I met with Alicia T. for an online session via Zoom. She had recommended Brainspotting to me as a way to work with my own struggles with defensiveness in my relationship. Brainspotting is a kind of therapy that uses eye positioning to process difficult emotions and unresolved traumatic experiences. Alicia was AMAZING. It was my 1st time doing Brainspotting and it felt very vulnerable, even though we were on Zoom. I cried quite a bit as it brought up complicated emotions. Alicia was so warm and patient with me as I got comfortable with this new way of doing therapy. You can tell she really loves her work and helping people. The next thing I really want to try is Ketamine assisted therapy with Alicia. That is a type of therapy you would want to do with someone completely trustworthy- and Alicia would definitely be that person for me. It is very cool that she is trained in so many different kinds of therapy and has KAP on offer. She might have a waitlist- but do yourself a favor and get on it! I highly recommend Alicia Taverner at Rancho Counseling if you are seeking any type of therapy or self healing. read more

My wife and I went to Rancho Counseling. We met with Alicia Taverner. The experience was horrible, beyond belief. She was definitely not the right person for us. As can happen, couples can go on about the other person with the issues they may have with that person. We did engage in that manner without even one word of input from her. As it was just after lunch, she may have been sleepy because she seemed to be struggling to keep her eyes open. The situation digressed until a particular issue was surfaced by my wife. When hearing that, Alicia hung on to that like it struck a personal nerve and would not relent. She could have said, "you do understand that is a serious issue. Let's circle back to that later maybe in an individual session". She proceeded to belabor that issue until I got up to leave because I could not take the incessant shaming anymore. As I left, of course I made a comment about how much we were paying for "this". She yelled at me to get out or she would call the police. And again, of course, I told her to go ahead. She picked up her phone and proceeded to dial it. I left. My wife stayed long enough to have Alicia tell her I am a narcissist. The definition of a narcissist (as I learned later by watching Dr. Tracey Marks; what a great counselor. I would recommend her YouTube videos) is not that simple. There is also a healthy narcissism. Anyway, in that short session with Alicia Taverner, she somehow was able to diagnose me and impart that to my wife. If you are considering going to see her, I would recommend watching her on YouTube. She has made a number of videos (she appears to be quite the glamour hound. Oh wait, isn't that part of being a narcissist?). She also seems to "specialize" in women's issues based on her LinkedIn "about" statement which reads, "In my practice I help women find the calm within the storm of divorce and infidelity. I help reconnect them with their strengths and find the confidence they need to make the best decisions for themselves and their families". I see now why she incessantly shamed me, being a man. Do your homework. Do a search on her and hear her interview on "Women in Depth" website from July 6, 2016. And of course watch her YouTube videos. You will get a lot of understanding of who she is on these videos. Then make your decision. Finally, she may be too young to consider herself all that she claims to be. My belief is she has a bias towards men and you will get a worldly, human secularism counseling experience. She seems to refer to a Dr. John Gottman and sees him as a mentor. read more

I had very high hopes for Rancho Counseling due to the positive reviews and research I've done concerning counseling centers. My partner and I had spoken on the phone with Alicia T. on March 29th for the "free 15 minute consultation." We'd informed her of what we were looking to get out of attending a few sessions with her, and she'd seemed warm and relaxed; we'd then agreed to meet up with her the following Monday, on April 5th at 5 p.m. She'd informed us that we'd needed to fill out some information via e-mail --done! (Keep in mind that I'd written everything down, as I'm a planner myself.) Throughout the week, when we'd logged into the website of Rancho Counseling's facility, we'd noticed that under the "Scheduled Appointments," it was blank. Mind you, we'd already inputted our card information, spoke with Alicia, and had verified with her our scheduled appointment, so we'd left it alone. Behold, Monday eventually rolled around and we were eager to meet with our therapist. Now, my partner and I don't live close to this area, so we'd left early because we didn't want to be late or make her have to wait on us. We'd followed the directions through Maps accurately and ended up in a plaza containing multiple businesses. On the e-mail, a specific address was given, and we'd gone based off of that one --turns out, it couldn't have been more incorrect! The address on the e-mail given and even on the website, says suite 124, so we'd parked near the ONLY door with those 3 numbers on it, despite that the name on it was different. We'd gotten out of the car and headed inside 10 minutes early. We'd waited inside for someone to come out, but no one did. Confused, we'd left the unit and WALKED AROUND THE ENTIRE COMPLEX in search of a building called "Rancho Counseling." At this point, I was becoming aggravated because I hate being late and I didn't want to make Alicia wait (I'm very stern with being on time). Eventually, I'd gone back into unit 124 and a woman was coming out, and she'd asked if I needed some help. I'd told her I was looking for Rancho Counseling, that I have an appointment with Alicia T. She'd simply said "Oh, yes. They moved, actually. I'm not sure what the number is, but head in through the main door over there." Bothered with the fact that this VITAL information was not provided to us, I'd still gone on to search for it. Following that woman's directions, we'd walked inside a main entrance and were greeted by dozens of doors and guess what?! 124 wasn't the right room! I'd found a random employee who works in the building and asked her if she knew where Rancho Counseling was and she'd tried to help, but overall didn't know where it was either. At this point, it was already 5:10 p.m. and I was beyond upset, as you can imagine! I also feel that it's very important to mention that during the WHOLE TIME I was searching for the correct room, I was calling Alicia in efforts to ask for directions --there was no answer, and so I'd stopped calling, figuring there was no point. Eventually, we'd found the room, and not because it was under the accurate numbers 124, but because it'd said "Rancho Counseling." We'd walked in, 15 minutes late to our 5 p.m. appointment. On the whiteboard in the waiting room, our therapist's name was written next to a button. I'd hurriedly pressed it in hopes of finally meeting her. But what happened? We'd waited...and waited...AND WAITED. We'd pressed the button for a total of 3 times, and we'd actually waited patiently until almost 6 p.m. at night! By then, we were beyond livid with the service and unprofessionalism we'd felt like we were facing; this was our first time going to counseling, and it was such an frustrating, awful experience! Fortunately, I believe that therapy is extremely beneficial, so most likely, I will again try to attend it in time --but if this would've happened to someone who wasn't fond of the idea of therapy to begin with, then they might've been turned off to it altogether, and that's really sad in my opinion. Overall, we'd left very disappointed and angry. After finally leaving and driving all the way back home, my partner had written an e-mail to them to ensure that we weren't to be charged for a service that we didn't even get the chance to have. They'd gotten back to us shortly after, thoroughly apologizing. I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1 for the mere fact that Alicia did take ownership of the issue and even called us personally to apologize. However, that does not change the experience we've encountered here at this business. I'm not interested in giving it another shot here for the fear of this happening again. My advice to anyone who would think about coming here for counseling is to MAKE SURE your appointment is secure and double-check with the staff that the address you have on file is CORRECT, otherwise you will be running around like a chicken with no head on like we were. read more

My fiance and I were looking for counseling but instead was met with what felt like an interview and a waste of time and we also find out at the end of our $175, 50 min, and very unpersonable session that basically we would have to spend $700 before we would receive any kind of help that we were looking for. Waste of money and waste of time. I also was charged for a session I could not attend because I have kids and last minute had no child care and I was told I wouldn't be charged and they still did and I had to call every day for a week just to be told I won't be refunded.
