Really liked the interior decor - creates a very homey, warm, inviting atmosphere with the lower color temperature lighting and woodwork throughout the space, nice comfy leather seating, a big glass (gas-powered?) fireplace in the back. Came here with the family for dinner on a Sunday night. Made reservations beforehand and were seated right away. The place was quite empty which suited us fine. Waitress came over and took our drink orders and left to get them while we settled in with the menu. She came back with some fresh buns from the oven. Very warm and soft. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with Caesar salad as a side. Prime rib was more medium and chewy than medium rare - no blood. 3 out of 5. Salad was one of the best I ever had. 5 out of 5. Wife had the rack of lamb. She said it was excellent. 5 out of 5. My daughter had the cheeseburger sliders. She said it was great. 5 out of 5. Fries were nice and crispy. My son had the Fettuccine Alfredo. He devoured it quickly stopping only to breathe. 5 out of 5. In my reservation I had put down we were celebrating our anniversary. Usually places don't do anything. The waitress came with a very decadent chocolate cake. 5 out of 5. The service was excellent. Our waters were always filled. Bring the bread at the beginning was great. Kids meals also included ice cream. The waitress in a low voice asked my wife and I if it was ok to offer it in case it wasn't. Nice touch. Most places aren't that sensitive to children. We also had a bit of a mix up with the bill and they fixed it right away. Great experience and will definitely be back. The only thing preventing a 5 out of 5 overall was just my prime rib. It pains me to do a negative review on such a nice restaurant. I know that seems like a contradiction but it is how I feel. I agree with Amanda F. - it is classy but not overly trendy - a nice comfortable place to come for dinner for all ages. BUT I have not had much luck lately with their service. I went with a group of women to eat dinner there. Luckily, we were all chatting and passing the time so the delay between when we arrived and when the server took our orders wasn't very noticeable - except to me because I was drinking the wine they served on an empty stomach! We all ordered our meals on a separate bill. We ordered two bottles of wine. At no time did the waitress ask who the bottles should be billed to. I was one of the lucky ones she chose. Too awkward to pipe up after the meal and say "ummm, anyone want to chip in on a bottle of wine?" so I let it go. The waitress seemed a bit out of it when we were ordering but we managed to get through that process ok. Whenever we asked questions though, we were met with a confused look. Like when we asked for a wine recommendation. Or if there was butter available for our corn on the cob. After we all ate, the waitress came up to our table and said: "Is anyone EXCEPT the one who had the steak special interested in dessert?" It took us a while to figure out what she meant was that the steak special came with dessert. ONce we figured that out, two out of the eight of us decided to have a dessert. This seemed to confuse her further - she wanted to know if we realized it was not free with our meal, it was only free with the steak special. Yes, we know that, we are ok with it. She brought out one extra dessert and proceeded to pass around coffee. I wondered if she had messed up so when she gave me my coffee I said "this will be good with my dessert". She looked at me rather confused again and said "it doesn't come free with your meal you know, only the steak special". I'm not sure why, with a table full of women ordering steak, lamb and multiple bottles of wine that she was thinking we were going to quibble over the cost of a dessert. Came here for date night with my hunny. It was my first time at this location and wasn't disappointed. We arrived for our 5:30 reservation to a quite restaurant. There was maybe 6 other diners in the dimly lit restaurant side. We had plans to go to a movie afterwards, so an early reservation seemed appropriate. Upon sitting we were politely greeted by our server Kris. He introduced himself as our "coach" for the evening. An interesting twist on what I'm used to. He offered us water and asked if he could get us some beverages. A little unfamiliar with the menu he guided us through it when my BF asked about spirits. Not a terrible move, but was expecting a bit more knowledge from a restaurant of this caliber. Upon returning with our drinks he proceeded to pour all 9oz of my wine into my glass... Another rookie move. Not a huge problem, but something worth noting. When it came time to order my BF ordered the Kobe burger... Seeing as it was a new menu our server wasn't quite familiar with the changes. So, he had to verify that it was available. I would think that training would be provided for the servers before a new menu launch... So I don't know what the issue was here. Food was typical for a steak house. My prime rib was juicy and very flavourful. The giant Yorkshire Pudding was fluffy and perfect! My BFs burger was juicy and cooked to perfection, with all the "groceries" crispy and fresh. Dessert was a lemon tart. Not too tangy and the perfect amount of sweetness. No complaints on the food. While the service was good it was missing that polished, fine details I was hoping for. I was really excited for this location to open, as i have eaten at the different locations in Edmonton and always had a very good dining experience. My excitement was most likely the reason i gave this location two chances before deciding to never dine there again. Our first vist consisted of waiting for our food for over an hour and a half, resulting in completely over cooked steaks. When we complained the manager and our waitress were less then sympathetic and did not even offer to take anything off our bill. Our second visit was not any better. Although there was less of a wait, two out four people at the table didnt recieve the right order. When we complained about getting food the waitress seemed annoyed that we asked her to fix the problem and actaully do her job properly. However this location does have a rather nice lounge and fairly decent service. I would probably eat there again,l but never the resturant. read more

We ate in the lounge part of the restaurant, as we were staying in the hotel and decided to grab a quick bite. Service was great. I ordered the Garlic Whiskey Shrimp, and loved it. The shrimp came with artichoke hearts, a lovely salad with a fruity vinaigrette and some bread. I enjoyed the whole thing. My husband, however, ordered the fish and chips. It arrived positively GLISTENING with grease. We tried blotting it with a napkin, we tried squishing it into the napkin, and he tried removing the batter from the fish. It just wasn't edible. The waitress was very understanding (She looked pretty grossed out too.) and we weren't charged for it. Go for the service. Not the food. Unless you order the Garlic Whiskey Shrimp. As a kid growing up in Sherwood Park, my folks would always take us out to the original Sawmill on Calgary Trail whenever we had family in from out of town. I used to love it. Perhaps due to my tastes changing, and certainly due to my experiences increasing...none of the Sawmill's excite like they used to. Backstory aside... I was so excited to have a Sawmill come to Sherwood Park. Reallity...it's "OK". It no longer feels special. It's just another franchised eatery which is no better or really worse than any other Sawmill..Keg, Earls, Red Robin or even BP's for that matter. Sawmill I am SOOO sad at you right now!! What used to be one of my favourite restaurants, is now a 2 star MEH...all because you went and changed your menu to NOT include my most favourite dish of all time. That's it; it's over! I love the atmosphere - classy but not overly trendy with a touch of Alberta's history and culture. This location in particular may take a little to get accustomed to. The lounge entrance is on the South side of the complex, whereas the entrance to the dinning room is on the North side. You can get through one to the other inside but it's like navigating a maze (one time I actually ended up in the kitchen...). The lounge is HUGE and it's rare that you won't be able to find a table. The customer service has always been ok to fairly good but it was the chicken Neptune dish that brought me back. You can Neptune a steak, but I am not a huge red meat fan, so I typically go for the chicken or fish dishes. Since the menu change I have tried a few other options but have been quite disappointed. Salmon burger; processed salmon patty...really Sawmill, really???? Caesar salad; drenched in dressing (next time - if there is a next time - dressing on the side, please!). There are quite a few new appetizers that look amazing, but since I can barely eat a restaurant size meal as it is they would be way too rich (fattening) to order as a meal. A friend and myself went there for supper in the lounge and both ordered fettuccine alfredo, one with the shrimp and one without. Food quality was terrible, will not eat there again. I've come here a number of times in the past and have yet to endure a bad experience. They are very accommodating for children and the staff is friendly. The only down side for this franchise is the complacent menu. There is never anything interesting to try. What you see is what you expect to get. Seasonal changes would be great or monthly specials would be nice to see. The food is great though. It's cooked and prepare well. I like their steaks and prime rib. This Sawmill location is struggling for an identity, experienced managers and staff you would expect behind a register at a fast food restaurant. We parked in front of what appeared to be the main entrance only to find out that was the lounge for the hotel. When we informed them that we had reservations, we were directed down a hotel corridor with kids in wet swimming suits dripping with water. When we arrived and asked where we could have drinks before our guests arrived, we were directed back to the separate lounge. We opted to go ahead and sit down at the table to have a drink. Three tables within sight were feasting on toothpicks after their glutenous all you can eat disease infested salad bar. Flys were crawling all over the salad bar so I opted to switch to ordering alacarte. Unfortunately, the steak was cheap as the service. I ordered a New York Strip and was brought a Top Sirloin "baseball" steak. When I asked to have it corrected, the Manager (who looked 22 years old) stated that I was probably not familiar with meat cuts. I decided not to argue even though I've dined at some of the finest and most expensive steakhouses across North America. But for a $30 steal, I guess you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay $40-$50 and have a better steak and service. The wine list consisted of a limited selection of lower end wines at fair prices but could be expanded. The decorations and atmosphere was nice and well appointed; one of a higher end restaurant. Our waitress was a metaphor for the evening; we saw our waitress three times during the evening. I later spotted in the parking lot with her friends sucking down on a cigarette. She muttered "thanks for coming" while exhaling. The manager and bus boy took care of our needs. While they were working hard they were clearly new to the restaurant industry. The bottom line is that this is a good steakhouse for the bourgeoisie who have families who have minimal expectations. You can grab an average baseball steak in a nice atmosphere at a decent price point. For those seeking a better steak or someone who is celebrating a special occasion, spend a little more and go to Chop, Ruth Chris, or another. $200 for 3 people would go alot further in any of these versus the worn out tradition of Sawmill which has become too confident in their name and is showing in their service! read more

We ordered the takeout Thanksgiving meal (five of them) and were so surprised at how terrible it was that we had to remind ourselves it came from The Sawmill because we've always had excellent meals before this. The cranberries tasted canned, the vegetables were not cooked thoroughly, the turkey felt spongy and the pumpkin pie tasted like a grocery store special. And we were charged $30 per meal for it! Gluten free friendlyish. The service was super slow from our waitress tonight. She was very friendly but slow. People sitting around us who ordered after us with different staff were received their items before we did. She also didn't offer us any fresh ground pepper, horseradish etc when out entrées we presented. The starter slads were TINY as well. They had a special Valentine's menu and under the dessert heading the 1st item was a gluten free cheesecake but when we sat down we were informed they had run out. Had to settle for the creme brulee. Watied for quite some time at a deserted host desk before being greeted and shown to our seats by a young, seemingly indifferent, hostess. The all-you-can-eat salad bar has been removed. But I also think it would take very little effort or expense to bring the caliber of the restaurant up a notch. I ordered sawmill on skip the dishes. I got there crab cakes and one of their pasta dishes. First the crab cakes were burnt all around, very bland, very mushy and had just a burnt taste to them. The pasta was okay but still lacked a lot of flavour and seasoning that could have helped it be better. I've heard bad things about sawmill and I now know why nobody really orders from there. I'll start by saying that my very first job over 30 years ago was being a busboy at the original sawmill on gateway blvd. Sawmill used to be a high end steak and prime rib house and it was a treat to dine there. Fast forward to now and the SHERWOOD park location which is a franchise location. It used to be decent a few years back but in the last few years it has gone down hill. My wife got a gift card for them so thought we'd give them another shot. We both ordered the prime rib dinner. The veggies were okay but the prime rib itself, although still slightly pink in colour, felt like a piece of leather when cutting it with my steak knife. It was dry and opposite of tender. When the waitress came around and asked how dinner was I told her it was meh. She did ask if there was something she could do but what can she do? No manager came around to apologize and nothing was done with my bill. I paid, tipped her my 15% as it wasn't her fault for the crappy food, and that will be the last time I step foot into that restaurant again. For them to call themselves a steak and prime rib house, they need to get their quality up a few notches. Now I know why Joeys is my go to as they are always so much more consistent. read more

I came here for the first time at this Sherwood Park location, and its pretty good. This particular Sawmill we were told has been here about two years, it has a rustic feel to it, with one was covered to look like stacked logs of wood, ready for the fire. There is also a glass type water fall on another section of the restaurant. The booths are nice and spacious and offer a good amount of privacy for those intimate dinners for two... I don't have anything to complain about, and neither did my party of six. We all ate a variety of different dishes and they were all good. Two of my friends ordered the prime rib and it came with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen. (It was huge) Two of my other friends had steak and they both said it was great. I and Hubby both had two different chicken dishes, I had the Chicken Neptune and it was really good. Hubby had the Chicken cordon blu, and her enjoyed it too. They've got good beers on tap and a nice wine selection to go with the nice meat dishes. We were all too full for dessert but the service and hospitality were good. Absolutely my favorite place to eat. Always consistent and fabulous.

I don't know what is going on at this location. Since they have opened as a sawmill, I have never had a decent experience there. Yesterday (it being my birthday) my wife and I visited there. We were absolutely shocked by what was going on. The kitchen was under tents and tarps on the patio (yes, you read that right). Speaking as a certified Chef, I was stunned by what they were doing. It was irresponsible and reprehensible. Now you would think that if they were doing that, you would probably get some kind of deal. Nope. Not a penny. $20 for a crappy-ass 6 oz steak sandwich cooked on a basic backyard bbq. But that doesn't include the "floor show". The GM apparently seems to like to think that he is some kind of Al Pacino, somewhere between Scarface and what I would call the "embarrassing stage of old age". There was one waitress who was dressed like she was in the territory of an aging Philipeno stripper who should have stopped 25 years ago. I really didn't need to see that much of her belly or her breasts. And I am definitely no prude. Basically, I'm amazed that The Sawmill wants anything to do with these franchise yah-bo's. On Sunday, October 15 we went to the Buffet at the Sawmill in Sherwood Park to celebrate our 51st Wedding Anniversary. We've been there numerous times and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately that was not the case this time. The food was fresh and appealing but COLD! Our plate of hash browns, sausages, bacon, eggs benedict, waffles and pancakes was cold! It was an extreme disappointment. We also had to wait an excessive amount of time to get our bill even though the restaurant was not busy. Not sure we will go for Brunch at the Sherwood Park Sawmill again. read more

Bad all the way around. Booked for Sunday dinner on Mother's day. They neglected to mention it was a buffet dinner... They have never done a buffet for dinner before and as usual the Sawmill buffet was bad. Poor selection. Cold food. Service was good but the 35 bucks for service charge on a Buffet is a little steep.. We were 4 people on the bill but automatic service charged because as a total we were a party of 13. I've been here a few times for business lunches and it's always been good. At lunch, it's never busy and the service is always friendly and attentive. I've had a few things on the menu and I've always enjoyed them. Most recently I had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich and it totally exceeded my expectations. It was juicy and flavourful and it was a big portion. The atmosphere is good and if you're into sports betting, there is a huge area in the back with many TVs so you can do just that. read more

Wow, is all I can say and not in a good way. We have just had our Christmas get together at the sawmill Sherwood park, and I thought it was one of the worse meals I've had in a long time. Back 10 to 15 years ago I loved going to the sawmill, now I only occasionally get to go. I probably won't bother again as the food and service was awful. Admittedly we had 50 odd people there from our company, but the lack of service and also inexperience in servers has played a big part in my dissatisfaction in the place. They knew how many were coming but couldn't staff it appropriately. Next comes the food, because it's a larger group we had a menu with just a few choices on it, that's fair. The Caesar salad was drenched in sauce and had a funny soapy taste to it. I couldn't pinpoint from what! Next the main dish, I had ordered the prime rib, it came with a large Yorkshire pudding and I chose the garlic whipped mash with a side of gravy. The prime rib wasn't too bad, a little fatty than I would have liked. The yorkie tasted of oil. Being English I know my yorkies, this didn't pass the test. The gravy was lumpy and just plain dreadful. Then came the mash, I'm sure they used packet mash because it didn't taste fresh at all. Dessert we had no choice. It was some kind of brownie in a toffee sauce with pecans. This wasn't much better but I'm sad to say was the better part of the meal. Really, what has happened to our restaurants here in Alberta, the mediocre establishments are now just plain crap. And you have to spent $150 to get yourself a decent meal otherwise it's just not worth it! Have we a lack of chefs in the area? read more

Went for the wings Tuesday and Thursday this week, decent for the price, budget about $15 each with a couple plates of wings and a pop each( lounge side) I recommend this location for the wings, on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Atmosphere is a bit on the darker side but pleasant. read more

We keep dining here hoping it will get better but I believe our efforts are finally over. We want so badly for this restaurant to do well but charging a fine dining price for something much less is not a recipe for success. Our experience there was terrible. We waited close to 90 minutes for our order. The waitress was very nice and kept stopping by to apologize and assure us that our order would be coming soon, but it didn't. We did order an appetizer but it was a very small portion that didn't tie us over for the long wait. When our food arrived our steaks were overcooked and dry. We ate it because we were quite hungry by then. In hindsight, we should have just left and went to grab a burger somewhere. It is an expensive restaurant to have such poor food service. We have eaten at a number of Sawmills Restaurants in the Edmonton Area and have generally enjoyed each meal. Sadly, this was not the case last night for this restaurant. There were four in our party. When our meals came only one of the meals came as ordered. The meal that did arrive as ordered as overcooked. One meal was satisfactory while one of the other meals was undercooked. Those in my party that had steak said it was below average or just average. For the price of these meals, the quality ought not to be slightly below average or average.To top it all of, when the bill arrived it was incorrect. We were charged for items that we did not order. The issue with the bill was corrected directly. Our server was polite, courteous, and professional. She was perhaps the only bright spot to our visit read more

If you really want a good Sawmill experience it's worth it to drive into Edmonton at Capilano Mall location, although they don't have a salad bar any longer.
