Hey Savers, you get this sh't for free, and this is how you thank the community? Yes, plenty of items are reasonably priced. But too many tags are eyebrow-raising. Some merchandise is marked higher than full retail, which feels exploitative, esp considering the inventory was donated. Every time I stop in, I see cheaply made dollar-store items (clearly labeled Greenbrier) priced at $5, or more. I've found two identical shirts marked $5 and $12. The same item, two completely different prices. There's no rhyme or reason... A great deal on one, $7 more for the exact same thing. As a longtime thrifter, that kind of inconsistency is hard to ignore. Savers is a for-profit company, so this isn't about supporting a charitable mission. If your shopping goal is to thrift and resell, you'll have a hard time turning a profit unless something slips through the cracks. I do want to note that the employees are super kind, hardworking, and they try to keep the store orderly. My frustration is strictly with the absurd, and inconsistent pricing. read more

In thrifting, quantity can be a huge "pro" when looking for hidden gems. Sure, that means you'll be sifting through lots of things that you don't necessarily consider to be treasures, but the thrill of the hunt will keep you going rack after rack. That's how I feel about Savers-there's plenty to scavenge through and you're likely to find a few goodies. This location is Pop.U.Lar. So many people here and not an empty cart in sight....not to mention the lack of parking spots too. But I guess that's what happens when the word gets out and everyone treks to the same place. Over 10 years ago, this place used to be my go-to thrift store. However, now that they've removed the fitting rooms and don't allow returns it's just hard to recommend. The aisles are full of people trying on clothes! I saw a guy strip down to his boxers yesterday! They are also WAY too proud of their books, 40-year-old books going for $10+. It's just not what it used to be. The late and weekend hours are the best thing about this store now. read more

I was actually a little surprised to see the rating of this place! This place has so much good stuff, if you're willing to spend a couple hours digging through everything. Pros: I've always found what I'm looking for, and more! They have so many hidden gems, good brands, etc. Cons: it's definitely on the pricier side of thrift stores. The DI is much cheaper. If you donate you get 20% off your purchase, and if you sign up for their email list you get pretty decent deals. There are also no fitting rooms, so finding pants here is tricky for me as someone who always needs to try things on. They have plenty of mirrors around, and I always wear a cami so I can try tops on in the store in front of the mirrors. If you're willing to dig a little bit, this place is fun and there's a lot of great stuff. Every time I've gone I've found exactly the items I've been looking for, so maybe the trick is to have some specific items to search for. read more

This is my go-to Donation Location!! Mostly because of its amazing location near Smith's Marketplace and my kids school. I occasionally venture in the store if I have a half hour to kill before school pickup. It's a very well organized thrift store.... clean as thrift stores go but still kind of gross. Prices have increased to the point that I find better value buying new. I also find it super inconvenient that they don't accept AMEX. I found myself with a distraught toddler because my visa had expired and I didn't have any other payment methods aside from my AMEX, which I use for nearly all my purchases. I got my first ironing board when moving to Salt Lake City here at this Savers. Luckily I was familiar with Savers and had been before, unlike some other thrift store chains I've had to try. Everyone working here was friendly. They do specials based on colors or what day of the week it is. I want to say Tuesday's was senior discount days but don't quote me on that! The first off I'm going to start off by saying that I have been a long time savers customer and I have spent lots of money in that place lots of money especially in the Mill Creek location. I am extremely extremely pissed off because today I was in there and I try to as I walk in I normally would always give my bag right to the front cashier people to put it away and today there was no one there to do so then in that process I had walked around the store I had tried on a couple of coats and I put my coat back on now I did happen to walk in with two coats because here in salt lake City it can get quite cold as it is becoming winter it is kind of cold here today. I am very upset very pissed off because today was the first and ever and only time I've ever been racistly profiled in any way shape or form now I do suffer from stage 2 Parkinson's and I have a heart condition I have had two strokes and 14 heart attacks okay I'm not too happy with the savers up there I'm not too happy with their staff or better yet with their staff and their lost and prevention people now I have never in my life stolen from that store or any store. Because I don't steal anymore I learn my lesson when I was very young. This is my favorite Savers location. I'm pretty sure people (women) buy stuff at REI and drop it off at Savers. I can always find things new with tags and their store is usually fully stocked. Follow them on FB to hear about their sales, I got 30% off a giant bag of clothes, yesterday. There are other cheaper or trendier thrift stores but this Savers location is definitely the store I visit most often. It's always very clean, organized, and the employees are friendly. It's huge and has so many racks of clothing, shoes, and housewares that you're bound to find something you like. They have the most art, games, books, DVDs, and housewares that I've seen in any thrift store. Furniture is hit or miss - can be a little slim-pickings but some friends of mine have gotten some furniture that looks brand-new, and I've bought a cool antique armchair, some lamps and brand-new lampshades, and even a bike for my child. There are 4-5 dressing rooms that are clean and well-lit. I have bought clothes for my kids here, some still brand-new with tags, and also some great clothes for myself (they have a lot of name-brands and most of their clothing is in good shape with almost no stains or tears or stretching.) We find the prices are fair and good for secondhand goods. I also donate here quite a bit and along with a tax-deduction receipt (if you want one), they give you punch cards that give you additional discounts on your store purchases. And stay tuned for their sales - they had a sale recently with an additional 50% off storewide. read more

I have been a loyal costumer to this savers for months. But not anymore. This store has become a thrift store nightmare like goodwill. Upcharging free donations. In no fare second hand store is a plain hanes t-shirt 8.99. They recently changed their dressing room policy and no longer allow anything tried on in store. They make you take time out of your day to come back to return it and then tell you whether or not they will return it. (Only for in store credit that matches the exact purchase price...) Lacy had terrible costumer service. She is stuck in "I'm not gonna break policy for you". I wanted just a note on a jacket that didn't have a price that they were going to reprice so that I could buy it the next day. I wanted to come up with a solution so I had a good chance to find the jacket the next day after the repricing process. She just kept repeating herself like as if I didn't hear her the first time. She said the same thing to me 4 times until I finally asked to talk to someone else. Beth came to talk to me and her customer service was impeccable. She explained she couldn't promise her solution would work but placing my name and phone number on it but she would give it her best shot. This was something that Lacy flat out refused to even entertain. Each time I started to come up with the solution she cut me off. Beth is an valuable asset to you team. The manager, Chad McBride, was screaming at little old lady employee. It was so sad to watch. This lady has been there for as long as I can remember. She made the store really nice. Last time I was in I asked about her and the other ladies said she didn't work there any more. I asked if it was over that time when Chad verbally assaulted her and they said they weren't really allowed to say. One of them said "We all wanted to quit that day" and the other lady nodded. Thats the 2nd time Ive seen Chad loose his cool in front of packed lines at the front. The prices are sky high now. Used jeans that are non designer are $12, snow jackets are $25-35 as well as snow pants. Most tops regardless of brand are between 7.49-12.99. I have spent tons here in the past but today I bought three used pieces of clothing and paid almost $40. I bought six items- two new with tags from J crew at Deseret Industries for $19. I'm just shocked that an organization who claims to be charitable, jacks up the prices of their free donated items so those who need to shop second hand due to finances can't afford to buy most of the clothes for sale. read more

A bit expensive for a thrift store but generally well organized. Customer service could improve. Prices were recently raised--a book with a cover price at or above $9.95 now costs $3.49. This doesn't seem too high until you find the same used book elsewhere, in better condition, and it costs $1.00. Also, it seems like other thrift stores will at least listen to you if you point out an issue. For example, last time I picked out a book that was ripped on the back cover. I mentioned this at the checkout and ended up waiting for the manager to look at it. When she showed up, she acted irritated, grumbled a "No" and hurried back to what she was doing. I still bought the book. When I got home, I came down with a case of buyers remorse. Is that possible over $3.49? Well, remorse is an emotion so why wouldn't it be? Maybe it's just a bruised ego talking, but a question of "worthwhile exchange" came over me. Is coming here really worth my time? My money? My donation of goods? I looked at all the books I've bought from Savers over the years. They take up a lot of space in my home and they often end up being donated back to Savers. I also think about all the used goods I've donated to this store and it adds up--more than a hundred bucks this year alone! Great product and employees! However unless you are available 24 hours per day 7days per week don't bother to apply for work. They DO NOT offer flexible hours and even if you work 40 hrs per week no benefits unless you can work any time any day. I have found some cool and unique stuff there over the years (and some junk, the risk of thrift stores) and at great prices. Staff at the 33rd store is friendly and the store is usually clean. The others not so much (72nd is hit or miss and the Redwood store is pretty disheveled -I always feel like I need a shower when I leave there). The Saturday donation lines can be long -get there early and have coffee and snacks ready for the wait. If you don't feel like buying from/donating to a certain corporation that runs this state, then avoid the DI and shop at Savers. read more

No no no, Hell no. I have about had it with Savers. Their prices are INSANE, there's very often something wrong with a garment and it's priced high. I am done shopping here. I put a French Connection dress in my cart today, glanced at the price tag and thought it was $7.50. When I got to the register, I noticed it was priced $75.00......for a mall brand dress. Look, I may have considered this if it were a designer piece in a great condition, but it's FRENCH CONNECTION for godssake. I buy and sell clothing for a living, and I usually spend around $300-400 each trip to Savers, but lately, the prices are outrageous and there's usually a fatal flaw with the more expensive pieces. I'm looking elsewhere from now on. I don't know who's in the back doing pricing, but get your shit together already. Oh, and don't try to take something back, because they won't give you credit...they only do on the spot exchanges. I mean, come on Savers, you get your stuff for FREE! Stop being so goddamn greedy!!! This is a chain that supports Big Brothers Big Sisters, one of the charities I support, so they come in with favorable thoughts to start with. This is basically your more or less standard used goods/thrift shop, though it is impressively clean and most of what I saw there was pretty well organized, which is definitely a shift from places like Deseret Industries. Prices were pretty reasonable and they had a fair amount of new merchandise as well. I don't go regularly and wouldn't consider it, other than for some single-use items, such as a Halloween costume or something rare and out of circulation, as the last thing I typically want to do is sift through stuff, but all around, pretty solid effort. read more

I have a weakness for dropping stuff off and then going in to look around and more times than not, end up going home with a really great buy/deal or something I have looked everywhere for, and found here (and it actually works when you get it home!) I also enjoy talking with everyone that works there, the guy that brings all of peoples donations in and busts his butt in the heat and snow is amazing...and the cashiers are all super sweet BUT for the first time EVER I am highly recommending NOT using the check out register with a woman I believe her name is Patricia (she was there on the night of the 24th of July) who is probably one of the most rude people I have ever seen at this store! I had found one of those old yellow cardboard 3 handed learn to tell time fake clocks that we learned in grade school how to tell time with...remember those? As I was putting items up to pay for them, I said "I had to buy this, I can't believe how many teens do not know how to tell time without a digital clock!" Which is sooo sadly true! They don't! She gave me this death glare and flat out said, we /our generation made a mess of our kids because we taught them nothing.and let them down And how we are to blame for them being lazy and stupid! I thought she might be kidding but I looked at her and not one time did she even crack a smile! I was pretty offended, My daughter happens to be very smart, I made sure she could tell time, take care of her own bills, and did , still do, everything in my power to make sure she can take good care of herself! I did not let my kid down, I have encouraged her from day one not to rely on anyone but herself! Well this Patricia just kept on and then she said to me, did you bring a bag or are you going to put this stuff in the cart to haul to your car, I don't do that. Well I said I had back surgery and it's not good for me to lift stuff like that yet...and since when is it NOT your job to wrap my breakables let alone anything else I buy and put them in my bag? I'll be sure not to go through your line again....She in turn said do me a favor and never come through my line again, I was really take back! I put my things in my cart WITHOUT a bag, and told her I thought she needed to work on her people skills, she basically invited me to go somewhere very HOT! As I was walking out the door I looked back and she was being just as rude to the next people, and I am hoping like crazy she is looking elsewhere for a job by the next time I go there! In my opinion, this location is the best Savers in Salt Lake City. I've been to every Savers in the vicinity and always have the best luck here. I've gotten really nice Vince Camuto shoes, White House Black Market tops, Banana Republic dresses, and really nice kids books and stuffed animals. Yes, the prices at Savers in general have gone up and sometimes seem out of line for used items, however, a like new pair of shoes that would cost $100+ at Nordstrom is a huge bargain at $7. Likewise for a dress for $9 that would be $90-120 brand new at Banana Republic. I avoid purchasing cheap quality clothes such as Target brands, Old Navy, and Forever 21 because they are about the same price at Savers as truly high end brands and will not last as long. I found a great shirt. Went to purchase it and it was marked at $25. After googling it on Dillard's website (tags were attached showing it was from Dillard's on clearance) it showed for $13 bucks. Worst savers I have ever gone to .....if I could give them a zero star I would!!!! I bought my merchandise a week ago in Layton and went to the savers because I was in the area to exchange a couple things that my kids didn't like. I knew that one of the tags had fallen off and apparently I put the wrong tag back on. Mind you I bought over 20 items on my receipt. So apparently a couple other tags have been torn and they would not give me an exchange because they had been torn even though they could see on the receipt that I had bought all of the items that I was bringing back!!! Come to find out after talking to my kids they had taken off a couple of the tags by accident and put them back on without telling me when they tried them on. But the manager Tom Calder...whatever could've used some common sense in looking at my receipt to see that I paid for all of the items. Nobody at the Layton store has ever acted like this and now I have to travel 30 miles on the due day to get any kind of return out of this .... They treated me like garbage ....like I was a freaking thief which is bullS!!!!!! I will never return to the store again!!!!! I can't comment on the clothing prices like Vida A but I always find something fun at this Savers location. I generally look at the dishes, books, etc. I've found some cool records on occasion as well as some rad glasses and plates. They seem to have a decent book selection too and Savers often has random sales on things so that's a plus. The staff is nice and the location is big and open so I don't feel claustrophobic. read more

We come here quite a bit and drop off a lot of items. The last two times we have been here there are newer guys working the drop of area and they haven't been the best to work with. A few days ago we were bringing some never used furniture and they told us they were too busy and come back another day. Nice. We ended up taking it to Deseret industries and they were more than happy to help. read more
