Maureen is absolutely exceptional -- we could not have found a better designer for our renovation…read more We worked with her on two bathrooms (guest and primary) as well as our primary bedroom, with all construction happening while we were away traveling, and the experience could not have been smoother. We loved partnering with Maureen on the design. She made the entire process feel seamless and stress-free, helping us bring our vision to life while elevating it in ways we couldn't have done on our own. For every decision, whether it was shower tiles or cabinetry wood, she presented us with a thoughtfully curated set of options, saving us from hours of researching online and in-store. She also provided invaluable guidance on where to invest and where to be more cost-efficient, all without ever compromising on quality. I also cannot emphasize enough how incredible Maureen's eye for design is along with her ability to tailor her recommendations and the design to your personal style and goals. During the renovation, we were traveling internationally and so Maureen managed the overall project, sharing regular updates and photos. We're incredibly grateful we trusted Maureen with our home and are thrilled (though not surprised) that the end result was perfect and exceeded all expectations. We recommend her without hesitation and would absolutely work with her again.

It's not pure coincidence that Maureen has "Bravo" as a part of her name. This woman is a humble…read moregenius in her craft. I was immediately drawn to her work when I reviewed her portfolio. Often times, designers have the same "look" for multiple projects. Not Maureen - I could tell she chose finishes based on her client's preferences. Our late 1970s home was in dire need of new floors, interior doors, and an updated stair banister. Maureen suggested an initial walkthrough to ensure she would be a good fit. From the moment she showed up, I enjoyed being in her presence. The brief suggestions she made were in line with my ideas, and I knew I had to work with her. Maureen was mindful of our budget. She would always ask my opinion prior to sourcing design choices, even after I communicated that I had full trust in her. It was true collaboration. Maureen consistently stayed on top of timelines and would keep me updated in a timely manner. We enjoyed working with Maureen so much that we decided to add on a master bath remodel. I now get to wake up every morning in the beauty of our new home. I'm certain that this vision would not happen if it weren't for Maureen's talent. For me, having someone design your home isn't just about their skill and creativity, it also includes how they made you feel through the process. It doesn't get any better than working with someone who is honest, trustworthy, reliable, and talented.

If it weren't for Erin, I'm pretty sure I would have just about given up on my home remodel by now…read more I am in the process of completely revamping a one-story 3 bedroom house. While I have always loved looking at home design stores and shopping for cool vintage pieces, I've never been able to tie entire spaces together in a cohesive way and thought hiring a designer would make sense. The thing I soon realized after talking to multiple design firms is that most of them only seem to care about two things: 1) your design budget and 2) your willingness to let them control construction work. And here's the thing, I get it. If I were an interior designer, I'd want someone to give me $10,000+ just for design and all the keys to the kingdom. It'd be easier for me. But I am not. I am just your average thirty-something who is finally establishing their first real entire house of their own, does not have an endless design budget, and actually wants to be actively involved in the process of remodeling. I wanted someone who I could bring a bunch of ideas to and guide me on what fits together and what doesn't, and teach me how to make a place feel like a beautifully tailored home as opposed to a hodgepodge of stuff that looks cool. Someone who could help keep me on track, troubleshoot problems, and weigh in on decisions. Enter Erin. Erin is like that one really kind and patient friend you always go to when you need someone to honestly and thoughtfully tell you what is gonna look good or not look good on you, or in this case, your home. She will never make you feel inferior for how much you are able to spend, or dumb for suggesting certain ideas. She is just gonna calmly talk you through figuring out all the thousands of small and large decisions that come along with a remodel so it's not quite so daunting and overwhelming. It is truly so much easier and so much more fun to have her on your team. She is currently based in Brooklyn and we are able to get a ton of work done through weekly virtual meetings. She offers different design hour packages that are flexible enough to meet whatever needs, budget, and degree of desire to be actively involved in the process you may have. I am using her for everything from interior design to exterior paint colors to weighing in on landscaping. So, please do not book up all her hours because I plan on using a lot of them. Once we finish each phase of the remodel, I'll update this review with pictures of the before and after.

So I needed guidance to pick a trim color for my house (exterior). At first I meant to reuse the…read moreold colors but in the middle of the repainting process, it occurred to me that I'd pick a different trim color instead of staying with the old boring one. Wanting to save myself from some headache and many trips to the paint store, that's how 180 color came to my rescue. The first contact was about a minimum of 5 hrs for any work. Kathyjean made sure I understood that condition and she wouldn't go out of the meeting without a check in hands. Ok, understandable! She did make me a favor to charge me only 4 hrs minimum since what I needed from her was pretty simple. The 2 hrs meeting was professional and helpful. She helped me decide on the trim color and all of a sudden, I thought of adding an accent color, this took us about 15 min more but we were still in the time frame she allocated to me (2 hours) I was told I could use the leftover time for any advice, which I did wholeheartedly. After deciding on the colors, came the decisions about what color goes where. Kathyjean took some photos, asked me if I wanted drawings of color distribution. Yes I did want them (what's the point to have professional advice for the colors without knowing where to put them?) and yes I thought it'd take an hour or so and I'd still be within my time frame of 4 hrs I've already paid for. I'm no specialist of software or apps but I'm sure they exist in the market like coloring books. Instead, Kathyjean spent 3 hrs 1/2 (yes 210 minutes) at a designer rate, to put down 11 photos of different parts of my house with arrows pointing out where each color goes and comments that only people in the trade would understand (in-lays for a door or sashes for windows for ex) This wasted time of 3 hrs1/2 could have been avoided had Kathyjean put the client's interest first. She should have asked me to take notes with my basic drawings (note that my house is no Victorian with complicated convolutions, it's just a trim around doors and windows, and an accent color here or there), she'd have saved me the extra 1 hr 1/2 (since the 2 hrs were already paid for by her minimum charge) and save herself 1 to 2 hours of work. Frankly, when you think about it, 3 and a half hours at premium designer rate for instructions on 11 photos of door frames and windows? Plus, they are of little use for my handy guy who just needs a finished coloring book. I sincerely think this type of work could be done by Kathyjean within an hour-had she have the right tools or by a student helper working at $25/ hr, not the 5 times rate I was charged. Another thing is with her photos and distribution colors, there are many parts missing, I had to draw them, take a picture and sent them for questions and confirmation. Later a conversation with Kathyjean about her charges, i understood the reasons of her billing, saying usually her clients can't get away with 2 colors while paying so little. So what? If I've done my homework and am quick to decide, all savings would be mine. Actually to that day, i haven't tried yet those 2 colors on my walls (due to unexpected sickness) to see if I'm really happy with them. Never in our emails back and forth, Kathyjean has asked me how happy I was with our choice together, or if I needed further help. So where is the follow-up customer service? To sum up the review: As a color consultant: maybe 4-5 stars, but wait until I put the paints on, she seems to be knowledgeable. But beware of how she bills though, reminding me of lawyers turning on the timer when you start talking to them then later sending you an invoice charging you every minute spent with you. I've been in business for my whole life (now retired), I've always put my client's interest first and thought every business people would share the same ethics.

Kanika is an extremely talented designer, and I can't recommend her enough!…read more We bought a house in March 2020 - signed the contract days before covid stay at home orders. My husband and I then spent two years working from home together in our front room (we call it the study now) without any rhyme or reason, just putting our desks wherever they fit, because it all happened so quickly. It was awkward and ugly, cords and monitors everywhere, and not a great look for people walking in our front door. The whole time, I was thinking, "when this is done and at least one of us goes back to the office, I want to make this room into a nice space to read and relax, and also to WFH when I have to." That's where Kanika comes in. I tried changing the place up on my own, but every choice I made seemed to make my space uglier and more awkward. It was time to hire a professional. That decision was worth every penny. In the end, my project turned out to be slightly bigger than just one room. I enlisted Kanika's help in choosing flooring, baseboards and paint for the whole house, furniture for my entire downstairs (we were still using the old living room furniture left by the previous owners), and light fixtures throughout. She was easy to work with and understood immediately what I was going for. My study is a real showstopper now - the walls are this deep blue color that looks amazing, she designed a gorgeous custom bookshelf that makes perfect use of the space, and she picked a couch that is the perfect size, just the right color, and so comfortable. And we still managed to get a desk in there for those WFH days. Literally just the other day, I was on a Zoom with someone and thought "this room behind me is so pretty, it looks like a fake background." But it's real, and in my house! And it wouldn't have happened without Kanika. The paint color she helped me pick for my bedroom is something I never would have chosen on my own, but I still regularly think about how nice it looks whenever I go in there. Same with the color of the living room couch, I'd never have found it on my own, but now that I have it, I love it. She knows her stuff. Kanika's husband Adi runs the business side of things. He managed the project, hiring contractors and keeping everything on schedule. The work was done on time, and he kept us in the loop, patiently answering any concerns or questions. And, no shenanigans with the final cost. Really, hiring Kanika Design was a great decision for us.
