The graphite was soft and it was black there was beautiful scenery surrounding the area and lots of benches and folks milling around the area. Otherwise there is street parking and overflow!(both free) There is a golf cart that takes people back and forth from overflow to the beach for free! He does work off of tips, so be sure to throw some money his way! He is super nice, places music and has a cool bubble machine! You will walk down a short path and then... BEACH TIME!!! The beach has some areas with coarse rocks and then fine black sand! The beach is kept pretty clean and there are garbage cans as you are coming onto the beach and leaving. There are fire pits and picnic tables on a first come first serve basis. There are rocks for kids to climb on and stay entertained! The water is always cold, but on those hot days, it feels so good!!! It is a smaller beach and is gorgeous. We like to stop at the Rustic Inn, grabs some slices of pie, and eat the on the beach! However, I understand much of the areas I was visiting were tourist towns, or remote areas and that alone explains the price increases. Being a small town and a tourist town, the staff was attentive and friendly. They made shopping a fun and pleasant experience. They don't lack of other types, but you can find lots of fabric with thematic images. For example, you can find moose, cabins, loons, turtles, rocks, water, etc., and that's just in one set of shelves. I even found some Minnesota-themed fabric. It is worth noting that they are happy to cut you a fat quarter if that's what you prefer. They also have a large assortment of patterns and books. I was…read moresuper excited as we drove into Grand Marais to see the mini golf as one of the first things along the highway. Animals!! I love animals!! We arrived and no one was behind the counter. It's honesty policy so we paid our cash in the bin and commenced to our mini golfing adventure. It's standard and all the same. One painted miniature per field but no fun or creative twists to the actual holes. Compared to Minneapolis, there was no creativity to the actual goal of hitting the ball into the holes. The goats were absolutely adorable! We had fun looking at them and them looking at us as we hit it. I had a hard time looking at the birds. I didn't know if it because there was no staff present at the time, but the turkey looked agitated the entire time with ruffled feathers and the chickens seemed like they were attacking the other birds. Once again, I'm sure it could be a misunderstanding but I wish the birds could be separated. They kept fighting. It was very distracting from the mediocre holes. The peacock by himself was also gorgeous to look at. I can see why kids would love this place and I very much enjoyed the decor of the place though maybe because of the pandemic, there were a few areas that left us scratching our heads. The holes themselves were a little too basic for my taste- no creativity in the game. However, if you want a slower day in Grand Marais, I think this is a nice spot.
