I was very impressed with Blue Door Painting. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. The only reason I…read moream not giving 5 stars is that the paint could have been scraped a little better off the windows. That's really nit-picky, but in my book, you have to be perfect for 5 stars. I called Blue Door because we had chipping lead paint on two windows in what is to become my son's room. Anna at the office was able to do an estimate over email (I sent pictures) within 24 hours. Anna was knowledgeable, polite and efficient. Then, they were able to schedule the work for the next business day. In order to facilitate quick turn around, I went to their office in N. Arlington, which is conveniently located, to sign the paperwork. The morning of the work a lady came with the painter to translate instructions and help him get set up. He fixed our busted window, removed the chipping paint and painted all the rest of our trim with three coats. He did all the work using the EPA lead paint certification guidelines (he had to seal everything up and clean up really well.) The work was done well and the windows look better than I even expected. It was totally worth the money not to have to deal with our lead paint issue myself. Anna called afterwards to make sure everything was done to my liking. This was a small job and I plan to use Blue Door again. I'll re-post afterwards.

They took the time to evaluate the place and ask lots of questions about my goal with painting the place, the sort of paint I wanted, etc. I had a quote the next morning, and we moved forward with the project Saturday. My spot is a an old 505 sq ft studio in DuPont, and they were able to complete the project in a day. The previous owner of my spot hadn't taken care of the place very well, so the paint was chipping and cracking all over the place. They stripped the previous paint, sanded, prepped the walls, and even used a specific type of primer near my AC unit to minimize water damage on the paint. The place looks fresh and clean, which is exactly what I wanted. The quote was around $100 less than the lowest estimate I got elsewhere, and the work was both quick and pristine. I would recommend them to others in the DMV.

A con man of the highest order!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!…read moreHis recommendations which I naively agreed to ,proved not only to be not only outrageously overpriced, but more importantly completely superfluous and resulted in me ultimately having to hire someone else remove what he installed AND repair what damaged he caused and then begin the initial project from the start!! One example:His estimate for tightening a kitchen cabinet ran into thousands of dollars!! He came up with some convoluted explanation about the wall of the cabinet needing to be rebuilt, the dishwasher needing to be removed, the wall next to it needing to be totally rebuilt ,the adjacent door also needing to be taken off, then needing to repaint the doors .....and on and on. Another workman showed me that the screw just needed tightening and refused to even charge me for such a ridiculously small 'repair'! He guaranteed his work for a year. The tile work he did on one tub has resulted in puddling on the floor every time the shower is used. It's been 3 months since he was paid in full for ALL of his work. Two weeks ago I contacted him to fix the puddling problem. No response ! Since my call to him the puddling is only one of a number of things that that he worked on that isn't working properly! His "WARRENTEE " isn't worth much since he doesn't respond even 3 months into the first yr! Must of been his wife or mother who wrote the favorable review before mine. I give him, his work and his word zero stars!

Not only was Oded prompt, honest, transparent, and fair, his work was simply superb. He goes the extra mile to ensure that things are done right the first time. We had him install new light fixtures, cabinetry, baby proofing toilet latches, replace a garbage disposal unit and even assemble and install a custom walk in closet storage system. The custom closet system was not originally in his area of expertise and Oded was frank and honest about it. He could've fooled me because it turned out beautifully. His scrupulous attention to detail and patience are hallmarks of a genuine professional. His price isn't cheap, but it's not expensive either. For the work he does, he expects to and should be fairly compensated. If you want to roll the dice with other handymen, be my guest. I trust and intend on calling Oded back for continued home maintenance to ensure my family's most valued asset is properly maintained.

During this improvement, we were plagued with rain which hindered the time line to complete the job. I had gotten three price quotes from different painters, and this painter agreed to match the lowest quote that I received. We did have some communication delays during the quote process. In addition, I was not told which brand or color of paint would be used until the last minute. I just happened to have a color swatch for the brand of paint that this painter would use, so I was able to select the color that I wanted, although I did not have time to test it on my walls first. Nonetheless, the paint job of the walls, trim, and ceilings ended up looking good. My husband, in-laws, and realtor complimented the painter on the paint job. One reason why I chose this business for the painting was because it is a husband-and-wife team, with the husband doing the painting and the wife doing the cleaning. If there was a delay with the painting, it would be easier to coordinate the scheduling of the cleaning. After the painting was done, the wife cleaned the entire house. I would recommend this business for a reasonably priced and high-quality painting and cleaning job. Just make sure to get all details in the written estimate well before the job starts.
