Let me start off by saying that there was maybe 2 tables already seated so I was seated very quickly. They were very attentive. So attentive I almost felt like I HAD to order immediately lol The food was SOOO great! The flavors were not over powering like the cooks were trying too hard and the chili sauce they had really complimented the flavors in the Chicken Pad Thai I ordered. I have this weird thing about my glass of water always needing to be full and they were on it like white on rice in a snowstorm!! I have to my update my previous review since my last experience was not good at all. For the first time me and my other friends went for the lunch. I always go for dinner and the service was always good.But this time it was horrible. The server came to took our order and he served our order. And that's it, I didn't see him after that. Wanted some Thai food after a day at the beach. Tom Kha soup had very little flavor, watery broth and giant carrot pieces that were uncooked. Yellow curry was tastier, but sauce was also very thin. Drunken Noodles were very flavorful and had a good amount of spice. read more

I Love Love Love Sawasdee! This is specific to the Soquel location because I have not been to the one in Santa Cruz. Here the food is always great! The place is clean, service is spot on and super friendly, to go orders are quickly processed for short wait times. They never forget anything or overcharge. Not very happy with amount of food and service. I've been here before as we stop by every year as we live 4 hours away. I was also pointed out that I need to tip when I paid. But I tip with cash on table and not with my order. I left a tip as I always do but I felt that it was rude for the cashier to tell me that. Almost wanted to take the tip back. The bill was also high we only order 3 plates and 2 drinks and the bill was over $100. I was not able to see if they billed me correctly as the receipt only showed the total and not each item. Third time visiting this restaurant. We were a party of 7. We arrived ten minutes prior to our scheduled reservation and left the restaurant 1:30 minutes later. In the interim, we watched as three sets of customers who arrived and been seated after us were paying their bills and leaving-before our main courses were even served. We ordered an appetizer of calimari which our server said she "had not tried yet" because the restaurant Gad changed over to a new supplier. These were calimari rings. They were somewhat chewy/rubbery/likely frozen products. The spring rolls were a little texturally dry, which was a first. Main courses were above average...a 7.5 out of 10. Service was a 5, at least to our table. Corkage was charged for two bottles of wine that we brought. The fee was reasonable, but all the staff provided was some wine glasses and an ice chill container. I opened and poured wine for our table. I felt that the quality of the food had diminished a bit since the last time we visited here. The service took a first class nose dive. It may be that they have had a difficult time hiring since the pandemic, but they were veritable phantoms throughout the course of dinner. One young man who brought water to our ranks appeared to be a very young teenager with minimal service experience. It may be awhile before we return, regrettably. read more

Sawasdee is a long term favorite and we visited two days ago and wasn't disappointed as usual. The food and service were excellent. I particular liked the Sawaswdee Curry and the Tom Kha soup. Before we went I happened to see some recent reviews here that discussed new chef and poor food so a bit apprehensive walking in but I can safely say this was not what we saw or experienced. Unfortunately I have to update my review for this place which was once 5 stars. They have messed up on our order a few times recently which would not be enough for me to write a bad review, but the customer service has become increasingly bad. There is one older man that answers the phone and is incredibly rude and hostile to the point of raising his voice / yelling at me when I ask him to clarify / repeat something. Also, angrily correcting me in how I order something and telling me that I don't need to tell him 'no X' ingredient because 'the dish doesn't come with that'. I've checked the menu each time after our conversations -- I order how the item is listed on the menu and yes, the ingredient I am asking them to leave off is included in the description. The food is good but not worth the raised blood pressure / getting yelled at to order. So disappointing. read more

First post-lockdown visit here. The restaurant was full and they were doing a constant takeout business. The food and service were both excellent. We had two seafood dishes. The only negative is that the calamari was rubbery, could not eat it. I think that restaurants that have good takeout food, like Asian food, will keep their takeout customers as they open up dining. Santa Cruz County just passed a mask mandate that says you must wear masks in your own house if you have guests, but you can still eat in a restaurant without a mask. read more

Best Thai place in Santa Cruz. Pacific Thai and the other Sawasdee location (near the boardwalk) are easier to get to but this location is more homely and intimate. The main complaint is that it's a pain to get here, almost impossible if you don't have a car, but it's worth it for the service and food. Came here with a big group, the first time I came here and they accommodated us very well. They split checks at the end which was very nice of them. The food was alright though it did take a while for the food to come out but I do understand with such a large party. However, I came here today for lunch and was not impressed. There weren't that many people there and the food was subpar. I had ordered the PadSeeEew and the boy had ordered Yellow Curry and they were both subpar. It's legit. I went here last night after finding all the great reviews. My first question...what's the name? Apparently, pronounced sa-wa-dee and means hello and goodbye in Taiwanese. Anyhow, my boyfriend and I had a bottle of wine, spring rolls, hot and sour soup, Thai basil eggplant, red curry shrimp and brown rice for $60. It was a darn good deal. The service was fast and the food was even better than I could have imagined. Kerry's review is totally wrong. This was my second time going to this Thai restaurant around the Santa Cruz area. I went around dinner time and it was pretty packed so I didn't expect to have my order taken quickly, but the duration it took for a waiter to come took a little while. I ordered the Angel Wings which were pretty good, but I didn't know that a whole plate was only 2 pieces (but that's okay because they looked pretty big). The taste of their stuffing was interesting in a good way. Also, the dip they give you the wings was a combo of sweet chili sauce, cucumbers, slices of carrots and a few more vegetables). I had the Pad Kee Mao which to my surprise was actually pretty spicy but at the same time flavorful and sweet (like how I imagined the Pad See Ew to taste). The papaya salad and tasty as well, it had a lot of papaya and very little carrots... i hate carrots in papaya, but this place made it well. The chicken satay here is a must order as well, its season perfectly and is very tender and juicy, the peanut sauce perfect. Best pad see ew ever. Period. Good veggie to meat to noodle ratio. Well worth the money. The thai iced tea with tea pearls = winner. Hubby liked his ginger chicken. The mangos with sweet rice was also well liked (and gone). One serving is enough for two people. NEED TO TRY MORE STUFF! The owner was super friendly and gave us recommendations. My girlfriend had her birthday dinner here and I was actually glad because it gave me a reason to check this place out. My other friends came here before and I yelped it but there isn't that much to go off of. Finally getting to try it I think this place is okay/alright. The Thai Ice tea comes in a glass like any other Thai restaurant, but the shape of the glass seems so small! You could probably down the whole drink in like 3 big sips! I ordered the Pad See Ew. Surprised that the portions were fairly large. Good amount. It tasted sweet and was pretty decent...until I realized that my noodles were really soggy. Not only that I noticed some of my noodles were not all colored, the same. By that I mean the sauce was probably poured unevenly so there were big chunks of white noodles on my plate. It probably shouldn't matter, but to me it does! My dish was still edible. This place deserves an extra star because of its service. Our waitress was super accommodating. She was super friendly and made sure everyone was satisfied. The waiter made sure everyone's water was filled and I think the owner came out to help distribute the food and he was super friendly! He cracked jokes and gave off a positive vibe. Considering this place is in Soquel and a little far from Santa Cruz, this place isn't that bad.
