I have paid consistently and on time for 2 units at Save Green Self Storage in Arden, NC, which is owned by Hawthorne Residential Partners, for 4 years. Yesterday, my access code did not work. My code was not necessary to get in the gate because, as I was told by the woman in the front office, the gate was always left open because it was broken but I needed the code to get into the building that housed my units. I was given another code and that one did not work either, so I was then was given a default code and finally got in the building. Then my keys did not work. The woman at the gate had told me I could ask man who was working nearby to my units for help if the default code did not work, so I asked him for help with the keys. He explained he had previously managed another storage facility and was familiar with the problems people had with those locks, He graciously offered to come help to see if he could get my locks open. He tried the locks repeatedly and told me that the keys I had did not work on the locks on my units and explained that if I didn't have working keys, I'd have to have to call a locksmith. I thanked him and continued jiggling the keys in the locks because I knew they were to correct keys and, after a few minutes, I got one lock open. I opened the door and there was someone else's stuff in my unit. So now, one unit had someone else's stuff and the other I could not get open, so I called the front desk and was told they would do absolutely nothing but lend me a can of WD40. They wouldn't come down and look the other person's stuff or even recommend a local locksmith. I asked them how I should go about handling the situation and they told me they would not tell me anything or help me in any way, besides the can of WD40 of course. I asked if I should call the police and she sarcastically told me "Yes, should call the police". So I called the police who explained the other person's stuff in my unit was a civil matter but that, once I got the other unit open, if my stuff was missing I should call him back and he'd send an officer down for a larceny. The locksmith came. He confirmed that the lock I could not open had indeed been replaced with a different one and that he was shocked I that I had gotten the other one open because that one showed clear signs of damage. Save Green Self Storage changed both of those locks and allowed another person to access my units and, when I attempted to rectify the problem, Save Green Self Storage refused to assist me with anything. Both the police officer and the locksmith were astonished and disgusted by the actions of Save Green Self Storage. I don't recommend you use them for your storage needs. I've added some additional photos. Save Green Self Storage is owned by Hawthorne Residential Partners. When I brought my problem to Hawthorne's attention on their Facebook page they laugh reacted to my message and also removed one of my posts on the page. UPDATE: DO NOT put your things at this storage. Three times this month the doors have not opened and no one has responded to the voicemail which is chronically full. There were people locked in with their U-Haul for 5 hours who had to call the fire department to be let out because they could not reach staff. I have had to call the voicemail for the storage for the other facility in Fletcher in order to leave a message and take a day off work. When I spoke to them they said there was no need to call them even if the building had been on fire because there was 'nothing they could do'. I asked to speak to the owner and never heard back. Still can't access my belongings and need to move out this week. read more

This is great facility. They recently renovated & built a new climate control building. Very clean & secure property. The Managers are so friendly & helpful. They have always gone above & beyond for us and I'm sure they do that for every customer. They sell moving & packing supplies that helped us make our move so much smoother!!! I highly recommend this location!!!! read more

Have had my items in the 2nd level controlled temp storage for 3 years. Recently movers moved my items out and all items are mold and mildew free, no evidence of rodents. I am very happy with my storage experience. Brian the manager was always very helpful and knowledgeable when I called or went to the office. I highly recommend him and the facility. read more

I would give this place less than one star if I could. I have had problem after problem after problem since I moved in. First, they overcharged me for my unit in the beginning, and then promised to refund me my money or give me an extra free month but then charged me again. They then proceeded to argue with me that they I've already gotten the credit and later found that they did not give it to me and promised it again. Then they still charged me $10 for an insurance fee. One of the other tenants apparently thought my storage unit was hers and instead of checking the system to make sure that it was hers they broke into my unit, breaking my lock, gave me a new lock, but then charged me for it when they told me they wouldn't. I eventually got a refund but that was only after I had to argue with them about how much the unit cost and what that charge was for. I moved in when it was cool outside, and I went in there today (June) and it was sweltering hot in my climate controlled unit that I pay extra for. The woman at the desk basically said yeah it's just like that, nothing we can do. I asked for the regional manager's number but the woman at the desk refused to give it to me because she said she's "not allowed," and he would call me. Mmhmm. I'll be sitting by the phone. I just wanted a safe place to keep my stuff, and I have had issue after issue every single month since I moved in, including a stranger accessing my stuff. They pretty much have me over a barrel because I would have to move my full storage unit to another location, spend even more money, rent a truck, and start all over again. And who wants to do that? If I had to start again I would absolutely not rent from here. They are a hot mess of disorganization and if you have an issue they basically refuse to resolve it in a timely manner. We are looking for a storage unit to move a family member's belongings. We have called several places, but the gentleman we spoke with today, Brian, was the most helpful. Upon meeting with Brian, he was patient, as we are moving an elder into our home, and Brian helped make the transition a little smoother and more comfortable for our grandmother. Save green in fletcher are running a con I paid for my unit 3 weeks later they tell me I owe for late fees and a lien fee total 356.92 the monthly fee 55 dollars now I just received a call my unit has been auctioned after being told yesterday that I could come Friday and pay another enormous amount so I would find another facility if you are considering a storage unit read more
