person per one-hour group lesson. Very reasonable. The flexibility: No contract. The other place we called to inquire about lessons suggested that we would need to spend a minimum of $500 to $1,000 per couple to get some customized, choreographed dance for the wedding. But in the long run, what would that do for any of us? We wouldn't have any new skills that we could use for the long term? We would just have one memorized dance to "perform" at a single event. None of us were really looking for that. The Fun: My daughter and her fiancé want to be able to dance together at their reception and they may practice some specific steps or choreography so they are comfortable, and the same goes for my daughter and her father, but really, we want to be able to dance together for years to come. Just Dance gets that. And they make it fun. We wanted help in preparing a father/daughter dance, a newlywed couple's dance and some brush-up couple's dancing for my husband and I, and we wanted to enjoy the process of learning those skills. Each week we show up and they practice what you've learned before, and maybe add a few new things. You can jump in any time, too. So on any given week in the beginners class (7 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Wednesdays) there are folks who have never been to class and folks who come every week). Friendly staff/classmates: Everyone is friendly, non-judgmental and eager to help. We are making friends and anxious to try out our new skills at some of the local swing dance events. Next up? We may try ballroom or salsa! But look out -- we might have some viral videos of us tearing up the dance floor coming to you from a wedding reception in October 2019.
