My husband has been obsessed with vinyl records since we got a record player, so now we come to record stores whenever we happen upon them. This record store is amazing. They have so many options, with both older and newer sections of most genres. I honestly can see myself buying stuff for him or my parents here. It's February right now, so my mind is on Valentine's Day. If your significant other or crush is into records I would stop here because they have both new and used records, with the used records being as cheap as $3. Whether $40 or $10 is your budget, you can find something fantastic here for a gift or something sweet for yourself. My husband got 2 vinyls while here but he didn't get the Kendrick Lamar record he said he'd been looking everywhere for. Guess what I am looking into getting him for Valentine's? Satellite has loads of vinyl, but as I began looking through it was a bit disappointing. While there is a lot in the store, there's not a lot to choose from. Many of the records here are bands I've never heard of, bargain bins (which aren't terrible, but still not a lot to offer), and the times I saw a name that I did recognize and was interested in buying...they didn't have. Lots of empty slots. They had a few newer records, but in the end didn't find anything that I took home with me. Staff is friendly, parking is ample. Still a great local business. read more

Record stores are a great resource if you love music. Satellite Records has a very nice store and has lots of LPs, CDs and even some cassettes. I found the owner to be friendly and knowledgeable. You could browse their records for hours. read more

This place is awesome! My wife and I were looking for some new records to listen to on a rainy day and decided to hit up satellite records to see if they had anything we'd like... 30 minutes of exploring we had 6 new records for the price of two new records!! You can tell the staff all love and appreciate all forms of music and they are all extremely helpful and kind. I would gladly recommend this place to anyone looking for vinyl both old and new!!! So unorganized and have an awful selection, I will cut it some slack because the guy at the desk was saying he's working on getting the store more organized but it's a trash heap. Staff was rude, vague, and condescending when I tried ordering a record. They offer the service of ordering records, but don't actually do it. So, why should I go to this store and spend my time and money? Personally, I don't see the point. This service style is not acceptable in the internet age since gatekeepers are easily circumvented with a Google/Discogs search in a few seconds. In short, if you want to feel like one of the berated patrons in High Fidelity, this is the store for you, otherwise I'd recommend ordering records online or going to another store in Kalamazoo. read more

Best, most current selection in town. And they give fair payouts if you're trying to sell vinyl. They always seem to have cool events going on, too. I scored a bunch of stuff for insanely cheap during their anniversary sale. Cool live shows and local DJs seem to be happening more often in the shop. Overall: Highly recommended! read more

Prepare to spend the hard-earned money you've been saving up. Satellite Record's selection is astounding, and it always changes. Their classical and jazz selections are especially expansive, but scour through their recent indie or old classic rock records and you'll be impressed with what you might find. I've bought all my favorite records from this store: original pressings by the Rolling Stones, Hendrix, in addition to a few Miles Davis and Modern Jazz Quartet records. They used to be called Corner Records, which was on West Main, and they've since moved to a better location right in the heart of the student neighborhood. They'll helpfully answer any of your music questions--from knowing the producer of a Moody Blues album to recommending audio equipment--they also host shows. Psych-rockers Oneida stopped in to play a set, but the venue also serves as a platform for locals as well as out-of-towners. Satellite Records is next door to Fourth Coast Cafe and a Bagel Beanery. So, if you're ever bored during a Kalamazoo afternoon, go grab a coffee, buy a used book down the street (be sure to haggle!), and listen to some records. read more

Just like everything else in downtown Kzoo, Satelitte is old and adorable. This place is a typical college town record store. There's a large selection of older vinyl at very good prices and a smaller selection of newer titles at run-of-the-mill prices. If you're coming here to find more popular older titles, you might be out of luck. While Satellite certainly stocks selections from well known artists, those better known titles still seem to be missing. Nonetheless, there are some great finds here. The prices are very good too. Sure, this place is in the middle of Michigan and the competition isn't fierce for record stores, I frequent many and was surprised by the low prices of both the new and used titles. As mentioned previously, Satellite does carry some newer titles but this isn't their forte. If new records are exclusively what you're looking for, this place may be a disappointment. And the vibes. I no longer live in Kalamazoo but I used to live down the street from this record store. I loved how close it was and went in somewhat frequently. I swear to god they had albums by all of the bands I loved.... but they never seemed to have the particular albums I liked. I prefer Greenlight in Kalamazoo because I think their selection and prices are better. It seemed like most of the albums are bargain bin or super collectible vinyl (100+ dollars). Exactly what you want from a record shop: knowledgeable (without being snobby) employees, and an excellent selection to dig through. One of the things that makes smaller-town record shopping great is that it's just not as picked through, like places in Chicago might be. Follow them on Facebook to get occasional updates of new-used arrivals and if you can't make it in right away to pick something up that you just plain must have, they'll hold it for you! A neat and tidy store - well organized with sizable selections of all genres. I didn't leave with anything though. Mostly common stuff and whatever I did find interesting was overpriced. The dollar section is basically trash. I found a couple but either it was the wrong record inside or it was beyond playable condition. Either these guys don't get good stuff coming into the the store, or they save the goodies for ebay / discogs. I was disappointed after walking a mile in 30 degree weather. read more
