Today I decided to to move forward with the decision to find my daughter therapy to deal with her anxieties. I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Starr. Although we have not yet been approved by our insurance to get coverage, I know this is the Dr. I would go with. I'm looking forward to seeing her help in the near future. Stay tuned!

Brainspotting is a kind of therapy that uses eye positioning to process difficult emotions and unresolved traumatic experiences. Alicia was AMAZING. It was my 1st time doing Brainspotting and it felt very vulnerable, even though we were on Zoom. I cried quite a bit as it brought up complicated emotions. Alicia was so warm and patient with me as I got comfortable with this new way of doing therapy. You can tell she really loves her work and helping people. The next thing I really want to try is Ketamine assisted therapy with Alicia. That is a type of therapy you would want to do with someone completely trustworthy- and Alicia would definitely be that person for me. It is very cool that she is trained in so many different kinds of therapy and has KAP on offer. She might have a waitlist- but do yourself a favor and get on it! I highly recommend Alicia Taverner at Rancho Counseling if you are seeking any type of therapy or self healing.

My wife and I went to Rancho Counseling. We met with Alicia Taverner. The experience was…read morehorrible, beyond belief. She was definitely not the right person for us. As can happen, couples can go on about the other person with the issues they may have with that person. We did engage in that manner without even one word of input from her. As it was just after lunch, she may have been sleepy because she seemed to be struggling to keep her eyes open. The situation digressed until a particular issue was surfaced by my wife. When hearing that, Alicia hung on to that like it struck a personal nerve and would not relent. She could have said, "you do understand that is a serious issue. Let's circle back to that later maybe in an individual session". She proceeded to belabor that issue until I got up to leave because I could not take the incessant shaming anymore. As I left, of course I made a comment about how much we were paying for "this". She yelled at me to get out or she would call the police. And again, of course, I told her to go ahead. She picked up her phone and proceeded to dial it. I left. My wife stayed long enough to have Alicia tell her I am a narcissist. The definition of a narcissist (as I learned later by watching Dr. Tracey Marks; what a great counselor. I would recommend her YouTube videos) is not that simple. There is also a healthy narcissism. Anyway, in that short session with Alicia Taverner, she somehow was able to diagnose me and impart that to my wife. If you are considering going to see her, I would recommend watching her on YouTube. She has made a number of videos (she appears to be quite the glamour hound. Oh wait, isn't that part of being a narcissist?). She also seems to "specialize" in women's issues based on her LinkedIn "about" statement which reads, "In my practice I help women find the calm within the storm of divorce and infidelity. I help reconnect them with their strengths and find the confidence they need to make the best decisions for themselves and their families". I see now why she incessantly shamed me, being a man. Do your homework. Do a search on her and hear her interview on "Women in Depth" website from July 6, 2016. And of course watch her YouTube videos. You will get a lot of understanding of who she is on these videos. Then make your decision. Finally, she may be too young to consider herself all that she claims to be. My belief is she has a bias towards men and you will get a worldly, human secularism counseling experience. She seems to refer to a Dr. John Gottman and sees him as a mentor.

I had a person experience with him where i was the only one to show up during a mens group and just needed someone to vent to. During this conversation, i became sad about my place in life at the time and he asked if he could touch me and i said no but he did it anyway. That made me feel weird and then he went on to tell the entire class that i had came in distraught and suicidal with out any regard for how i might feel about it. There are others you can go to , he's not worth the trouble.

I hadn't had many interactions with them, until the last few months when I contacted them multiple times because they stopped sending me reminder texts. For months, the day before reminders weren't arriving, and it actually caused me to miss appointments. I begged them to fix it. Nothing. Finally they escalate to tech support after like 5 months of this, and they find some weird thing wrong that still hadn't been fixed. Therapist says he's changing offices, and gave me options for moving forward. I wanted to stay with him, and he told me that I could expect some contact person changes and stuff in my email. Pretty straightforward. Then they (the old office) called me today, telling me that they're calling because of my appointment next week. They inform me that Landon is no longer with them (OK), and then.... tell me they will assign me a new therapist or I can pick one from their roster. Um WHAT. As if my therapist, who I have a longstanding conversation and rapport with now, is a spare tire to be changed out at need. I'm pretty stable at the moment, but that could really rock someone's boat if they weren't prepared for it and maybe not ready to hold their ground and advocate for themselves I will have no reason to field their calls again and I'm good with that.

Not to mention most of the BT's there look 17 to 22 ( They do not drug test employees) so someone can go smoke a blunt put some eye drops in and take care of my disabled child come on now most of them look like they don't even have kids. They're nice, but that doesn't mean they're qualified to take care of your children let alone special needs children that sometimes lash out or get aggressive .I heard a lot of bad things about ABA and I wanted to try it myself. This was just my personal experience so far honestly, I just feel like it was a glorified daycare with glorified babysitters and my son needs more than that I'm looking into OT and speech therapy and possibly a different ABA! Just do your research don't feel pressured into putting your kid into this program full-time ( like me) make sure you ask all the right questions and you meet all the BTs that will be caring for your child. A lot of people tell me you can request in the home sessions to where you can be present, but of course they never offer that to me. Texted them that it was unacceptable and I Never took my son back because I just didn't feel right about it and they didn't reply to me so unprofessional I'm glad I only had my son there for 3 weeks or before he got really badly injured.. follow your mommy instincts! Look around before committing and if u do remember u can take ur child out at ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON!! It's your right

My son has always been one of The fastest learners in his class Per all of his teachers, so I was Really confused when she gave us this diagnosis. When we were in her office for the diagnostic testing, She Offered to also do a IQ test. My first question when she asked if we wanted to do this was, How will this work since he has speech delays? I was told we have ways to make them understand the questions, etc. We were not allowed to be in the room either. After I got the results, I asked her how is this possible if he's known to be one of the fastest learners in his class? He reads he does math really well for his age. He's actually Right on power, if not learning fast faster than some of the other kids, his age Typical or not.. I wasn't really given any answers for that. A few months later, the regional center wanted a second diagnostic testing done with a Separate party that we went to. Right off the bat just after a few moments with him, she told us there's no way he has IDD But just to further test it, she did an IQ test also however, this time she gave him one for kids who are nonverbal. He passed with flying colors.. My reason for writing this is to Not shame anyone but to hopefully Make people think. Even though you are trained It's important to listen to parents concerns since they really do know their children the best. In this case, I would've hoped that Question of how this test will work since he has speech delays I wish that that was taken a little bit more seriously and thought about more strategically. We went through a lot of Emotional roller coasters because of this wrong diagnosis. It made me also feel like I didn't know my son the way I thought I did. I tried to step back and see things from a different angle thinking maybe because I'm his mom. I'm doing too much and I'm not seeing things clearly. This caused a lot of stress in pain in my life and my family's life. It kept nagging at me that I knew it couldn't be the case just from knowing my son and not that there's anything wrong with it if he did have one, but I just knew he didn't. In the end, I am thankful that he was able to really be seen and diagnosed properly elsewhere.
