Eden Animal Sanctuary - Manfred, homecoming!

    Eden Animal Sanctuary

    (1 review)

Anyone that has known me for any length of time knows that chelonians (broad way to group turtles…read moreand tortoises together... they're different, people!) are my spirit animal, and I've wanted one as a pet for a very very very long time. After a lot of research about all things tortoise and acquiring/assembling my set up, I decided that just buying a tortoise from a store wasn't an option. It was captive bred or adoption. A captive bred situation didn't work out and I stumbled upon Eden Animal Sanctuary (and Manfred!) with a Craig's List search. They're a chelonian specific rescue that operates on a private property. They rehabilitate surrendered turtles/tortoises and find the PERFECT homes for them, if they're considered adoptable. Filled out an "I'm interested" form on AdoptAPet.com and FB messaged the sanctuary (https://www.facebook.com/edenanimalsanctuary), letting them know that I'd submitted the form. Rachel responded to my message within minutes, sending me the adoption application and asking for pictures of my set up. The application was long and very thorough. I was a little nervous filling it out, even though I knew that Manfred belonged with me and that I could give him an amazing life (and that I'm going to have to put him in my will because he will likely outlive me). Then the waiting began. I was anxiously prepared to wait over a weekend (as I'd sent in the application on a Thursday evening), but, on Friday afternoon, I received an email saying that I'd been approved! I may or may not have danced around like an idiot for the rest of the day. Just kidding, I totally did. The following Saturday, a couple friends and I made our way to an adoption event in Spring Branch, where the rescue had a presence. I had no difficulty ignoring all the adoptable dogs (not usually the case with me) at the event as I made my way to the turtle/tortoise table. I knew it was my Manfred the moment I saw him. I chatted with Rachel a little bit and filled out his adoption form, promising to return him to the sanctuary if I could no longer care for him. I was also able to meet a couple of the other chelonians from the rescue, including a teenaged sulcata named Radar and three box turtles. I paid my adoption fee (donations and adoption fees go towards building habitats and caring for the chelonians) and skipped away with my new, best reptile buddy. All in all, I can't recommend Eden Animal Sanctuary enough. It's obvious to me that Rachel loves what she does and loves the animals even more.

Until today I was nothing but completely happy with my service every Friday from HCWS. They are…read morecheaper than Tiger Sanitation and provide recycling and trash removal. We only used the trash service. So I cannot comment about recycling bins. Last week I received an email that HCWS was moving to a 1 man mechanical truck and we would receive stickers for a certain amount of overflow bags for free and if we used them up, additional stickers could be purchased. Never received the stickers so I went ahead and did the usual and neatly placed my broken down boxes near my trash bin. I happen to be in my car in the driveway when a HCWS driver with new truck came and used the mechanical to pick up the bin and dump the trash. After he was done. The trash bin fell over. I waited and watched as the truck went up the street. The driver never got out to take my boxes, nor did he pick up the trash bin that was now laying in the street. Totally unacceptable. I then called their customer service and was told to go pick up the trash bin and that me not receiving the stickers for my overflow trash was not her fault. So I'm done. I really liked this company in the beginning, but the lack of respect and good customer service is sending me back to my old company that was a little more expensive, but the employees were always very polite.
