Location: Right across the Prinzregententheater Ambience: Unassuming entrance but beautiful earthy interiors punctuated by traditional Indian paintings, upholstery, and rich splashes of red. There are private seating spaces as well, and a large aquarium graces one of the seating areas. Food: Seven cooks from India are responsible for the exquisite creations that make it to your plate at Swagat. The cuisine is predominantly North Indian, with emphasis on delicacies from the tandoor. Recommendations: Vegetarian thali, dessert thali, tandoori paneer and mushrooms, guava liqueur, firni, kulfi, palak paneer, chana masala, garlic naan Service: Ravneet, the proprietor, is polite and gracious to a fault, and ever-willing to greet the guests, although there are so many of them. Indian food takes its own time to reach a state of delicious perfection but even so, the order doesn't take all that long to reach the table. Cost: Expensive but worth every cent.

The best meal we had while in Munich!…read more We came in for a late lunch, and there weren't very many people. The service was fast and friendly, and I really like the colorful decor. We ordered dal soup, samosa, and chicken korma. I also got a sweet lassi to drink. Having been to India, I have a high bar for what I consider good Indian food, and Sangeet has amazing food. Everything was fresh and delicious. I'm so sad that we're leaving Munich and won't be able to come back. If you don't stop by Sangeet for a meal, you are missing out.

Now for the good stuff: We'd reserved for a large group (15+ on a Tuesday evening) and the place was otherwise relatively quiet. Service was attentive & warmed up to an actually friendly level after chatting in Urdu and Hindi with some of our party. We showed up at 8 & kept them busy until about 10:30, which alone can cause some staff to get surly - but our servers were polite and patient until the end; they teased us about our inability to handle hot spices, brought complementary papadam for the whole group, and even handed out Chupa Chups when we paid at the end. The best part of the night for me was their willingness to prepare prawn korma, although only chicken korma was officially on the menu. They charged the same as for all their prawn curries, and it was absolutely excellent. The prawns were huge, meaty, and flavorful - almost like lobster. I actually couldn't quite conquer the dish, either, although it seemed small-ish at first impression. Despite its price, it was worth it. Plenty of basmati rice was brought out on platters for us to share, and I think everyone had enough of everything; not always easy at such a huge table. My mango lassi was small (0,2L) but heavenly. My plain nan was fluffy and large. I would definitely return & recommend, but with the expectation that it's going to be a bit spendy.

This food is amazing!! Simply the best Indian food in Munich!…read more____________ Update, 1 year later I have been out of the city for a year, and since then I have been to Indian restaurants in New York, San Francisco, Paris and other cities. Also have learned to cook Indian food (buying many books and experimenting). My wife and I always search for the best Indian in the city when we travel, and when we came back to Ganga, our minds were blown... again. First of all, we are Vegan and were Vegetarian when we first found out about Ganga, so our experiences are without any meat dishes. We tend to notice subtleties in our food as we are both cook ourselves and can pick apart flavors to recreate dishes. Ganga has again come through with some amazing dishes. The thing that sets Ganga apart from other Indian restaurants is that the food just tastes fresh. You can discern individual ingredients in the food. The colors are bright and the curry dishes aren't over cooked. The curry base isn't thick and bland like it is at other restaurants. Each dish has a UNIQUE flavor, instead of everything tasting similar. The spices are strong and fresh as well. We never leave the place without being absolutely stuffed and happy, that's for sure. As everyone should know, in München, every restaurant is proud of the beer they serve and have logos on the outside just to tell you what they serve. Ganga serves something you don't see too often in Munich, but it is a Bavarian beer, Kulmbacher. Out favorite by far is the Kapuziner Weißbier, and the Kapuziner Weißbier Dunkel. Such smooth, flavorful beers. Nothing is quite like it at all, very, very good. Lastly, the service, is very good. The staff is very friendly and it feels like a family owned operation. At least I know that two of the wait staff are brother and sister. They work quite hard, even when the place is so busy you can't find a seat. They have always been pleasant to us and they speak English well. Or they will even help us practice our German. All in all however, this restaurant is a gem. I feel very lucky to have found it in our travels and will be back every time I am in München.

I love going to asian / Indian places with a small group as you get to try lots of things and sample many different dishes. This was the case tonight :-)) The restaurant is quite cosy and seats about 30 odd people and, it was nice and warm when we stepped in. The menu here is quite extensive with lots of choice for starters, main and of course lots of choice for vegetarians. We decided on some starters to share and they were all quite ok. Nothing really special but tasted fine. The Chilli dip was excellent but the other dips were not so good. For main course we shared a lamb, beef, chicken and vegetarian. The main courses were quite good and I loved the Daal. None of it was spicy however, quite flavourful and, I quite enjoyed it. The roti (called chapati here) was excellent and, it was light and freshly made, and I loved it. For dessert we shared a platter and it was not so good. The Gulab Jamun was great and adding mango was a nice touch but, the ice cream was a bit ordinary. All in all a pleasant experience that I would happily repeat. My stable of good Indian places in Munich continues to grow and, I am glad we tried this place :-)) I would stick to the main course next time and not bother with the rest. Service here is quite friendly and prompt. I would give it an overall 3.5 stars.

The chapati certainly helped soak that up! For around 20€, the quality and quantity of food is worth a visit. While we didn't order desserts, the table next to us did, and they sure looked yummy.

Food - butter chicken - was less impressive unfortunately; it tasted as if some supermarket vegetable bouillon brick was its foundation rather than the rich mix of spices this dish can also have. Naan a little bland, and portion sizes generally on the small side. The Lassi was rich and good. Constant coming and going of food delivery guys who mostly didn't bother to shut the door; almost comical seeing a woman get up every time to close it while the staff didn't care = try to get seated away from the entrance as long as they don't install some closing mechanism.
